I don't believe what they did to Bud! How can they blow his leg off like that? What a terrible ending! Does anyone believe he will survive?

Disagree, what a great ending. Here you are thinking, "Whew, Harm saves the day. Keeps them all from becoming permanent glow in the dark toys, " and BAMM you get a right cross out of left field. Yes, we all love LT. Roberts but, ya gotta admit, you never saw THAT one coming. Bud will survive, and it will change the show. Who knows, it might be what they use to get Harm and Mac together.

I'm with everyone else - sitting here in total and complete shock. One thought - if there is any actor on JAG that can pull off this beyond major character/life altering change - it is Patrick L. If there is only one thing to look forward to in this storyline is the great acting that will be coming from Patrick. It's going to take the summer to shake off the shock of this episode. WOW.

Shock is an understatement. This is going to create some mojor ramifications next season, but at the same time I think its going to give "Bud" that boost he needs in the show to a more mature, character. I know from watching P.L. from Little House on the Prarie (yes I'm that old :) ) that he is more than capaple of the character change without loosing the loveable, and sensitive side.
I hate to say this but we are still a country at war and unfortunatly war has some very shocking realities. I think DPB has done well to help us keep this in mind...We can't afford to let our guard down now.
Thanks for letting me have my say. God Bless

I think I'm traumatized. I never saw this coming. I think PL deserves an Emmy ÿ

I knew something was going to happen to him because of the way his wife was acting. She was too nervous. I think Bud will be able to stay in and will be much stronger. I think it's fitting for him to lose his leg trying to save a child. It was very tragic though and I was still shocked.

How did Bud get his leg blown up? I saw Harm save the day, and then I had to leave the room for a minute while there was a commercial, and all I saw was Bud laying there with his leg blown up. Can someone tell me how it happened?

How it happened -

Bud and Coates were walking along a dirt path back to the school that had gotten blown up (mentioned in the beginning of the ep); it was being re-opened and they had been invited to the ceremony. They saw a little boy digging in the dirt, off the path and speculated that there were land mines still there. Bud sent Coates to get someone from the village for help, while he tried to stop the boy from digging around (by talking to him and waving his arms and stuff like that). The boy didn't understand him, even threw a rock at Bud, and Bud stepped forward (off the path), going to try to stop the boy from getting into any danger, when he himself stepped on a mine and ended up where you saw him.

Hope that helps!

Bud more than Harm is your typical American serviceman (with kudos to the servicewomen also).

Harm is great of course, but Bud is more real.

He is decent, caring, does his job, and has faults like real people.

He got hurt going to help a child, one that was throwing rocks at him by the way. How representative of the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.

I read it somewhere that the approach of a soldier anywhere else in the world almost always carries dread, brings with it fear. Yet when a soldier, sailor, airman, coastie, or Marine of the United States is seen, it is a completely different reaction. Unless you are an "evil doer", they are the ones that feed, shetler, aid the victims of this world.

And as with anything of value it doesn't come without a price.

The wonderful actor Pat and the show JAG in tonight's episode, I think captured just that.

I'm sooo sorry for Bud!!! I can't believe this! But I thought it was a great episode. I just hope that Bud and Harret get closer through this and that it doens't tear them apart...

[> [> Goodbye, Saint Bud! -- Madoc Owain, 08:26:18 05/22/02 Wed

I'm in shock they are getting rid of Saint Bud! Did Patrick's contract not get renewed, or is he taking time away to work on directing or other projects? Either way, it looks like this will be his last season, as it will be rather difficult for him to remain an active member of the US military with a crippling injury - no matter how unfair that seems. As this show has pointed out before, any member of the Navy may be called upon at any time to pick up a weapon and defend their country, even JAG lawyers. How can they possibly work his character in on a regular basis when he's getting a medical discharge from the Navy??

[> [> [> Pat's renewed through season 8. As for Bud's role in the Navy--he won't be allowed to go back on the carrier, but from what I understand, there's no reason he won't be able to continue practicing law. It will be interesting to see what they come up with. -- Katherine, 14:55:55 05/22/02 Wed

I think Bud earned his promotion!! I look for him to live, be highly decorated, and be promoted to Lt. Com.

[> Yes, I think he will survive---we've been told through sources that this plotline will have an impact throughout next season and perhaps beyond. Bud's death--while traumatic---would not affect the show all the way through next season. -- C, 21:50:37 05/21/02 Tue

I was also completely shocked by the ending. Probably sat there staring at the TV for a good 15 minutes. I would hate to see Bud crippled for the rest of the show. What I was thinking is that Harriet is dreaming this. But that doesn't seem probable because it would be a crappy way to start the season by having Harriet wake up... although then her reaction to the dream could ultimately affect the whole season. Anyway poor Bud as it stands now.

I sure hope Bud lives. He is a favorite.
The JAG ending was awful!!!!!! The sight of Bud lying there just gave me the creeps!
