Wish it was that simple--

--The selection committee pays no to attention to press, public opinion or what TV performances look like--The only thing that seems to influence at large bids extended to teams from conferences out of the top 8(and the BWC is out of the top 8), is the RPI--

Last year UCI was on national or regional TV 7 times--

Cal(a win by 4 over a highly rated Pac-10 team)
UCLA(a last minute loss to another highly rated team)
Washington(a win on an away court to a Pac-10 team)
Santa Barbara(an easy away win)
Long Beach ( an away win on a last second shot)
Pacific(a comfortable home win)
Fullerton(a home win in a close game)

At that point UCI had an RPI at 52, had it beat Pacific and gotten to the BWC finals and lost to USU, it would have had a record of 26-4 and had an RPI around 60--It was rated just out of the Top 25 in the national polls-- Had USU lost to UCI it was clear they were not even under consideration for an at large--

Rumor was it would have been a bubble team with no assurance even then for an at large(some teams with lower RPIs than 50 were excluded)
