The very last thing he'd expected to happen when he'd gotten out of the Renegade was to be face to face with the very woman who'd been brooding over just moments before. Yet here he was, standing with her, one of her bags suspended in his strong grasp. His expression may have been comical in any other situation, shocked as it was.
He came very close to putting her bag back down in the damned puddle she'd dropped it in when she opened her mouth, speaking like the sight of him was some kind of punishment. Instead, simply nodded. "Yeah, I'd say someone does."
He was equally as stuck as she was. He didn't want to enter that club...if he'd beat Stan here, Angelina was likely to flip. Probably ask him questions he didn't know how to answer. No, going in there was absolutely not an option. So he stood, dark eyes leveled at the woman who'd stolen his heart, once upon a time. And driven him crazy, most of the time.
But the truth was, as crazy as she'd made him...as much as she'd abused his love-sick heart...he had done something just as bad. Maybe even worse. He'd been the one to walk. And no matter what else had been wrong between them, she hadn't deserved that.
"I don't need you to tell me I don't belong here." He said softly, his accent noticable. "I know that. Tumbler called me back. He called us all back." He frowned, watching her cross her arms over her shapely chest. He hadn't anticipated running into her. She had always been a woman with spirit...and desires far too great for this little city to fulfill. He would have thought she'd been on to bigger and better things. Perhaps she hade, judging from the luggage. Perhaps it was just bad timing that had crossed their paths.
But even on the defense, totally shaken from the sight ofher, he was aware that she still stirred his emotions in a big way. She'd been his first love, and hell if she didn't still effect him.
But judging from the venom in those falsely green eyes, he wasn't affecting her in the same way.
