Subject: Photo Post: New SLT Feature

With the coming of 2013 I'm introducing a feature I call "Photo Post." I'm a pretty good photographer, but I tend to only take photos of things I need to. I know I often pass by the opportunity to take interesting photos because there's no reason to take them and I have no place to use them. As a result I miss a lot of interesting shots.

So, my New Year's resolution is to put up a photo with each post -- it will force me to get out and take more photos for the sake of taking them! Unless things get goofy or the weather turns lousy, each photo in Photo Post will have been taken since the previous posting. I hope to avoid too many landscapes and cute cat shots. These photos will almost certainly not have anything to do with the story, and in most cases I won't do any description of them -- if it's needed I'll mention it in the "Newsbox" to the left of the current post.

The photos will hopefully change with each post. The photo can be viewed larger by clicking on it.

This is an experiment, so we'll see how it works out.

I've enjoyed the two photos you've posted so far. I guess they were recently taken by you. Since I live in the Gulf South, there is rarely snow. It only snows once every 10 years or so and then it usually melts the next day. I miss the snow since I lived in "snow country" from ages 4 through 13. Thanks for the pictures and memories.

I'm enjoying your photographs, so far. My only suggestion is that you put a caption at the bottom of the photograph. For instance, I was wondering where the wall was located. Thanks.

This is the old Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad Bridge over Bean Creek in Hudson, MI. The majority of my photos will be taken within ten miles of it. I'll think about how to do discriptions with the least fuss.

At some point when more pictures have been posted would it be possible to have an archive where we could see all of these pictures?

Will think about it. The idea is good but I don't want to get wrapped up in too much administration.

Hi, Wes, what do you think about this type of gallery (at the bottom of the page):

That could work. Let's discuss via e-mail.

Another idea is to add the "Photo Post" or the "Photo Post" page to the main menu. Just to make it easier to find.

Your post of 2-8-13 shows a foggy, dreary looking day. Is this what you meant when Randy described a November day in Spearfish Lake like Hell with fire burned out?
