I am trying to figure out the best and easiest way to repair a water leak in my shower. The leak is in the water supply line where it connects to the diverter valve. Problem 1 is,the plastic pipe going into the metal valve broke with pieces of the pipe stuck in the valve, and in the supply pipe. The second problem is, access is limited to an 8" circle behind the shower control valve. I can barely get my hand in; much less cut and join new pipe and valve. Any suggestions?

I have seen people widen the hole to fix the leak then put a large piece of stainless over the hole.
Doesn't look bad, either.

Thank you. That is certainly the best answer, so far.

Ike, you might try some PEX lines and fittings.
