Dredlocks is a form of wearing of the hair that originates from the Jamaican Rastafarians who are a kaafir people. This culture is EXCLUSIVELY from them... and as Muslims we are prohibited from imitating or adopting the ways, behaviors and cultures of Kaafirs:

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As, Allah's Messenger(peace be upon him) said,

"He does not belong to us who imitates other people.
[Narrated by Abu Dawood, 4031. Classed as hasan by al-Haafiz ibn Hajar in Fath al-Baari, 10/271. its isnaad was classed as jayyid by Shaykh al-Islam in Iqtida� al-Siraat al-Mustaqeem, p. 82]

Your culture as a Muslim should be Islam.. not rastafarians. If you want to imitate a people and adopt their hairstyle, imitate the wives of the Prophet(saw). They used to wear their hair in braids.
