Subject: More Doodles

Lately Lyn's yahoo treehouse thingy has been abuzz with Izzardite ramblings about whether Eddie is a fake TV or not and them somebody on Mrs. B's board was desperately asking why oh why does Eddie make her so obsessed with him. It's a pretty strange phenomemon isn't it? We know it has a teenybopper sort of element to it and most of us are far too mature and worldly for that so it is something we struggle with.

Okay this is sort of not really a knitted together theory but bits of it seem to float about in my head and I want to write it down so they stop distracting me. You know there are lots of signals out there that keep reminding us of THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE. Whether it's the Christian Right banging on about sins and corrupting influences, or the Radical Left telling us what's evil and exploitative about White Men or The Corporate State, or just your family always tell you how you are supposed to feel. It's always there setting up a structure, a set of rules, a conventional wisdom, something that defines and categorises everything and makes it dogma.

Then there is Eddie who doesn't rebel against society's rules but simply acts as though they don't exist. He breaks the gender rules obviously, not by porclaiming his TV, marching and shouting, but by making it seem so silly to even worry about it. He does it more subtly in comedy, doing an act so unique that he reminds you of no one else, whereas most standups tell the same types of jokes and behave in the same manic or ranting way. And in his material he deconstructs every human thing, seeing it all with a bright child's eyes, never letting established orders and categories stop his mind from wandering but going at will from Jihads to cake or death to Church of England Airlines, all of it possible in a mind without restraint.

I sometimes think I see in his eyes an invitation, see the world as I see it, or better yet, see the world the way you will see it, if you can free your mind from all those rules you absorbed without question.

He is a real danger because his mind is always questioning and that can be dangerous to social order. It's not that he has the Answer, it's that he questions all answers. I don't know if he really does that but that's the tune I hear coming from his siren song.

Sometimes I think of him and I remember another man, though they are totally different. Another small shy man with dreams and passion, Robert Kennedy. His motto was - Some people see things as they are and say why. I dream things
that never were and say why not?"

Well that's all. Sorry if I got all soapy and stuff but I love Eddie so much that sometimes it just all spills out in a flood. Kisses to all!
