I can see where you are coming from and see that language is the third word in the phrase "the english language". However, after that you state, "What is the third word". So why isn't "what" the answer. Similar thinking behind it.

Also, the original email I received stated, "There are three words in the English language that end in "gry". Clearly, by the rationale you have used there are no words in "the english language" that end in GRY.

I'd say more an attempt to deceive than a riddle. Too many contradictions. Wouldn't you agree?
