I have just spoken to JVC in the UK and they have no knowledge of a patch or any other type of upgrade. They confirmed that both the American and Japanese versions have DV in/out and did not know why the European version does not.

I have tried to connect a Mac using firewire, it will control the tape (ie play, forward, rewind etc) but it will not display a video output.
