Thanks zzzza for the heads up. Below is an article from today's Record about the coaches search. It might be blasphemous for me to say this but I hope we go with Close.

Search for women's coach intensifies

By Bob Highfill

Record Staff Writer

The search for University of the Pacific's next women's basketball coach is heating up.

Craig Jackson, an assistant coach with the Tigers for four years, UC Santa Barbara assistant Cori Close and Pepperdine assistant Jody Wynn are candidates to replace Sherri Murrell, who resigned after four years to take over at Washington State.

''Everything went well,'' said Jackson, who had an on-campus interview Monday. ''I've done all I can do.''

Jackson was one of Murrell's first hires and the only assistant who decided to stay after she departed March 19. Previously, he was the head women's coach at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Ore. for two seasons.

Jackson has worked closely with Pacific's interior players. This season, sophomore centers Gillian d'Hondt and Alicia Smith, sophomore forward Andrea Nederostek and junior forward Vanessa Dupont were among the most improved players on a team that went 19-11 and reached the finals of the Big West Tournament for the first time in six seasons.

Close has been an assistant coach at UCSB for seven years and its associate head coach the past two. UCSB has enjoyed a remarkable run of success with six consecutive conference championships.

This season, the Gauchos were 26-6 and won their 14th in a row over Pacific, 64-53, in the championship game of the Big West Tournament. Then, the Gauchos beat heavily-favored Louisiana Tech, 57-56, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

UCSB head coach Mark French, who coached Pacific's women from 1979-83, credits Close with much of the program's success.

''I think she's one of the best assistant coaches in the country,'' French said. ''She's earned such great respect from me and our program because she makes decisions that other assistants don't get to make.''

Close said Monday she met with Pacific athletic director Lynn King over breakfast at the Final Four in San Antonio, and is in the process of setting a date for an on-campus interview probably early next week.

''I've had some great conversations with athletic director Lynn King,'' said Close, who played point guard and captained UC Santa Barbara's NCAA Tournament teams in 1992 and 1993. ''I've known Sherri since my senior year in high school, and she did a spectacular job foundationally and built the program on things I feel similarly about.''

Wynn, who wasn't reached Monday, has been an assistant at Pepperdine under Mark Trakh for six years. The former four-year letterwinner at USC played for Trakh at Brea-Olinda High, where she helped lead the Ladycats to three CIF championships.

This season, the Waves were 23-8 and advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Pepperdine beat Pacific 82-74 this season. Murrell was an all-conference guard at Pepperdine (1989-91).
