I'm sorry to be rude, but they just didn't have it, and I could see that before they even arrived in Mexico or Vietnam. Natalie, Alice, Inga all 3 born in europe immigrating to Canada at young ages, all tall dark hair (well Natalie is Naturally lighter) but I was shocked they didn't darken Inga's hair, but she resembled Natalie A LOT.. All three of them even speak with a slight european accent.. Alice's being the least noticeable. • Wow.....we've sparked up a little bit of a debate! I think that Canadian girls can be just as consistent as powerhouse countries in Miss Universe. But what type of girl are we looking for? That's the question! It has nothing to do with looking alike or not, it's more to do with a girl that will pack a punch the minute she arrives in the host country. Personally, I thought Sam had a chance, and I don't think she looked like past contestants. But with saying that, Sam was up against a strong group of girls who really wanted it. If anything Natalie was molded to look like a Latina (her natural hair is not dark) All of them represented Canada well, the level of dificulty in placing was higher for Alice, Inga and Samantha because their country has won so recently and because MU 2006, 2007, and 2008 were a lot more competive than 2005 (the number and the qaulity of the contestants in 06, 07, and 08 was higher than in 2005) Nevertheless we are proud of all of them! • okay whoever thinks that canada doesn't have attractive girls is ridiculous.......being so multicultural we have one of the widest variety of beautiful women to choose from. as stated above it all comes down to the fact that interest in canadian pageants is minimal at best and few women feel they will be respected for participating in beauty pageants. for a country that is very progressive, we still have an antiquated view on pageantry. I was in mwc this past year and i found myself constantly defending my choice to participate in a pageant.       • I don't think our pageant fans are necessarily negative, as much as they are somewhat skeptical lately. There was no negativity when Natalie, Alice or Leanne were MUC.         • I agree with what you're saying, however, there is another misunderstanding. During MUC this past year, all contestants were notified (in a letter) that the top 5 would be going to Nicaragua on that trip. Sahar and Genita couldn't make it (due to work committments) so two other top 10 members (who were available to go) went in their place. Sadly, no matter who wins next year there will be claims of "fixing" - there will always be some "reason". When Natalie won, there were also claims of it being fixed, but that was forgotten after she won Miss Universe. And yes, those claims were made about Alice too. I understand people being skeptical, but instead of assuming negitave thoughts surrounding things like the Nicaragua trip, please look at the other possibilities too and the sincere purpose of that trip.           • Isabelle, I am a past pageant contestant and because this world is so small, a friend of mine actually knew by chance one of Alice's sponsors and this sponsor leaked before her crowning they Alice was promised by the organization she would win. In Natalie's year, many of us thought Gretel Montgomery was more beautiful and should have won. That was a competitive year and in retrospect it turned out right. Canada produced one of the most beautiful Miss Universes ever. In Leanne's year, I was surprised by her win, because she seemed to come out of nowhere. A select group were dressed in Ao Dais (the elegant Vietnamese dress) and put on special floats, while the rest wore pink t-shirts and rode on flat floats. Venezuela got to headline the whole thing.   • She's actually very good on stage. Though she did trip a couple times over her evening gown, and her on stage interview came off as very ditzy. There still is no question that she has presence. That said, I expected her to be 1st RU. I think Sahar is much more elegant and sophisticated looking. That girl is truly beautiful. I found Samantha to be a bit "too much", and the lip injections unnatural.. Plus, if the BOC organization want her to do well at MU, a makeup artist needs to work on her eyebrows (did anyone see her on ET Canada monday night, yikes!).. • Sahar is much more beautiful...but why the platforms? She's not short at all at 5'8. I love Sam's evening gown, but does she need to hold up the tail? How pageant patty - hope that doesn't decribe the rest of her style and persona, but I find her to be a weak representative overall.
