In reply to: Melissa, the happiest person in the world!!! 's message, "Audrey Pualey!!!!!!!!!!! My new favorite ep! Weeeeeeee!! I'm so happeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!" on 22:29:27 03/17/02 Sun

You must have been in Dripper heaven with this one Melissa! :-) I hadn't read much about it so it was all pleasant surrise. I did see some spoiler about a supposed kiss but I didn't know it was in this episode or in what context.

It's been a long time since an XF episode has inspired me to write a half decent review. Watching Audrey Pauley was rather bittersweet. Why? Beause they finally appear to be on the right track and railroad's going to be shut down. Rats!

Wonderful episode 1013 crew! A beautifully touching story on all counts. I especially liked Audrey and her little hospital. What a clever idea having her be in charge of her own creation and being able to affect the destiny of those who stumbled into it. She probably has never been so in control in her entire life.

Great performance by Robert Patrick. He really answered the call and covered a range of emotions rearding Doggett's anguish and beligerance.
What a nice turn of events in the evolving character of John Doggett to have him knocked into the world of beleiving in the paranormal not because he was given overwhelming evidence, but because the unexplainable evidence he was presented with was accompnied by the more urgent reason that he had no choice but to believe.

I got the impression that there was a lot more to this story than time allowed. There were some abrupt edits. It might have made a nice two parter but the network probably wouldn't go for a Doggett-Reyes two hour edition. Too bad. And too bad the two of them weren't given half a chance by some to join the X-Files family.

A few more observations:

I know Scully was being Miss Sensible but it would have been nice if she had reflected on her own coma and in watching Doggett, gotten an idea what Mulder must have gone though for her.

When we first saw Monica pull up in the car I suspected from her attitude that she was on a date with someone. It was a surprise to see it was Doggett in the passenger seat!
She looked like she'd had more than one beer though.

Having been through a similar car crash where someone ran through a red light in an intersection, that scene wasn't fun for me to watch.

They seem to have upped the relationship between John and Monica considerably. But it looks like they've both gone to the Mulder and Scully School of not opening up with their feelings. Why not try a different approach and actually have them admit it to each other?

There was some resistance from some about a previous actress ("Lucy Householder" from Oubliette) appearing aain but I had no problem with it here. She fit the part wonderfully.

In the real world Doggett would have rushed to Audrey's side at the end to at least check for a pulse. He seemed to just assume it was too late.

I loved the mystery involving the lack of writing and the jumbled words on the hospital charts.

It's always nice when you care about guest characters enough that you want them to survive. I felt that way about both Audrey and Steven. I pictured Steven and Monica making a united front against that doctor and Monica getting help for Audrey's learning difficulties She could have dyslexia which could be helped.

I'm not familar with Rose Red but there's a old Twilight Zone episode with Robert Duval and a doll house he had. I haven't seen it in a long time but knowing how TXF likes the Zone there could be similarities to that.
Stephen King heavily borrowed from a TZ ep for Chinga so maybe he did for Rose Red as well. It all goes back to the Zone! The character named Steven I assumed was the writer Steven Maeda naming him after himself but maybe it was a nod to King.

I wondered while watching this, being the huge Mulder and Scully fan that I am, whether I would rather have seen Mulder and Scully play out this episode. But I really wouldn't. It fit Doggett and Reyes. They have really come into their own as characters. Too bad it's too late.

Once again I say Rats! :-(

PS. I put up pics from this ep on the Supp. Characters board and the Shipper board. (Even though the MSR Shippers won't like it!) I think I'll put up one on the Doggett board too. If this series was going further than this season I would definately consider a DRR board!
