I had something written out that I thought was too elaborate and revealed a bit too much, so I chucked it for this:

I don't know this as fact, but this is what I have come to believe based on a number of thingies into which I will not fully get. I am such a tease.

I believe it was a combination of motherly rejections: A rejection of the preverbal Brian whilst still within the womb/neonate stage and then a hellacious one at 3.5 years when he was newly verbal, hence forming some of his first conscious memories (although I firmly believe we form memories as early as 28 weeks gestation, they are organized and recalled much differently than our memories starting around verbalization).

I think Brian was one of 25% of the population who was genetically blessed with a highly sensitive nervous system. He most likely required more reassurance and mummy time than other babies, but, like many children of that era, his mother left him in his cot too long. Perhaps his cries were never met with his mother's comfort. This may have very well given him loads of trust issues and a damaged amygdala, which in turn produced the roots of anxiety, low-self esteem and an over-developed flight/fight response. What happened when Pamela died really cemented the rejection on a conscious level.

Of course Louise was damaged. Damaged parents make damaged children unless someone, somewhere, breaks that chain. I decided to do attachment parenting with my kids. Wear and sleep with and breastfeed my babies. I knew that no matter how shitty my other parenting skills got, they would always have that firm beginning, the reassurance that their needs would be met, building the foundation of trust. The very first relationship you have is with your mother. If you fich that up, all other relationships are normally fiched up, too, unless some major reconstruction goes on in your psyche.

My impression of Louise is one of not being a natural, loving mother. In fact, I think she is wound so tight that if you shoved a lump of coal up her arse, you'd have something that rivalled the Star of Africa in less than 10 minutes.
