I wouldn't do that, because it's basically "cheating" to add a toy to your collection -- and no matter how good your painting skills are, you'll always know that the toy isn't the real Laser Optimus Prime.

My personal policy with repaints/customs is to make something completely original. I've seen other Transfans make repaints based on existing toy, like Titania's "Fractyl" which is a repaint of a bootleg Terrorsaur, and "Antagony" which is a repaint of Inferno -- aside from the fact that they weren't repainted that well, the fact is that they're not and never will be the real Fractyl and Antagony toys.

Hence I've tried to make all my customs something original or unique. Basically, something that isn't otherwise available at all, even if it's a cosmetic improvement of an existing toy e.g.: Amy Chasing Clerk's more showlike Inferno repaint (see Unicron.com's Alterations section).
