I just logged on and couldn't help smiling at today's photo post (the skid steer in the snow).

Where I live (near Brisbane, Australia), it's about 21:45 on Monday evening. I'm sitting here in shorts, all the windows & doors are open, and it's about 23degC (about 74degF).

It is indeed a wonderful world!

Wishing Wes and all my fellow readers a safe and happy holiday period, and I hope it doesn't get either too cold or too hot wherever you are!

You don't have to go to the southern hemisphere to see a
warm Christmas... for the last few weeks the daytime temperatures have been in the 70s(F) (21-26 C) in these parts. Example:
http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/Glendora+CA+91740:4:US

The areas along the Southern California coastline have typical daytime temperatures rarely lower than 60F (15C) and rarely higher than 80F (26C) year around.
Nighttime temperatures can be 10 to 15F lower.
See http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/90066
But the COL (cost of living) here is high.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
And may next year be better than this year.

It may be warm in Australia, where I have a brother and sister, and in California, from where my wife hails, but here in Mississippi it is winter. Last night it was 24 and today it may get to 50 degrees. But it is the holiday season, so everyone, even those in areas where it is warm, and I am jealous, have a great Christmas, do not eat to much, and stay safe.

Just 'to throw a little more fuel on the fire', at our corporate Christmas party a few weeks back, I was chatting to one of our vendors who, originated from Norway.

In a previous life, we had both spent time in our respective Armies. We had a bit of fun 'debating' whether it was easier route marching (not sure what you'all call it) in +30degC or -30degC.

(We both decided the other had the harder time).

Not sure I would want to do it at either temperature -- sweat to death or freeze your lungs ... done both and don't like either (not that I've done the marching but done some outdoor working when I was mining about 30+ years ago)
