Subject: O/T a blurb on Alias

Since I've been seeing a lot of 'talk' here about 'Alias', I thought I'd share this. I get the Hollywood Reporter and they had a column about the show. Here's one part y'all would probably find interesting...

Jennifer Garner ("Pearl Harbour") is the latest to follow in the tradition of La Femme Nikita, Lara Croft, Xena and "Dark Angel's" Max as she punches and kicks her way into the role of Sydney Bristow, a grad student recruited several years earlier by a supersecret spy agency. This agency is so secret that even Sydney isn't fully aware of who her bosses are or what side they're on.

I personally didn't get to see the show as I work evenings although I do love 'Dark Angel'. (Caught it on an 'off nite' and started taping it)

Anyhoo, if anyone wants the full article, just email me and I'll send it to ya! If there's enough interest, I'll go ahead and post it here under the reply section as it is kind of lengthy.

Note to Shirleym: Glad you're back, I missed ya! (I'm way behind on my email and message board readings)

[> Re: One critic refered to Alias as "La Femme Felicity". It did well in the preliminary ratings. It received some good reviews and some bad reviews. One reviewer compaired it negatively to LFN... "Though there are surprises and crosses and double-crosses in the show's waning minutes, "Alias" fails to make me care much about its characters, their future or understanding who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. "La Femme Nikita" kept these mysteries beguiling in its early seasons; "Alias" can't manage to do that in its first episode... " Other reviews thought it was overlong and confusing. On the otherhand, some TV reviewers thought it was good with an especially good cast. I thought it was ok. There was a scene in which she is caught where she's not supposed to be and pretends to be a ditz looking for a bathroom. Then she tells the bad guy she likes his tie. Coincidence? -- Trish, 10:16:09 10/05/01 Fri

[> [> LOL, Trish--"La Femme Felicity" seems to about nail it. "Alias" does make me appreciate even more what LFN was able to do with a relatively modest production budget. (r) -- Susan W, 22:15:29 10/07/01 Sun

And regarding the second episode, I got a kick out of seeing her in a traditional chador. I've always thought that if we want to get bin Laden, we need to send in a woman--what he and his people would least expect.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to watch Alias, in a way I felt as if I was being disloyal to LFN, but I was curious and curiosity won out. I wasn't impressed. I found it very confusing, but then I am easily confused. It was much "lighter" than LFN and just did not grab me in the same way. LFN seemed more intriguing, because it was more realistic to me. When I saw Sidney taking on the bad guys single handedly without even a back-up team, it just struck me as almost a comedy. And of course, there was no Michael, so... Anyway, I prefer Dark Angel and Witchblade, but that's just me.
