Asalama Aleikum,

Am I eating haraam food when I eat chicken, turkey, and goat that were NOT slaughtered according to the Islamic way? Or is this meat just called Makrough? When I am eating such chicken, etc. am I getting the same amount of gunnah/sin I would get if I was eating pig meat (which I don't). Is it true that all cheeses are haraam except for Philidelphia Kraft Cream Cheese?

Wassalam.

As Saalamu Alaikoum,

Praise be to Allah.

To make conditions in regards to islam that Allah or his prophet(saw) did not make is a major sin in islam.

Allah says in the interpretation of the meaning;

"Made lawful to you this day are AtTayyibât [all kinds of Halâl (lawful) foods, which Allâh has made lawful (meat of slaughtered eatable animals, etc., milk products, fats, vegetables and fruits, etc.). The food (slaughtered cattle, eatable animals, etc.) of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) is lawful to you and yours is lawful to them..." [Surat 5:5]

No where there does Allah say that eating chicken or turkey from the christains or jews is undesireable.. he says their food is lawful to eat as long as their animal has not been killed in a haraam way such as mentioning the name of jesus or some god over it, or by strangling it, or hitting it with a violent blow, and all others mentioned in the ayat before this one. So thus, how can you think that something which Allah said is lawful is similar to something that is unlawful?????

As believing Muslims we have to learn to accept what Allah says without adding our own new words such as "undesireable" and the likes to it, because to do so means that you are saying that Allah said something he did not say; and anyone who lies on Allah will take their seat in hell.

In regards to whether something has pork or any other haraam substance in it.. just turn the item over and read its ingredients. If you still have doubts about its ingredients, then call the manufacturer and ask them what their ingredients are.

Thus most things are very simple to figure out.

AND ALLAH KNOWS BEST
