Subject: A sad comentary but true

Humm, did you see the Congressional hearings on ENRON?

It is sad to say that our constitutional guarantees are so sorely abused. Just because a person chooses to not testify before Congress, they are automatically pursumed guilty. Our courts are out of control. We are presumed guilty unless we can prove our innocence. After all we wouldn't be in court in the first place if we were not guilty!

I don't like what happened any better than anyone else but I think that the people who are being accused should get a fair hearing.

I watched a show recently on A&E about 4 guys who were accused of killing a group of buddists(?) in Arizona. They all confessed. None of them were guilty. They were all sentenced and serving time when one of the real killers confessed to the crime. Is 'forgive us for what we did to you' good enough?

I don't know if anyone here has ever had to go to court on charges brougt by the police. I was new to it until 2 years ago when I was charged with animal crulety for attaching my dogs leach to my truck door for 10 minutes while my son and I went into the grocery store. When I went to court, the cops said that the dog was tied with a rope around her neck and was chocking to death when they drove by. If it was not for an eyewitness testifing on my behalf, I would have been found guilty. Judges go with the cops story.

I want justice in the Enron case as much as anyone else but I don't like the way things are going for the ones accused. Cops are liers. Judges are crooked. Justice depends on how much you can buy.

I recently got a DUI--.084--that is 2 beers. The cops don't give manual sobriety tests any more. When we got to court, the cop said that my speech was slured, I was staggering and obviously drunk. Since the machine registered a .084 and the legal limit is .080 the judge ruled against me. The cop lied, the judge agreed with him and here I am, depressed and disillusioned with the justice system.

Well good you say, you drinkers ought not to drive. Just wait, your turn is coming. If you allow unfairness in one case, you open yourself up to unfairness in all cases.
