This reminded me of a cartoon, which unfortunately I couldn't find on the Internet. It shows a hippie holding a sign proclaiming something like "The world will end at midnight. 12:30 in Newfoundland". (You have to have grown up listening to CBC to truly appreciate this.)

In Australia, South Australia and Northern Territory have their own time zone, a half-hour different from the Eastern states. To complicate matters, South Australia has Daylight Saving Time in summer, while Northern Territory stays on Standard Time all year round.

The Eastern states are also a little confusing, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania plus Australian Capital Territory have Daylight Saving Time, while Queensland stays on Standard Time all year round.

Brazil's version of DST can get even more confusing. There have been years that the entire country has used DST, other times there has been varying number of states using it.

There has even been cases where a state started out using DST with the other states using it and stopped using it earlier than the other ones.
