These Eyes. My earliest memory is hearing that song on the bus on the way to school. I fell in love- that voice just haunted me. 31 years later,it still does.

For me, it was "Laughing...." yes! I loved the line, "You took away everything I had, you put the lid on, mee-eee--eeee." Also, No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature. I didn't know what it was about but I had this feeling it involved, among other things, sex.....(big stuff for a 13-year old to think about! Back then anyway).

It would have been 1973 or 1974. I was in 7th grade and we were doing a unit on poetry and popular music in our Engish class. We were assigned small groups of 3 students each, and we had to find a song which told a story. Gwen, the girl in my group, had an older sister who was into the Guess Who and she suggested we do No Sugar Tonight. That was my first exposure to the Guess Who but I didn't really get hooked until the fall of 1976 when I won two free tickets to BC's first solo tour. It was the first concert I ever attended and I didn't even make the BC-GW connection until he did his medley of GW hits that night. Then the penny dropped and the rest, as they say, is history.

You see, Burton had this annoying habit of putting out a heartbreaker right when I was breaking up with someone (or they me). He did it again with laughing. Of course I'll bet I'm not alone here. LL.

My first exposure to the GW/BC was the summer of 72 or 73. I was spending time at my friend's camper (another GW freak) and there was a billiards clubhouse where all the kids hung out at. They had an 8-track of Best Of Vol 1 and they played it constantly the whole time we were there. I began scouring record bins (sneeze) for albums. It was a great time to find budget records. Road Food came out soon afterwards and I've been hooked ever since. When Burton went solo it was a natural transition for any GW fan.

Man, this is bad but I don't remember exactly. I loved all the hits, the Best Of was one of the few albums I took away to college with me. But I got hooked on Burton from watching Melanie on HBO repeatedly, during a very bad time in my life. That's weird, I know, but the movie was my way of tranmitting beyond what I couldn't fix---pure escapism. I remember being very pleased his voice was still so good and that sealed it up for me, folks. I'd have to say that the Guess Who song that made the biggest impression on me in my early years was Star Baby. It was just fun.

Walking haome from school everyday and hearing No Sugar Tonight blasting out of the top window of a house on my street. I walked real slow past the house. Then it continued..American Woman...Bus Rider...Hang on to Your Life. I'd always say to whoever was listedning..There's that band with the great lead voice. I then bought all their LP's and still have them and still play them repeatedly. I've worn out three Live at the Paramounts. The stuff wears very well!!

Saw'em for the first time lipsynching the brand new release on American Bandstand. I knew this guy certainly had more than your average Peter Noone.

"Albert...Albert"! Except I couldn't find it anywhere. I wound up buying Rockin and that cemented the deal. "this is the end of record, YEAH"

I remember rushing home from school as a kid to watch this
really great band on the CBCs' "Let's Go" daily music show.
Each day, it came from a different city, but the Winnipeg show was the best show of the week. The band was great; the lead singer was very good. I still remember Chad Allan
appearing as a guest on one show (although I didn't know
who the hell Chad Allan was, other than being an ex- member,
and a decent singer). I also remember another show where
they had a video clip of the band members riding snowmobiles somewhere. "When Friends Fall Out", and a few
other original tunes are memories, too, but the cover tunes
were the purpose of the show, and they were well done.
Kind of lost track of the band briefly, but I found them
when I found the "Canned Wheat" album, newly released. I'd
heard "These Eyes" on the radio, but didn't connect with the first album til long after the "American Woman" album and the "No Sugar
Tonight" and "No Time" singles...."No Time" is still my
favourite tune to this day.

It was the fall of 1969 and my uncle took me for a ride in his 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 convertible, black with a red interior. We were doing 70 mph down a gravel road with the top down. On the 8 track player, "Of A Dropping Pin" was blaring. I will never forget that day.

The song that got me interested in the band was Shakin All Over....but the one that got me hooked was These Eyes.Great song, great overall production and sound by comparison to the early records and just a great vocal by Burt. What more can you say?

Definitely "These Eyes"....it was June 1969...I remember I was driving my car and "These Eyes" came on the radio..I actually had to pull my car over to the side of the road so Icould listen to it. Burton's voice grabbed me and hasn't let go since.

Three, actually... Sour Suite, Dream Of A Child and My Own Way To Rock. I've always liked the Guess Who and used to think that Burton sounded a lot like David Clayton Thomas from Blood Sweat And Tears... Of course, I also used to think that "You Make Me So Very Happy" and "These Eyes" sounded very much alike... Still, those were the three that got me hooked on Burton as a solo.

"The Sound of a Dropping Pin" was playing on a local radio station when I was in grade 6 or 7. I thought it was a cool song, different from the bubblegum that I so loved in those days. Then when the GW followed it up with "When Friends Fall Out",I was hooked for life!

New fan again. I loved the Guess Who songs but I didn"t put it all together until recently. My husband said listen to this and played I'M SCARED and then DREAM OF A CHILD. He loves ballads. I was really impressed. Then I played the BURTON CUMMINGS cd. Right after I heard CHARLEMAGNE I knew for sure I was a fan for life and that my life had changed forever. Never heard an artist whose every song is so good.

Wow, such hard questions. It was "so long ago I can hardly remember". That is the truth. I remember that it was not AW. I heard this song on the radio in about 68-69(yep about 32 years ago when I was one year old) :0). Said to myself, self get this record ( catch that all you youngens) (yes record). I always read them cover to cover. Found out that the singer( which knocked my socks off) was the same guy that wrote most of the music and lyrics. Kept reading and found he played the piano.(my personal favorite). Lo and behold when I looked at his picture I will be da gone if he just wasn't the most pleasant guy to look at too. So when it comes to remembering what hooked me I get all confused because I got hooked on them all that day. With each new album from GW and Burton solo( Burton was the GW,all due respect to the rest of the guys) hooked me for eternity. Dramatic I know. But true.Debbieray2

LOL. I lent my copy of "Melanie" to a friend to get her on the road to being hooked too. I knew before she even said anything the next day that she'd have a comment about the "I'm in the nude for love"... But we were discussing how any one of Burton's talents are enough to hook you (along with the good looks and charisma), but the combination is lethal.
