Oh... and I never mentioned it here but last week i got my first weird phone call in japan! i was most impressed!

I had been in a friend's room until rather late that evening (well, rather late the next morning to be precise) and had just got back so I was getting ready for bed when... almost completely naked, my phone rings! (the naked one would be me here rather than the phone... although my phone wasn't wearing all that much either...) And this was 3:00 in the morning! Wha? thinks I, and answers the phone.

moshi moshi? (Japanese style...), the reply?
moshi moshi?. Weird? yes I thought so to so I tried again...

hello? (Engligh style), the response...
hero? (Japanese style) Hmm... no clues yet.

dare desuka? (Japanese style= who is it?)
Just someone trying to find someone to talk to...(translation mode)

Who were you trying to call?
Oh, anyone is OK. I'm just trying to find someone to talk to. Is that alright?
Erm... (looks at watch - 3:00am) No.

And thus my unknown assailant and I parted ways in the middle of the night, never to meet again - at least not knowingly...

The weirdest thing is this. Aparently it is not all that uncommon. Not that they are dirty phone calls or anything, but it is a recognised, if a little rare, method of Nanpa (picking up) in this country! Guys ring numbers at random until they find a girl to talk to and from there they try to make friends, then meet up for a date or something... and what's worse? Many of these guys are successful in their endeavours! Like 30 times worth of success!

So how about it guys - for those of you desperate and dateless guys out there, how about you let your fingers do the walking? All you need to do is put your calling number display block on and dial away... if you think it'll work in Aus that is...
