Subject: Big West Tradition?

I have enjoyed the dialogue regarding BW tradition & support. The theories are good and on the mark. I don't think there is one clear cut answer, however. I don't want to offend anyone, but there are certain campuses located in more rural areas where the college game is the only show in town, i.e. Idaho, USU, Pacific. Don't get me wrong - I am not stating this with arrogance coming from the LA Basin. I think the support is great and there is a lot to be said for a college town atmosphere - it's really a blast! On the flip side, the schools in the more populated areas really have to compete with other options. For these schools, it really boils down to wins and losses. Last year UCI was the hottest ticket in Orange County, this of course was a direct correlation to their record. I can also recall the Pyramid being sold-out when the 49ers were knocking off UNLV and consistently competing with all opponents. Anyway, like the rest of you, I am biased towards my alma mater and will argue Long Beach has a storied sports tradition and has plenty of potential when the quality wins start to consistenly occur. Just my thoughts. Go Beach!
