First of all, all our answers are based on the Proofs of Quran and Sunnah. We do not give our opinions to answers. The Prophet(saw) said Allah has cursed the one who makes pictures. On the day of Judgement he will be told to bring it to life which he will not be able to do. [Bukhari] So thus making pictures are haraam. This is in regards to pictures of People and animals. There is nothing wrong with making pictures of trees or buildings. In regards to taking pictures, taking a picture involves using a camera and the camera takes the picture.. you do not draw it so therefore the majority of the scholars say that taking pictures with a camera is not haraam; however, you can not hang them up in your home. The prophet(saw) said the angels do not enter a home that has pictures on display [Bukhari and Muslim] So if you take pictures of your family, put them in an album and put them away in a drawer or something so as they are not out on display.
