I forget which sports celebrity appeared in the commercial I'm remembering but I remember one where the lead was asked why they bought a VW station wagon? And he answered "Becasue Mercedes doesn't make a station wagon".

That may have been the same commercial as you saw, Wes.

And 4-5 months later I saw a diesel station wagon (the 300TD in the Mercedes showroom.
