Subject: There was no violence at the border crossing
In reply to: Drummond 's message, "The violence of ethnic profiling" on 23:42:01 05/22/02 Wed

Suspicion after the fact always seems bad to those caught up in it. The story relates "half an hour gone," I have conducted longer interviews with people, for a lot less than a border crossing.

He admits that he fits the profile of the imagined terrorist. Therefore he should understand the havoc caused by others fitting that same desciption.

I believe there is more of his own sensabilities being alert to his treatment, than there was actual mistreatment.

You must ask yourself, if you were a border patrol person trying to do your job, would you have acted in the same way? If he fits the profile of a terrorist, you probably would, or you should lose your job.

One half hour is not a lot of time, questions are not the problem. I have been searched crossing the border a few times. My car pulled to the side too. I do not fit the profile, and this was before Sept 11th. Was I singaled out? No. Was he. Probably not any more than others that are searched.

I am reminded of a friend that is a border agent. He is in charge of random searches at his post. With all the issues today, he can be accused of something at almost each search. I do not get upset over peope claiming they were singled out. I do get upset when people accuse people of doing it when there is nothing out of the ordinary in the stop.

Sorry, suspected drug dealers are not treated any better.
