  Whilst waiting for the show to start, why not come hang out at The BLA? We have a new "Write the Caption" contest (congrats to RC for submitting the winning caption!), a few pics and summaries of the JAGFanFest (more to follow!), a very funny "Hanging Out with Bud" pictorial from Laurel and more!

  Hi Everyone!
  
  Here's an update and another invite to The 1st Annual "JAG Shippers of the South Get-together"! If you're interested in attending, and want to be able to order some of the cool Jag-related items that we're going to offer, you *must* contact us within the next 2 weeks! So, please e-mail me soon : ) (Those who are already SOTS Yahoo Group members, will be seeing a post on the board within the next several days with the details).
  
  If you do not want to order anything, but do want to attend, you have more time. But you should probably book your hotel/flights soon (these bookings are completely up to each individual).
  We wouldn't ever turn anyone away, but we'd really appreciate it if you could let us know at least 3 weeks in advance of your plans to be there, so we will be able to have some personalized items for you at the event, and it will allow us to better prepare.
  
  For those of you who are hearing about this for the 1st time:
  
  We'd love to invite you to come to The 1st Annual "JAG Shippers of the South Get-together". (SOTS= Shippers of the South)
  
  Where? Charleston, South Carolina. The Hospitality Room at The Town
  and Country Inn, on Savannah Hwy. (An awesome hotel with great
  ammenities. Check their site out www.thetownandcountryinn.com
  If you've never been to Charleston, you're in for a real treat.
  It's a breathtaking, historic city with lots of great things to
  do.
  When? Friday & Saturday, October 11th and 12th of this year. The fun
  begins at 5PM on Friday night.
  
  What? Watching & discussing JAG episodes, a shipper tape, getting to
  know other JAG fans, JAG games (& plenty of awesome JAG-related
  prizes), food (half veggie-lovers, half meat-lovers anyone?),
  and other fun stuff. (Look out for some surprise items straight
  from Harriet- JAG's Audience Liason) -And that's just Friday
  night!
  Saturday we'll take a tour of Patriots Point (where we'll
  tour several vessels, including The USS Yorktown Aircraft
  Carrier (which also houses a bunch of aircrafts. Even
  Harm's favorite bird, an F-14 Tomcat). There's even a fighter-
  jet simulator onboard the Yorktown, for those adventurous souls
  with a constitution better than "Mac's" (there is an additional
  fee for this). Then on to a carriage ride tour of Charleston.
  Saturday night, grab a group of your new SOTS friends and hit
  the town, or do your own thing! It's completely up to you.
  
  If possible, plan to come a day early, or stay a day later to
  allow plenty of time to enjoy some of the other things
  Charleston has to offer (there's tons of stuff to choose
  from).
  
  Why? Cause we're nuts about JAG, and want to talk with people who
  don't roll their eyes when we mention our favorite show for
  the thousandth time. LOL! Besides, it's gonna be a blast! The
  real question is, "Why not?!?!?" It's also your chance to get
  cool stuff (some for sale, some as prizes, some for free)!
  
  Who? Wizkid & I (Danari), with help from Alekater, Rina, and
  CharlestonianRomantic, invite you all to attend. You don't even
  have to be from the south, or be an actual shipper (though most
  in attendance probably will be).
  
  Anything Else? Yep. If you think you might attend, please e-mail me
  at your soonest convenience. From there, you will be sent an
  invitation to join the SOTS Yahoo Group. This is where you will
  get more frequent updates re the get-together, and can post
  messages to other people who are coming to the event. Over 30
  people have expressed a strong interest in coming to the JAG
  SOTS Get-together so far, so post a message and get to know
  them. Or ask any questions you may have for the organizers, or
  others who are familiar with the Charleston area. This is also
  where you'll be able to read posts about how to order that JAGgy
  merchandise! There are links in the bookmarks section to the Inn
  and to Patriots Point also. So hurry and join! Don't be
  shy!

  O.K. I am busy house hunting, but had to watch 'Princess and Petty Officer' (as hard as it is to watch). While watching it, it occured to me that the actor who plays Bud is amazing.
  
  I am really "bowled over" by his ability to do comedy and drama so well. I think it is rare, these days, to have actors of such caliber on T.V. Typically, I do not like to talk about actors (real people), because it ruins the fantasy for me; but Bud is a unique character that deserves recognition, and thereby, the actor who brings him to life deserves credit
  
  We've laughed and cried with, and for, Bud, and I am grateful to have a character on the small sceene that we can sink out teeth into....
  
  D0 you agree? As much as I like all of the the other character (with one exception), Bud is the one can sink one's teeth into!

• Bud's Injury and its ramifications... -- Anne, 19:09:27 05/29/02 Wed
  After going through the different emotions, (shock, sadness, anger...) and thinking about it long and hard, I've come to the conclusion that this is the best thing to happen to this show in a long time. Don't get me wrong, I love Bud just as much as you all do and wish TPTB would be kinder. But this just nails another personal hole in the ground for me and it's a good thing for many reasons. I like JAG so much, not just for good-looking PL & DJE and the dog fighting, but for the way that I can sort of relate to each of the charactors in a different way. I never could really relate to Bud as much as the others until now (I am physically challenged). And what's more, the concept of a show where a physically challenged person is introduced is pretty much nonexsistant. Finally DPB has a story line that is more in tune with today. Bud is a hero and DPB is showing a side of society that is rarely shown in the entertainment world. I'm sorry but trying to mix romance between H&M and the way they are going about it (just lousy), and the cat fighting between Harriet and Singer, is not the way to get good ratings. I cannot wait until September 24, 2002 to see how DPB takes this new story line. I hope he really gets it all out in the open. =)

  Yes I have come out of lurkdom once again, but this time permanetely due to Shirley closing the Full Review site down. Due to her closing her site down, I have decided to continue with her original idea and open my own Fan Review site which I have named JAG Review. I have been working non stop on this since yesterday, the design of the site is now finished, just got to work on the reviews now. I know Shirleys shoes are a tuff shoe to fit but I will try my best to continue what she started.

  It's that time again! A reminder about an event that you won't want to miss!
  
  Q. Where can you go to meet other JAG shippers, watch and discuss JAG episodes & shipper tapes, play JAGgerific games (for prizes), tour Patriots Point (on foot) & historic Charleston, SC (by horse-drawn carriage), and get some cool JAG-related merchandise available only to those who attend?!?!?
  
  A. The 1st Annual "Shippers of the South" JAG Get-together!
  
  Where? Charleston, South Carolina. (The inn for the get-together has
  been chosen, and great room rates are available too.)
  When? The weekend of October 12th. (We are in the process of
  choosing which 2 days of that weekend right now.)
  Why? Cause we're nuts about JAG and want to talk with people who
  don't roll their eyes when we mention our favorite show for the
  thousandth time. And we want to be able to do all the fun
  things already mentioned in this post. Oh, and the other great
  things to do & see in beautiful Charleston aren't shabby either!

  Where do you see Bu/PL/TPTB taking next season. Will PL get some serious acting chops, ie: angst, pain, career problems, heatbreak, divorce, suicide, etc. Or will TPTB rev up H/M & let Bud's story slide, with a few, gratuitous scenes showing him coping?
  How do you want it to go?
  One part of me roots for simple coping(we've seen loads of real life tragedy lately), while the drama queen in me, wants Bud to loss everything,contemplating suicide, and then come back stronger, tougher & more BUD! And massacre Harm in court, over and over, and become JAG's top dog! He wins Mac's, having lost Harriet to Harm, and shows her how a real man loves a woman!

I would like to see PL carry a performance similar to that in Miracles when he yelled at the priest outside Court regarding miracles and the death of Baby Sarah.   • Hi Emily--okay Bud got his jaw broken in "Boomerang II". Harm and Mic were opposing lawyers. Leaving the courthouse there was a scuffle beginning w/ reporters. But, since Harm and Mic had kind of been trying to show each other up, they started to get involved. They both swung--and to head off disaster, Bud stepped between them--taking one punch on either side of his jaw. And in Boomerrang I Bud was put on the phone, he thought it was Gunny, but it was Harriet, and he made a comment about the topless beach. I believe he said he "hadn't seen this many naked breasts since...." "Since WHEN Bud?!?!" So Harriet was a bit jealous about that. The Admiral straightened her out. (NT) -- C, 19:31:22 06/24/02 Mon

  Hi. I've been lurking every now and then from the Harmyboard, but wanted to share this with you.
  
  JAG Full Review (http://www.pottawatomi.com/fullreview) was a site where next-door JAGnicks submitted weekly their reviews about JAG, either current eps on CBS or USA reruns. Shippers and non-shippers were welcome, and it was a site for everyone. Shirley Dickson, the webmistress, posted a comment-like essay on why she didn't watch JAG anymore. Then, apparently she received offensive messages from some flamers and bashers. Apparently, those persons told her that she couldn't criticize the show, not even in her own site. Hello, we live on a democracy, last time I checked! Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion!
  
  The beauty of JAGdom is the variety of opinions. Shippers, non-shippers, Meg supporters, Kate Pike supporters, hey! Variety is the spice of life! I haven't met a single shipper throwing mud to non-shippers, and vice-versa. Respect is the key! For example, I don't like certain character, but I don't insult a fellow poster who does. She has her reasons as well as I have mine.
  
  The JAG Full Review's site has been closed. By what I read in her farewell message, she seems very upset for those chicken-brain posters who demostrated they're not JAGnicks, just hard-core, one-mind-track fanatics. I can understand her feelings, but I disagree with one thing she said- that her site won't be missed. If you liked her site, email her in support. Her address in still on the page. Real JAGnicks are not flamers and bashers.

  • On JAG, Bud has been married to Harriet since the end of S3. They have a baby son, Little AJ, who was born at the end of S4. Harriet became pregnant again in S5, & she & Bud were going to have a little girl, whom they were going to name Sarah, after Mac. Baby Sarah died at Childbirth, in S6's Princess & Petty Officer. PL (Bud) was terrific in the emotional, gut wrenching scene where he tells AJ of Baby Sarah's death. He was injured as a result of stepping on a landmine in Afghanistan. Bud was sent to the Seahawk as the JAG near the end of S7, & was injured in the line of duty. In RL, PL is married, & he & his wife had their first child, a baby boy, last July.   Okay, I bet it's been discussed to death other places, but does anyone else think that it really wasn't fair that Harriet and Bud lost baby Sarah? I think that was really really really sad. Every time I watch those S6 eps I cry. I think that TPTB is evil trying to make us sad like that. I can't imagine how Bud and Harriet must have felt! (Goodness I am talking about this like JAG is real life.) What do you guys think? Just trying to get SOMETHING started around here. Since we are done with the RR and all.

  Some people here and at other JAG sites have commented on how it is "unfair" that this happened to Bud.
  
  I think this is a very good storyline.
  
  Bud more than Harm represents the truly typical American serviceman (a tip of the hat to the brave service women).
  Where Harm has now earned apparently his 3rd D.F.C. or possibly even the Medal of Honor, Bud just does his job in a professional if not showy way.
  
  Bud is a little bit goofy (the way most people are), and this season was even caught checking out the well laid out body of his legalman (a truly misnomer for this Petty Officer).
  
  Bud however is also the guy that works hard, is loyal to his friends, isn't a backstabber, and stands by the law which he believes in.
  
  He lost his leg while trying to help a kid that was chucking rocks at him. Tell me that isn't symbolic of America's foreign policy.
  
  So now that Bud has been hurt, no strike that, maimed for life, the audience is reminded of what war truly is.
  
  I was a little disappointed in the scene where Harm and Mac just seemed to breeze through their encounter with a mine field. It seemed to make them out to be more troublesome than deadly. I see now that the writers and the director were just sitting us up cleverly for the fall.
  
  The shot of Bud, a character that we have known for years, have learned to care about, laying with a bloody stump, his life's blood pouring out was a terrible shot.
  
  It was also a terrible shot that people need to see. No war, no matter how important, and this one is, is without cost. There are a lot of "Buds" who pay this price.
  
  I find it right that I got a chance to right this on their day, Memorial Day.

  • I agree with you Tim--this is an excellent storyline. It's not some pretty plot they're adding as an undercurrent to buoy the sometimes boring lawyer work. I think it will be dealt with fairly and well--at least I hope so. And yes, we were set up for the fall w/ that scene of Harm and Mac. Although horrid, the story of Bud is one that reminds us of what many people deal with daily---whether living in an area with minefields, or of men and women in service.   Does anyone know if Admiral Boone, formerly the CAG, will be coming back on the show...he was one of my favorite characters, especially when he was testifying in Dog Robbers (2)...I come from a military family and his performance was so realistic it reminded me of my late grandfather...
  Also,I was so surprised to see the ending of this season...but have a feeling they are going to put more depth to Bud's character...the goofy, but always dependable Bud may have departed forever and in its place we're liable to see a stronger and more commanding figure...either that, or they could turn him into an embittered person...All the characters on the show are most always upbeat, and perhaps a little contrast would be interesting..
  This is my first posting..just found your website..and enjoy reading the great comments...

  Well , I must say that I was shocked at what I saw.
  I will be honest here , I was very angry at what DPB did that night as the cliffhanger. Yes I was like everyone else and was looking for something Harm and Mac ish. But Got Bud getting instead. What a surprise.
  
  I was distraught after seeing what I saw. Feeling totally different about the way DPB portrayed the end. Yes I understand that he is trying to show War, but didn't think he would go that far. Not at least with Bud.
  
  The Chat room was loaded that night . Was good to see so many people. It was fun looking at the different time zones and awaiting the barage of viewers from each zone to tell us their thoughts. Was fun and glad to be part of it.
  
  I have had a chance to calm down so to speak from this and hope for the following: That Bud and Harriet come even closer now as Husband and Wife . Also as parents too. I do not think that the two will seperate. Yes there will be tough times but I guess that is part of a relationship and for them to work it out.
  
  Of course we should have Harm and Mac getting closer as well. Seeing what has happened is possibly a "wake up " call to both of them. Hec , it could have been anyone of them in the past few episodes , but it ended up being someone they care for and mentored most of their time together.
  
  Of course there is the guilt factor here.
  1) AJ. He was the one who suggested that Bud take this as a form of getting a promotion. I am not blaming the Admiral in any way. But what I am saying is that possibly in some way HE could feel guilty about him pushing for this and knowing where it has gotten Bud now.
  
  2) Harriet. She too will feel guilty about this cause she wanted to see Bud excell in his duties. Yes at first she didn't but , in the end she did agree. I do not think she will hold a grudge against AJ for this decision. Knowing what has happened now.
  
  3) Bud. Now some of you might think ... why Bud?
  Bud as we can see Loves children. He would do anything to help them . It's natural, he's a father and a human being.
  It's also Bud being Bud. Helpful , yet anxious and the way they make him to be portrayed. Of course there will be the " What if's" from Bud as he thinks about this for many times to come.
  
  4) Harm and Mac. They will feel something too cause of all their encounters with mines recently . I just hope everyone doesn't get depressed over this . et.al. AJ, Harriet, Harm & Mac, ....
  
  I thought the scenes of Harn Flying and distracting the missile were superb. I liked the one scens as they flew past the bridge and the scene as Harm took Lead.
  Loved the sleeping scene of Mac in the humvee. Kind of reminded me of some of the fan fics read here and there of "Harm looking at her as she sleeps" I guess CB does portray a " Beautiful Sleeper" Maybe she could do another re-make of Sleeping Beauty. Hmmm , now who could be the Prince?......
  
  Well all in all I have to say I liked this season 7. It has SPECIAL meaning for me. (Jennifer, you know) Glad to see 2 characters gone. Not saying that they were bad actors but, they were just not needed in the story lines.
  Here's hoping that Season 8 will bring us what we have strived to see all these years. Harm and Mac becoming a God's honest couple.
  It's been fun this season. Hope we have a fun off season with CB doing God knows what, and that it's all safe and fun for her. Also the other actors too.

He conveyed the in shock part of it but also Bud's sweet basic personality-- he was still concerned about the little boy. It will take some dramatic acting talent to pull off the recovery .   I know he is on next season's roster, but he could die & he then would be seen in flashbacks. I hope not. I hope TPTB realize what a gem of an actor PL is, and allow us to see him deal with the ramifications of the loss of his leg, and possibly, his career with JAG. That is high drama. Maybe highlight the understaffed Vet. hospitals/clinics out there. I know that, realistically, his chances are slim, but the've toyed with other medical "recoveries" before. Teflon Harm keeps coming back....and back, and back & they still let him fly, too!

  I think the season ending shocker is going to involve Bud. Bud is going to reach his boiling point in the finale, and he's going to do something that we consider un-Bud like.
  
  Maybe Bud will get to be the hero? That would be a nice change instead of Harm as usual, but since Bud is aboard the ship, maybe the ship is attacked and Bud's involved in the rescue.
  
  I certainly hope TPTB don't shock us by doing something bad to Bud, where his boiling point results in him doing something revengeful or mean.
  
  We know the stuff with Harriet has to come to head, her buying the house, him not telling her about PO Coates, the case with Singer, Harriet possibly being pregnant, maybe its too much for poor Bud, and he does crack. I certainly hope not, but it seems no one is immune from being trashed. Sigh...
  
  It will be a cliffhanger, but the cliffhanger & shocker I think will belong to Bud, and the continuing of the cliffhanger in S8 will be Bud and Harriet, not the War on Terrorism, or even Harm & Mac.

He gives the officers a quizzical look, not because they are holding an arch for him, but because all of a sudden they have pool noodles in their hands--florescent ones. The prop manager had forgotten to replace the surfing and water props with proper swords.   • Everyone freezes, stares at Bud with the oddest looks he's ever gotten in his life--including times when he was ranting about aliens and UFOs while eating Powernuts. The Admiral barks, "Roberts, get your six in my office pronto. Do I need to summon pychiatric help? Who in the world are Luoodles and Maeve!?" Bud looks around and notices that everyone suddenly seems extremely busy getting props put away or fiddling with papers on their desk. "Sir..." Bud still looks confused, "What exactly is going on here? I came in and there was this arch? And why is Jingo here?" He hastily adds, "Sir." (NT) -- C, 20:45:42 08/20/01 Mon
    • Bud makes a plea to the Admiral. Meanwhile, AJ holds a handkerchief to his nose, and everyone else rushes away. Mac rushes in still in a towel, calling "bad doggie." Mic is right behind looking ill. Carries a paper bag. Bud tries to explain his confusion to the Admiral. Sings :"I'm an efficient naval lawyer, A boon to my employer, But it's a zoo around here. She knocked into a straggling prop officer and a surfboard fell to the ground. Bud, in the office, has finally put the phone back to his ear. "Uhhh, sir?" On the other end he heard, "click."     • Bud's gaze swept around the office, he was all alone... Then he heard it. Mystifyingly faint, but nevertheless compelling - where was it coming from? He began a slow circuit of the office, listening intently. There... he was getting closer. What could it be? He had to know! Closer... closer... it was getting louder, clearer. Could it be the Admiral's computer? Cautiously, Bud slipped around to the front of the screen, hardly daring to breathe. The program Tiner had installed to search for alien communications was up and running. And there were words... "The Nav-vy is the place to be! Sea-faring is the life for me! Watch that ocean stretching far and wide. Keep your civvies, I'm out with the mornin' tide!" Suddenly, the office door slammed open and there stood Harm, spatula-marked and defiant...   • "Lt Roberts!" Bud looked up startled. He quickly clicked the "hide screen" icon in the bottom left toolbard. "Uh, yes sir?" he stannered. "You need to get your wife under control!" Harm thundered. "I don't know what you said to her, but when I asked her if you were still in the office, she whacked me wtih THIS!" Harm help up the offending spatula. "She's upset about something and I suggest you go and take care of it!" "Um...sir...I would love to, but...." "But WHAT Lt! She hit me with a kitchen utensil!" "Okay, sir, just one moment." "Not, 'just one moment.' NOW!" Bud reluctantly tore his gaze from the blank computer screen. All he could see was the Admiral's normal background. Who knew the Admiral had a thing for The Muppets? Bud walked around the desk slowly toward the door. He wanted to find out more about the alien search program. He would just have to hope the Admiral didn't know about the "hide screen" icon and that it would stay hidden until he could return. (NT) -- C, 06:27:27 08/31/01 Fri

"Oui, mon cher," she replied, "You were looking for moi?" The hairs on the back of Bud's neck rose. Why did her voice sound funny? Why was she using French words? Why...   • It was Harm's turn to shudder, as he walked into the kitchen to find Bud singing to his reflection in the coffee pot. He needed coffee desparately, or he would have walked out. Harm reached over Bud's shoulder and snagged the pot. He quickly poured a cup of the less than warm brew and gulped it down with a grimace. "What is with people today?" he muttered as he left. Bud, humming to himself, hardly noticed Harm's entry and departure and turned back towards Harriet. He had been imagining her affection towards him, and now he tried to reach out to repair the rift that had begun in the fabric of their marriage. As he walked along the outisde edge of the bullpen he noticed the group around the Admiral had been reduced to only him and Tiner. Tiner was consoling the Admiral with some ancient Zen philosophies.   After much discussion and much interest from the fans, we are pleased to announce that there will be a JAGFanFest 2002.
  
  
  Kick off JAG's 8th season with fellow fans on Friday and Saturday nights, September 13-14, 2002, at the Airtel Plaza Hotel and Convention Center in Van Nuys, California.
  
  
  We are still working out all the details, but we wanted to let you know the dates as soon as possible, so you could make plans to join us. We do know that once again we will be raising money for the American Red Cross and the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society in honor of the cast and crew of JAG.
  
  
  We do know that the charity auction will be Saturday evening. We do know that we have a lot of great ideas we're exploring to bring you a fun-filled event. So watch the lists and our website for more details.

  Can not believe that look at Harm and Singer in the court room, and how about "You were first chair." I kind of bothered me, but Bud did ask Harm to take special care in his questioning. Harm knows how Singer can be, so why did he not stop her sooner, or know to question Sims himself?

  • I don't know cava--I hope that we get to see more character depth in Bud this season, but then TPTB have him doing stupid stuff--although I guess so far that has been more in regard to his cases, and not previous budhaps behavior. I don't know that Harm should have known about Singer. Yeah, he suspects her of being sneaky--but they had talked about the case, and there was no reason to suspect that she was going to go into attack mode for the cross.   Yesterday, in the throws of a number 5 migraine, I asked you all to explain what made Bud interesting enough to excite particular fervour. I said I just didn't get it, and I was genuinely puzzled. After reading all your responses, and inserting my own thoughts into the mix, I realised that what I had wrong was the question itself.
  
  Almost without exception, you each said that you liked Bud because he was an admirable man, a "normal" human being with a kind heart and an endearing manner. And that is where I was entirely wrong. It doesn't matter one bit if a character is not over the top fascinating. The fact that the character (in this case Bud) gives so much pleasure, and adds to the warmth of human interaction, makes him crucial to the balance of the show. He is the sidekick but also the mirror of conscience, the yardstick by which to measure the life that other characters ultimately aspire to. The general contententment of the mature and responsible adult.
  
  I was wrong to try to separate Bud the character from PL the actor. The actors, all of them, lend their bodies to their characters, and through their protean abilities, make the characters individuals who can not be played by just any other good actor. (Yes Michelle, you were right again.) The fact that so many of us confuse Mic and Renee with the actors who play them is a mark of their good acting. They deliberately use the gestures and expressions that make Mic and Renee much less appealing than TG and CA actually are in RL. They lend their bodies to be used for slicked down hair, or overly made up faces. We aren't supposed to like them that much, and the actors use these subtle (and not so subtle) signs to indicate that.
  
  So too with PL and Bud. Without PL there is no Bud, just as with DJE there is no gorgeous doofus. As the Irish poet, W.B. Yeats says:
  O chestnut-tree, great-rooted blossomer, / Are you the leaf, the blossom or the bole? / O body swayed to music, O brightening glance, / How can we know the dancer from the dance?
  
  I said this below but you may have missed it. I was insensitive when I mentioned Bud being upset over the death of his baby. The scene was searingly painful and PL played the emotion very well. I always thought so, but my point about it making him an interesting character was lost, as it should have been.
  
  So thank you for your answers. I have always liked Bud, but now I will look at him in an entirely different light.

  Katherine, I'm sorry for using the BLA, but I'm trying to get the word out to as many fans who are affected by this. The convention has been cancelled, Barb is refusing to refund any of the ticket holders monies citing "Act of War" and she is keeping it. There is a website, where at the bottom is a link "JAGNIK Cancelled" and a complaint form, we fans who bought tickets (I was so stupid to do so) need to UNITE, we may not get anywhere, but Barb needs to realize that she cannot treat us this way.
