• Hey Magenta...you are a BEAUTIFUL SOUL!!! MWAH! I had daily religion classes during grammar school...which of course, means I absorbed ALL of it...NOT! I can barely remember anything from classes, just that I had to memorize the Ten big rules, and our pastor would come in to the classrooms by surprise and say "YOU! What's the 6th Commandment?!?" "YOU! What's the 9th Commandment?!?" and we were at once frightened, yet wanted to please him.....years later, we heard how he used to carry a GUN (!) when he walked through the Village....nice, huh? Glad we knew the commandments back then! I don't remember being told that other religions were *wrong* - they just never even TALKED about any other religions, that's how they got around that......   • On a sort of related but not really tangent....that's something I could never get - Certain Republicans (trying to not group people...there are a lot of Republicans I like) who are violently against abortion rights, and yet violently demand the right to carry a gun, which "Hello!" kills people.     • There are just so many levels to all these topics.....what about the anti-abortion crews that go so far as to bomb abortion clinics!? Somehow to them, it's not ok to consider abortion, but it's ok to harm who knows how many people that happen to be in and around that vicinity when the bomb goes off.     • Hey Roxy - It's the same mindset that allows Religious Wars to happen. Religion - something that was meant to help humans connect with each other and with "whatever" - is used to drive deep wedges between us. If you can disconnect with your fellow human, somehow see them as "other" and "not human", it just makes it all the easier to kill 'em. Sad really, since we're all essentially the same. If only humans could accept "connectedness" without a need to define "otherness".... • WOW! I've been missing a lot of interesting,and heavy topics by not coming here for a while! Just my lil' take on the religion bit--I was not brought up with any religion at all. Going to church as a kid was my own idea cause I saw a bunch of kids getting on a bus every Sunday and I wanted to know what it was like, so I got up early one day and got on that bus! I don't even remember what denom. it was, but I tries it off and on for a few years, but as I got older, it really started seeming absurd for me to go to church and pray, etc. To each his won (as long as no one gets hurt) but it's not for me. I like your thoughts on the whole Creator bit - I agree...and the good and bad which resides in people....I'd only hope that it's not *just* religion that would say murder is not acceptable - if there is good in the heart, then *murder* would not be acceptable to that heart. I can understand that in self-defense, or in defense of loved ones, one might have to end up involved in the ultimate form of self-defense. Still, if I ever ended up taking someone's life, even when defending my family or friends, I would suffer with having done that for the rest of my life.
