hey guys, just read the report and am a confused as to what this means :

'And off the pitch? There have been times when these neighbours have met in the recent past that tribalism has overstepped the mark, where decency has been sacrificed on the altar of parochialism.

This, though, an occasion replete with more than enough opportunities to indulge in schadenfreude, was different. There was no triumphalism from the Moseley supporters.'

My GCSE english qualification isn't quite enough to understand some of the words in this report

We all said yesterday that even if we scored 150 points against bees he would find negatives with us !!!! Let's face it he is a bees fan and doesn't like us but he still comes back to our club after match for drinks even though he interviewed players/ coaches after game on the pitch ???

Anyway who cares we won , we deserved to be in th championship they didn't !!!!!

I think the Dick's comments are unusally complimentary in this instance. There was a golden opportunity to rub some B&S faces in the dust yesterday after some less than friendly rivalry between the 2 clubs in the past but the retraint shows how real rugby people behave even when their rivals are down. I for one don't remember some Bees supporters having behaved in a similar way when the siuation was reversed.
The rest of his article is perfect sense. We've just escaped relegation; with a well funded replacement for Bees coming up from Nat 1 next year things will be even tougher. In fairness with the swuad we assembled this season it's a situation we should never have been in.

Interesting comments from Mr Smith and my two immediate reactiosn were "yes he's right Moseley do need more investment" and "well you would say that wouldn't you!"

yes the club could use more investment to spend on players, the stand, ground inmprovements, youth development, merchandise etc etc etc but the other comment smacks a little of "well you didn't give me the right tools to do the job" which, personally, I woudl have to disagree with especially as the person complainign is the one who chose the tools.

I realy don't know what the solution is to the lack of investment, I'm not blaimgin the Board as I know how hard they have worked to keep Moseley alive and kicking and other than my comment above I'm not going to say anything about the whethrr changing the coaches is right either - I made my feelings clear earlirr in the season on this board as people will probably recall. IMHO Moseley need freshening up - who, where and how is not for me to decide - but the status quo is not and cannot be an option otherwise it will be Pool C again next season.

from what i know of it and been told, our playing budget is not much different to half the clubs in the league. as you say it was the coaches team (weell more smiths than maggs as he came on board after) and it seems like there is an element of excuses coming in. i dont think the criticism of the directors will help smith's cause or his position!

I think that the board have tried to give us a strong chance of finishing in the top 8 for the last 2 seasons. I am sure we have all been excited to see the new signings perform in the pre-season games and the first few matches, but then as the season progresses we find out who are good enough and also where our weaknesses are , then The Board support another 4 or 5 new additions.
My question is should the players we had this season of been able to finish in the top 8 ?

IMHO I believe this to be one of the best squad of players that we have had for years, unfortunatly they have not always played as a team, also the player who has been our most potent force in the latter part of the season Ollie, could not even get in the team earlier on because his face did not fit,a moseley player like a few others through and through. So where do we find ourselves looking?

I think Mr Dick has provided a very poor ,unbalanced perspective of the game. He appears somewhat bias in his report. A shabby peice of journalism at best.

You may disagree with his call of the Moseley performance (being oversees I'd hardly know) but I find it hard to see the bias towards Bee's. He's pretty damning of them as well. Let's face it, it was a bottom of the table clash.

Just my 2 cents (1.22 pence) worth.

Let's face it, many supporters - not all I know - but many would have been happy at the start of the season to be safe of relegation with a game to go.

Yes, it would have been nice to have finished fifth or sixth, say, and performed well in the promotion playoffs, but that would almosat inevitably have involved extra outlay on players for the whole season. At the end of it all, we wouldn't have got promotion, or been in a position to accept promotion.

Let's celebrate the fact we've survived without spending money we don't have. Thoughts of dazzling exploits in the upper reaches of the Championship are a bit premature unless some generous fan out there has a few hundred thousand to lob the club's way so we can go fully professional and build the infrastructure to pass Prem regs. Any offers?

There is a perfectly acceptable medium between the situation we were in and the 5/6th place finish and a good run in the playoffs mentioned by R&B.
I certainly don't know anyone who would have been happy at the start of the season with the thought of us avoiding relegation in the penultimate match of the season.
The reality seems to me that we have assembled the strongest squad we've seen for some years; one which should have been capable of finishing ahead of 4 other teams in the regular season. Indeed I thought at the start that Rotherham would be a good team to match our progress against and that 45 points would be the bench mark for safety. With the benefit of hindsight I still think those were attainable with the squad available.
While I am, needless to say, delighted that we avoided the drop (and gutted in equal measure that work kept me away from the game)I am still deeply concerned at the inonsistency of our performances throughout the season. For the good of the club and future planning the euphoria of escaping relegtaion (a situtaion we should not have been in) must not obscure the problems of the 22 games which preceeded the playoffs (nor indeed the first 2 playoff games.)

I've never detected anything in Brian's writings that could be called bias. Disappointment, perhaps, but even the most rabid pro-Moseleyite would have to agree with him there.

In the joy of the result I think some of you have rose tinted your memory of the game. Despite all Bees problems (that Brian rightly refers to), we were not real sure of the result until after the final whistle.

I lost count of the number of times we kicked away possession to absolutely no advantage. Ollie is a fabulous place kicker, and useful all over the pitch, but his kicking out of hand needs vast improvement before we base our whole game on it.
