Many PCP look for new patients, yes, they want to have a longer visit with you, and you would need to allow time from work for that. The year wait as a "new" patient? Sorry, that's on you, not the physician.

(btw, also relocated twice in 18 months due to employment. Took 6 weeks for initial appointment for first move, 4 weeks for appointment with second. All referrals for new allergists, dermatologists, and orthopedists went through within days and appointments made fairly quickly. Longest wait for a specialist was about 3 weeks out)

I assure you, appts with PCP MDs in network in my large US city have long waits. I could be seen by an NP sooner (NT) -- waiting for an MD, 11:34:35 04/03/26 Fri
Fun fact. Most don't refer to MD as a "general practitioner" in US. That's Ire. & UK. AP is not US, by the language of post and called on it. Agree with the other poster, live in one of the most metropolitan US cities, never had any huge wait, except for annual physical, which is always booked a year for pretty much everyone, due to length of exam -- just saying, 16:52:10 04/03/26 Fri
