Yes - since I posted the original message - reporting on the advice I was given from my JVC dealer I too have tried to check with JVC and it does appear that there is some doubt about this.

I will not be very happy if it turns out that my dealer has lied to me. I will be giving him a VERY hard time if he has been lying to me - and he can expect to have the unit bounced back to him as unfit for the purpose sold.... I will also provide details of the company involved to anyone who emails me - so that you can make your own decision as to whether you want to buy from someone who lies....

However I am waiting for the two weeks that he quoted me JUST IN CASE - and I will keep you posted as to progress...
