He glanced over at her finally, when she spoke. He had his emotions under control well enough now, and by the sound of her tone, those emotions would be turning soon enough. She had always been the only one who could get him riled up without much effort. It had made them an interesting pair, but it had worked to the better when it wasn't fighting she was after. But now, she was questioning his words with a sharpness to her words that told him she was getting fired up once again. He really hadn't meant to start something with his words, but then, when had he ever?
"I came back Kat. I gave you time to cool your head and hoped you hadn't meant what you'd said... But you were gone" Everyone had been gone. No one who knew Kat was left to ask where she'd gone. That was when he'd broken on the inside. There had been no way for him to ask her to think it over, no way to say he was sorry and that he still wanted her to come with him. How could half of a town simply disappear over a few short weeks? It hadn't even been two months, and everything he had hoped to find had been gone like it never existed.
Hooking a left, he pulled into the motels small lot and pulled up near the office, putting the truck in park and cutting the engine before it disrupted anyone overly much. He turned to her then, face softly cast in the few remaining dash lights that remained on "All I did was what you told me to. I left you alone. But I never intended to let you go" He just couldn't find her again. Had she stayed put, like he figured she would, he would have continued to keep coming back, checking in on her and seeing if she'd realized the error in her decision. He hadn't wanted to leave her here at all. But she hadn't wanted to go, hadn't wanted to hear any of his requests or his compromises, hadn't wanted to talk about it at all. If he could do it all over again, he would have told the record company to wait or go fuck themselves. He could have made enough money to survive as a bartender, and that would have been enough if he'd been able to keep Kat
