We get the same thing here in Canada with people 'finding' an 'abandoned' seal pup on the beach, or an 'abandoned' fawn, hidden in tall grass. What those idiots don't realize is that the mama seal or the doe are doing is leaving their progeny in a safe place while they go have a bite to eat. They have to do that so they can continue to lactate and feed their infant. (I won't use the language I'd prefer to use in order to describe those idiots.) BTW, in my opinion you can thank organizations like PITA for promoting the idea that young animals can't take care of themselves, or that animals have the same 'ethics and morality' as humans. No matter what PITA claims, animals are simply interested in the survival of themselves and their progeny, so they do their best, but sometimes they fail - end of story. I don't know whether to blame it on typing with one hand or on being loaded with pain meds. LOL.

PETA = People Eating Tasty Animals PITA = Pain In The A** ;-)
