Saw a show today on Great trains around the country. Some deisel, some steam all with great scenics. One was the Grand Canyon railroad, one ran the Nantahela Gorge ain NC, and Stopped at NOC. Nice to see some of the places you talk about.

Regarding trains and the SL universe, it seems the LS&I (Lake Superior & Ishpeming) would rate a mention in one of the Tales based in Marquette. Another would be the Grand Canyon Railway which had a LS&I Consolidation or 2-8-0 in service, though currently stored serviceable.

Wes posted in another message about the E&LS (Escanaba & Lake Superior), another short line running west to Channing from Escanaba. Neat little line with Baldwin locos and home to the Sharknose cab units from the D&H. With Spearfish Lake "near" the E&LS it would not be too much of a stretch (or literary license) to have the Sharknoses make an appearance in SL on a D&O or C&SL extra.
