- WOW !! These guys look GREAT. I am looking forward to the Mr.World pageant. If i had to name my Top 5,it would be as follows: Puerto Rico, Malta,Mexico,Dominican Republic, and England. (NT) -- Kyle Hosier, Thursday, January 04, 03:27:37pm
- My faves are Dominican Republic, England, Italy,Latvia,Mexico, and Wales. Shirtless pics please, tee hee. I wonder if any of them don't shave their chests? (NT) -- Sassy Wench, Thursday, January 04, 09:51:51pm
- Larvia is cute, He was 1st Runner up of Manhunt International 2005. I hopes he wins Mr World 2007 like what Venezuela did in 1998, He was also 1st runner up of Manhunt International 1997. (NT) -- Jose, Friday, January 05, 07:12:05pm
- bump (NT) -- bumpster, Monday, January 08, 01:33:58pm
- They didn't add any actual contestants but they've added the complete countries list for this year's pageant. 61 countries in total, including Kuwait, Mongolia, and the United Arab Emirates. (NT) -- Interesting countries, Tuesday, January 09, 01:24:22am
Additional delegates: (Barbados-Greece-Spain) click here -- wow as in wow!, Saturday, January 13, 12:28:28am
- bump (NT) -- bump, Tuesday, January 16, 03:39:18pm
- I hope Belgium will also send a delegate... When is that Mr World pagenat exactly? (NT) -- Vinciane, Saturday, January 20, 03:46:05pm
- They've added some more within the past week. Chile has a great body, and Ireland is a cutie. Panama is the same Jaime Valdez that was supposed to go to Mr. International last fall (and was my pre-arrival choice) so I'm glad he's going to Mr. World. I may have to replace Greece with him for my top 3 although an all-Latin top 3 is not likely to happen. (NT) -- male pageant fan, Sunday, January 21, 08:30:13pm
- mr world 2007 -- Pamela, Sunday, February 04, 10:02:02am
- Mister World 2007 -- Dan, Monday, February 05, 03:30:38am
- Mr Malta is the cutest so far! -- Daniela, Tuesday, February 06, 04:04:51pm
- Now that Manhunt is over, let's think about Mr. World! The delegates are arriving in about 3 weeks. What are people's thoughts about the strength and endurance tests? Will that play into the judging process? Do you think they'll get 70+ contestants like the website says? (NT) -- male pageant fan, Monday, February 12, 09:24:48pm
- MR. WORLD has bettter candidates than Manhunt. I so surely agree. (NT) -- Mr. Universe, Tuesday, February 27, 12:51:30am

- regional winners? don't make sense. If they are the best in regional then why they are not in Top 5? Confused! Can anyone explain. Btw, I read in Pawee's board that Mr.China was 2nd RU last year. Do they allow same candidate to participate again? I hope he got dethroned and Canada become the new winner. I think Canada is hot. Btw, I also read in Pawee's board that Manhunt pageant lost it's credibility? oh dear is it every single pageant that exclude Philippines in SF is considered losing their credibility. Stop believing in your own hype. I think except China the Top 5 is good and I thought Brazil should be in SF. (NT) -- European Fan, Saturday, February 10, 09:02:31am
- HOW COME PHILIPPINES DIDN'T WIN MISTER INTERNET POPULARITY?...ARE YOU SURE THIS IS CORRECTED ? (NT) -- BAKLA, Saturday, February 10, 10:42:15am
- It's funny Hong Kong is Manhunt Asia but he didn't make to the top 16 (NT) -- ; (, Saturday, February 10, 12:09:55pm
- Interesting choice - China was definitely not one who was on everyone's radar. Of course, the fact that the modelling contract this year is being awarded by a CHINESE firm (Mythmodels, in Beijing) is just a fortuitous coincidence...right??? More suprising to me though - India was in top five. Can't imagine him being better than Belgium, Bulgaria or Costa Rica. Oh well, c'est la vie. (NT) -- martin, Saturday, February 10, 01:29:46pm
- Congratulations China! -- Pacoco, Saturday, February 10, 01:52:00pm
- I think it's time for an East Asian country to win a pageant. We have so many pageants that so pro European and Latin American countries. Having Asian in finals is a good thing. (NT) -- Maggie, Saturday, February 10, 05:07:37pm
- Congrats China! I love to see Canada as 2nd place. He's my fave!!! (NT) -- Canadacutie, Saturday, February 10, 05:15:35pm
- REGIONAL AWARDS chosen by the organizers? That's absolute CRAP! (NT) -- adasd, Saturday, February 10, 09:57:54pm
- lol (NT) -- lol, Monday, February 12, 12:46:13am
- China >>> NO !!!! Should have been Vietnam. (NT) -- Kyle Hosier, Saturday, February 10, 09:59:57pm
- I had China in my top 15 (well, China always makes it so it was a safe bet) but I am genuinely surprised that he won. Glad to see Canada and Australia in the top 5. Sorry not to see my three favorites, Belgium, Bulgaria and Costa Rica in the top 5 but they'll always be my favorite male contestants of 2007. Shocked that Angola, Indonesia, Netherlands, and others didn't make the top 15 yet Korea (!!), Lebanon, Panama and Puerto Rico did. I really liked the national costumes of this year's group. Congrats to everybody! (NT) -- male pageant fan, Saturday, February 10, 10:23:39pm
- Mr China is my favorite -- James Wood, Miami, Monday, February 12, 10:14:57pm
- I CANT STILL BELIEVE HOW ON EARTH MR CHINA BECAMETHE VICTOR OF THIS CONTEST?! (NT) -- WHAT HAPPENED?, Tuesday, February 13, 05:54:01am
- I know! Where's Mr. Belgium. He's so dreamy. But, yeah, GO CANADA! He's definitey hot. (NT) -- :), Saturday, March 03, 02:55:01pm

Subject: Mr World Canada: Gay model goes for world title (2005 article) |
Author: canadian hunk [Edit]
|
Date Posted: Friday, February 23, 01:47:55am
*I'm so happy that he is OUT and proud of being GAY. BTW, this article was in 2005, when he represented Canada in the Manhunt International competition. Goodluck CANADA!!!

Gay.com member Darren Storsley (darrengold20) is Canada's representative in the upcoming Manhunt International male model pageant, held in Korea Sept. 3-8. The blond hunk is the first gay Mr. Canada, and may be the only openly gay contestant in the worldwide competition, which tries hard to be hetero.
Being gay did not disqualify Storsley. In fact, he is gaining ground in the "Internet popularity" category, in which Web users pay a small fee to vote for their favorites at www.manhunt.com.sg.
The 31-year-old, who teaches sixth grade in Vancouver, said all of his students are routing for him. They're not alone!
Here's what else Mr. Canada said during a brief chat with Gay.com as he was packing his bags for Korea ...

First of all, your Gay.com profile says you've been "single by choice" for five years. What's up with that?
Seven years ago my heart felt something it hadn't in a long time. I met a wonderful guy and felt as though he and I were a team that could conquer the world if we had to. He brought out something wonderful in me. Since then, although I have dated, I haven't met anyone who I would call my boyfriend. I am very romantic and I believe the right guy is out there, but I also believe in timing. It will happen when the timing is right for both of us.
Have you been in pageants before?
I am an elementary schoolteacher by trade and have done some modeling and TV work before. For years I struggled with my self-esteem. I was overweight as a child and was constantly bullied at school. I hated the way I looked. It wasn't until after graduation that I started to develop confidence in myself.
I was selected to represent British Columbia in the Mr. Canada Manhunt Model Competition. I entered that to prove to myself that I finally had the confidence to accept myself for who I was and how I looked. I never imagined I would go all the way to win the title. It has been amazing. I have traveled to many parts of Canada and the United States making appearances. The best part, though, has been able to share my story about being bullied and having low self-esteem to encourage others who are in that situation.
This competition is about male beauty. How do you stay beautiful?
I have to laugh here, as I have never considered myself to be beautiful on the outside. I believe that beauty comes from within. But for the past two months I have lived on a tuna-and-vegetable diet, and I have always hated tuna and vegetables. I have been doing an hour of cardio work every day plus weight training. When I come back from Korea I plan to move into Dairy Queen. An entire summer without "blizzards" has been tough!
What do you find beautiful in other guys?
Although a killer smile and a commitment to physical fitness are important, the one thing I find most beautiful in a guy is confidence. A guy who is confident in who he is goes a long way with me. Someone who is passionate about life and who enjoys helping others is also very beautiful.
You'll be evaluated on casual wear, evening wear, swimwear and an interview -- but not talent! If you had to perform a talent, what would it be?
I'd show my stamp collection from when I was a kid! No, I love music and would probably choose to play a song on the piano. One of my favorite songs is by gospel singer Sandi Patti called "Another Time, Another Place." I would most likely choose to perform that song.
What will you wear for the swimwear portion?
I am bringing a pair of board shorts that I really like, a red Speedo and a black box-cut short. We'll see what kind of mood I'm in on the day of the swimsuit competition! Any suggestions?
How about, "Less is more"? Be honest: Are you bringing any makeup for this pageant?
No. I wouldn't know the first thing about make up. Since this will be broadcast around the world, most likely there will be makeup technicians to apply it if needed for lights and camera.
How do you feel about being a potential heartthrob to millions of women -- as well as men -- around the world?
OK, you're really making me laugh with this one. I've never seen myself as a heartthrob, although I appreciate the fan mail I have been receiving. It is a great feeling to know that people look up to me for a variety of reasons. Being able to help kids through their bullying issues has been very rewarding. After making appearances on radio or TV, I receive countless e-mails from young people going through bullying at school. It is nice to be able to talk to them. One thing about this Mr. Canada, he listens and he cares. People know this about me, and I think that makes me more appealing to them than what I look like.
Here's some practice for your interview: If you could change one thing about the world today, what would it be and why?
This is easy, and I don't think it would take a big change. All human beings need to be more sensitive and caring toward each other. We talk about world peace and how to combat terrorism, yet look at how easy the first steps are -- be kind to our neighbors, appreciate the diversity in each other, volunteer in our communities, smile at strangers, be appreciative of all that we have.
Besides winning lots of cash and trips abroad, what do you hope to gain from this experience?
I have never been about winning. I have always been about working hard and trying my best. Winning against another country is meaningless to me, whereas winning against myself is priceless. I feel I have already won the battle with myself. I have worked very hard for this. I have never been this healthy or this athletic before. Who knew there is a six-pack under there?! Although winning Manhunt International would be amazing and a position I would take very seriously, being Mr. Canada has been incredible, and I don't need the world title or what it could offer to feel like a winner.

Goodluck CANADA! And to the guys and gays out there, let's enjoy this pageant. It doesn't really matter if one's gay or not here. I mean, In Miss World, we don't care if anyone of them is a lesbian, right?
| | Replies: |
- Isn't he kinda too old for Mr. World? The interview was in 2005 when he was 31, which means he must be 32 or 33 now. (NT) -- Oscar, Friday, February 23, 11:00:37am
- I was disappointed he didn't place at Manhunt 2005, let's hope he does better here. Canada has been doing very well in recent Miss World pageants. (NT) -- male pageant fan, Friday, February 23, 11:18:57am
- now I remember! he was the one who wore the Canadian flag as costume with the maple leaf covering his crotch! lol! No wonder he lost! (NT) -- oscar, Tuesday, February 27, 04:42:29pm
