Its similar to the doubt I get a lot over Rocky Horror. Ive been involved in that for years, as audience, cast member, cast director, and convention organiser. Ive met the stars of the movie. I went to the original stage production in London in 1973, years before it became a cult classic movie. I still get people asking to see my ticket stub to prove I was actually at that play. All I can say in response is "I wasnt aware I was supposed to save it so you could see it." I mean, who knew? The stub probably ended up on the floor under my seat!
The 60s are a strange topic though. My friend who just published the new bio on Syd Barrett ran into a lot of reluctance from people who he wanted to interview. Most simply tried to downplay that they were ever there, citing children, grandchildren, etc. Personally I find that odd. Im proud to have been a part of that time, and lucky to have met so many interesting people. Yeah, my kids think Im an idiot, but in my opinion thats their problem. Im used to embarrassing them! They know I knew the Stones, but arent interested because it wasnt Ozzy or Garth Brooks!
