My father was an aircraft crew chief in WWII and spent most of the war in Canada preparing aircraft for the shuttle flight to Britain. Many of these were lend-lease aircraft. Dad had a few stories about that period in his life, and he mentioned that a lot of the pilots her prepared the planes for were women. His favorite plane was the P-61 black widow. He also mentioned that when you ran the engines up to full power on a B-25 it felt like an elevator going down as the suspension took up the slack.
