I mean he never made up 9 episodes worth of story. He started with an epic story and then he divided it in two when it got too big and then he divided each piece into 3 movies. We are led to believe that Lucas has had rough plotlines of 6 episodes in his notebook since the 70s, but there have never been 9 stories. So I mean both. He never intended to make 9 movies and he never wrote the stories for 9 movies. According to his own public record, he has always hoped to make 6 movies and he has never seriously considered making more.

That said, I seriously wonder if he really HAS had all 6 episodes in his notebook since the seventies. I wonder if he didn't just call Star Wars "Episode 4" in an attempt to give an epic "in medias res" feel. There are a lot of places in the first trilogy where I wonder if he really knew Vader was Luke's father before he wrote "Empire". Things like that. And do you think he thought of making Jango Fett a central character all the way back in the 70s? Not on your life. He did it to please fans because Boba Fett (who was never more than a very minor character) has this weird cult following.

Well that's enough out of me.
