I swear I could have been the one to post this message. This sounds so much like my daughter and I. We have been competing a few more years than you but we feel the same way. My daughter is way beyond the age where she understands that sometimes she deserves to not place very high, but on the same hand, she's also old enough to know when she deserves to place higher and doesn't because a name child is there or someone knows the judges. The expense has just gotten way out of hand too. I remember back when you would pay 200.00 or so to enter a pageant maybe 50.00 to the best hair and make-up people and win beauty and walk away with 700.00 cash!!!! Where oh where did those days go? Ahhhhh, I love to think of those years gone by where we could pay Bently a couple hundred and never lose photogenic, now it's more like a couple thousand just to get pictures that *might* hold their own. It's crazy!!! We've cut way back on our pageants because of this because my daughter doesn't want to waste the money. She loves them but it's sad when the adults like the H&M people, directors, etc are the ones profitting and not the kids. And the kids aren't profitting not even from a good time most of the time because if their mommies aren't stressing them it's someone else.
