Though I haven't studied allllll of the other religions, I agree with Judaism the most. (whatever that means). I don't however, even want to THINK about taking any of it literally. I'm not a religious person by any means- I am spiritual. I guess I sort of use my religion because I pick bits of it that I like, and disregard those I don't. Oh well. I see religion as both comforting and uniting, and dividing- VERY dividing. I like the traditions of my religion, the family and the recognition of certain prayers make me feel like I belong. But I don't know if I believe in "God" perse. I don't think I'll ever know what I believe in, except for the fact that I deeply belive that everything happens for a reason. I can't figure out, in the judeo-christian theology, is God really this big old guy with a white beard? Is he human except up in the heavens and not really having a body? Is he the laws of nature? I never could figure it out except it seemed from the old testament that he was REALLY cranky and pissed off. That's about all I could feel about him, and that he would smite you if you were bad. - Yeah, there is this one prayer that pisses me off- basically says if you don't do this "I" get to decide how you die. By starvation, flood, etc etc etc. It's like um- excuuuuuse me? No. But then, there are some other cool things. It all depends on how literal you take it. The rabbi at my temple (after I complained to him about various things) told me to not take it so literally. - I don't even know if we are *supposed* to understand this....I mean the whole Trinity thing is impossible to understand...Father, Son, and Holy Spirit....ok....but they're all the same thing? Yes....ok......I've never been able to imagine God - so to me God is all things, Jesus I can imagine because I was always shown drawings, etc., so that's what has been ingrained in me. People would fight when discussing what Jesus looks like when you DO get to see him in Heaven....and I'd always think, well...he'll look like YOU, or whatever you'd imagined he would look like.....that type of stuff.....relaxed and groovy, totally!
