The broadcast will be live on this website: http://www.beautiesofcanada.com/

After viewing interviews, swimsuits and evening gowns, here is my Top 10 and how I ranked them.

10: Sarah Harisson
Age: 24 | Height: 5’11″
Hometown: Halifax, Nova Scotia

9: Vaughan Marr

Age: 23 | Height: 5’9″
Hometown: Cremona, AB

8: Jenna Talackova
Age: 23 | Height: 6’2″
Hometown: Vancouver, BC

7: Ines Kipre
Age: 23 | Height: 5’10″
Hometown: Gatineau, QC

6: Casar Jacobsen

Age: 26 | Height: 5’10″
Hometown: Vancouver, BC

TOP 5

5: Katie Starke

Age: 21 | Height: 5’11″
Hometown: Uxbridge, ON
This girl could easily win it, amazing in SS, polished in interview but not the best gown choice, I hope someone tells her to change before tomorrow.

4: Adwoa Yamoah

Age: 24 | Height: 5’9″
Hometown: Calgary, AB
This girl is a pageant PRO, after placing twice in MUC, she is clearly heading to the top 5, she made no mistakes whatsoever.

3: Chelsea Byrd

Age: 23 | Height: 5’8″
Hometown: Edmonton, AB
The SS winner at prelims and has a great EG to boot. Interview is already good, but I would preferably give her one more year and then off she goes to MU.

2: Sahar Biniaz

Age: 26 | Height: 5’8″
Hometown: Vancouver, BC
This is the main favorite to win, an all around great girl and a surefire MU semi-finalist, if it were not for Dajana's megawatt smile... She would be the Canadian version of Tahnae Harisson if she loses.

1: Dajana Radovanovic

Age: 20 | Height: 5’9″
Hometown: Toronto, ON
Wow with a capital W! Amazing body and a megawatt smile, add to that one of the best gowns in there and pleasant, easy going personality. My choice for that crown.

Why haven't we heard from Chelsae since Miss Universe? Why are there no posts on the MUC FB page since September?

Why haven't we heard anything from Riza since Miss World? Why are the only updates on their FB page posts trying to get delegates for their upcoming pageant? Where are the posts about her appearances and updates????

Why is it that no one knows anything about the Miss Canada TM pageant, their FB page is ...non existent???? lol

MCI titleholders are the only ones who consistently make appearances throughout the year, they do charity work, fashion shows, volunteer work etc. If it gets posted on FB whatever... it doesn't make or break the titleholders year.
Appearances wax and wane throughout the year. There are weeks when she will may do 4 appearances in a day then nothing for a month.

I cannot believe the whining about the lack of attention on Anna, or about updates on her appearances. Focusing on the negative or what negative you can create. Even if she doesn't make another appearance for the rest of the year, and not one more post on FB or twitter is made about her....she will still have made more appearances, done more charity work and been more of an ambassador to Canada than any other current titleholder. It's not like she has vanished into the Bermuda Triangle!

Lets give credit where credit is due and congratulate Anna on what she HAS accomplished so far and stop dwelling on what you think she may be missing. She is in her hometown right now, working on her Teddy Bears of Hope campaign, which is from what I understand from her is going quite well.

Remember she still has half a year left to reign. These girls are not on the road 24/7 making appearances! This is a very 'down' time of the year as far as requests for appearances go, first there was Christmas, now its the after Christmas pinch, head office is in the midst of delegate selections for the 2013 pageant, things are just gearing up for 2012 and this negativity does not help!

Can you imagine her reading this board and start to question herself as a titleholder based on your remarks? What that might do to her self esteem? Think before you try to create something that is going to hurt one of the girls!!!! Come at ME with both barrels loaded by all means, but stop starting stuff that will ultimately do nothing but hurt the girls!

I have repeatedly posted my email address and yet you won't communicate with me via e-mail, which leads me to conclude your only intent is to create drama and has nothing whatsoever to do with following Anna and more to do with causing unjustified controversy with MCI.

Soooooo...in conclusion, I wont be dignifying any more anonymous whining with a response on here. If you have a question, email me!

TORONTO - The spotlight was on transgender contestant Jenna Talackova as the Miss Universe Canada pageant kicked off in Toronto Thursday night.

The 62 contestants took to the stage for the preliminary round in swimsuits and evening gowns.

Talackova was originally disqualified from the contest because she was not a "naturally born female."

The 23-year-old from Vancouver, who underwent gender reassignment surgery when she was 19, was then reinstated by businessman Donald Trump, who owns the Miss Universe organization.

The winner will be crowned Saturday.

Subject: MISS UNIVERSE CANADA 2012 FINAL PREDICTIONS

Date Posted: 12:58:11 04/19/12 Thu

On May 19th, a new woman (or not-LOL!) will succeed Chelsae Durocher as Canada’s representative to the Miss Universe Pageant in December of this year. This year’s line up is not as strong as previous years, but there are definitely some stand outs vying to be Canada’s next ambassador of Beauty. In all honesty, I already have my personal favorites and I hope that they do very well in this year’s competition. This year’s pageant consists of former competitors, newbies, experienced ladies and of course, the controversial delegate that has made headlines internationally, even changing the criteria of the Miss Universe regulations. Am I looking forward to this show? HELL YAH! This is going to be one year, where I think we will all be surprised. All I can say is that I hope that the rightful woman is chosen to represent the beauty and the diversity that Canada has to offer. With that being said, here’s my Top 5, based on what I know, who’s deserving and pageant politics.

ADWOA YAMOAH
In all honesty, I believe that Adwoa deserves a spot in the final 5. Although, she has competed numerous times in the past, I think that this year she’s probably going to be very well prepared and looking her very best. She’s made the Top 10 (I think) two times, and this year I think she’ll definitely be in final 5. I don’t think she will win this year, but who knows what the judges are looking for.

KATIE STARKE
Being a former Miss Teen World Canada, competing at Beauties of Canada 2010, and representing the country at Miss International, Katie is ready to take the Universe by storm. As regal and improved as she has become, I think she needs a couple more years to really blossom. I find that she’s channelling Elena Semikina in so many of her photos and I want to see a different type of beauty represented. As well, Katie’s personality seems a little subdued, but I’m not going to lie, she is maturing beautifully. I’m pretty sure that she’s preparing like crazy because like so many, she also wants this crown. And to be honest, it could very well be hers, considering the fact that she hails from Ontario. If we look at the past 10 years, the rep has been from the east coast. If there is anyone that’s going to win the title from that side of Canada, it’s a shoo-in for Katie Starke.

JENNA TALACKOVA
Jenna represents controversy with a capital “C”. I’m not a big fan of Jenna Talackova. If I’m being honest, I have absolutely NOTHING against a transgendered woman competing in a beauty pageant. Being a gay male, I support anyone who decides to persevere against all odds, but only if it were for the right intentions. However, when the issues of discrimination came up, I was sort of confused. Just two years ago, she had competed in some Transgendered Beauty Pageant, hoping to be the best “transgendered” delegate in the world, and now she wants to compete at Miss Universe to become the most beautiful woman in the world? If she had classified herself as a woman to begin with, she wouldn’t have even bothered vying for the transgendered beauty queen title, and would’ve immediately went straight to Miss Universe Canada, if she were wanting compete to represent WOMEN. I just don’t get why she decided to do this now. It makes me wonder, if she really wanted to compete to be the most beautiful woman, or if this is all just a publicity stunt to get her 15 minutes of fame? Nonetheless, I know that Jenna will make the Top 5 at Miss Canada so that the pageant gains some popularity. But personally, I don’t think that Jenna should win the title, regardless. She may be tall, she may be a pretty delegate, but I’m just not buying her sincerity, or lack thereof, of the whole issue.

MISS UNIVERSE CANADA CHOICES:
SAHAR BINIAZ
My winner back in 2008 (against Samantha Tajik), I’m very happy to see that Sahar is back in the pageant scene giving it another go. Today, she still embodies the ferocity, the beauty and the elegance to make an impact at Miss Universe Canada this year. She’s lean, she’s poised and seems to be a really genuine person. I had the opportunity to have dessert with Miss Biniaz, a few evenings ago, and she’s a lovely person to converse with. Aside from that, she is very prepared to bring Canada back to the semis, if she is the lucky one who gets to wear the crown. I have no doubt in my mind that we will see Sahar as one of the last ladies standing.

SUZETTE HERNANDEZ
What can I say about Suzette? This girl is awesome! I would consider her to be a well-seasoned pageant competitor and she’s also one of the strongest choices for the title. Not only is Suzette fabulously exotic, she has such an amazing personality to back up her charm. Being a runway model, and having competed in previous pageants as well, Suzette has pretty much everything it takes to break into the semis at Miss Universe this year. Being a fan and admirer, Suzette is more than prepared to win this title, as she lives, breathes and acts like a pageant titleholder. Watch out for this girl, because she’s also ready to take it all. I have a gut feeling that Suzette and Sahar will be the last ones standing…….AND they’re both from Vancouver!

Now given Beauties of Canada’s Track record since 2007 (with the exception of 2010), the final two standing are usually from the East and the West.
2007: Inga Skaya (E), Ramona Amiri (W)
2008: Samantha Tajik (E), Sahar Biniaz (W)
2009: Mariana Valente (E), Ylenia Aurucci (W)
2011: Chelsae Durocher (E), Elishia Sahota (W)

Within the last 10 years, a winner from the East has been crowned, so it’s highly anticipated that a west-sider takes the title this year. The frontrunners in my opinion are Sahar and Suzette…..and Jenna.

Comprising my remaining Top 15 (in no particular order) are:

Alina Tsymbalarou
Marta Jablonska
Anna Piatrovich
Ines Kipre
Majd Soudi
Dajana Radanovic
Lisa Wong
Maria Nahri
Sarah Harrison
Diana Schoutsen
Kesiah Papasin
Alena Konovalova
Stephanie Marinus
Christine White
Natka Brestovanska

So there you have it. Since I will not be following the pageant thoroughly, this is my final predictions list. I’m hoping for the best and I can’t wait to see who will be representing Canada at the Miss Universe Pageant in May. I can only hope that the woman that is chosen will best reflect what Canada is all about, in terms of multiculturalism, diversity and of course, the traditional values of what Canada stands for. I wish all the girls, the best of luck and I hope that whoever garners this title, will bring Canada back to its glory years at Miss Universe that was started almost 13 years ago, by Alberta’s, Kim Yee.

no idea if she quit (wouldn't blame her, all the headaches and hassle of dealing with such an unprofessional organization for a lousy $1000 scholarship that may not ever get paid out lol)
but if they dethroned her...i can tell you she has done NOTHING wrong. complied with every ridiculous and lame demand of the 'organization' who responded by treating her like shit and telling directors she was mentally unstable. yes...thats what they tell ppl about their titleholder.
and they are still in business??????

IN FOCUS WITH SUZETTE HERNANDEZ: THE QUEST TO MISS UNIVERSE CANADA 2012
By Andrew Alcalde

One glance at Suzette Hernandez and you are taken in by her beautiful eyes, million dollar smile and lovely personality; you are mesmerized. Her beauty has the ability to effortlessly take you in and fully engage in her aura.

Why does she look familiar, you ask? Well, Suzette has loads of experience previously competing in pageants in the Philippines. Suzette was the first runner up in Mutya Ng Pilipinas 2010. A year later, she became an official delegate for Binibining Pilipinas 2011, where she was trained by the amazing Maria Venus Raj (4th Runner Up, Miss Universe 2010) and alongside eventual winner, Shamcey Supsup (3rd Runner Up, Miss Universe 2011). But don’t be fooled! Suzette is a true blooded, all-Canadian-girl, at heart. Having gotten to know her over the past year, I can tell you that she represents everything that Canada is all about. She loves her hockey, enjoys her Tim Horton’s donuts and is “blasphemized” when someone uses Aunt Jemima on their pancakes over Canadian maple syrup. If that’s not Canadian, I don’t know what is!

Having emigrated from Lemery, Batangas at a very young age, Suzette grew up Richmond, BC. She completed her high school education at Gladstone and continues to strive for her degree in business at the University of British Columbia. When she’s not hitting the books, she’s hitting the runway as a freelance ramp-model. Suzette has modelled for Vancouver Fashion Week, every year since 2007, with the exception of this year so that she could focus on the Miss Universe Canada Competition. In her owns words, she is ready to represent the true diversity of Canada in addition to highlighting her proudly Pinoy roots. Many of you will remember Suzette as Candidate #35 at Binibining Pilipinas 2011. Well, Suzette looks at that experience as a stepping stone into the woman she has become today. Competing at Binibining Pilipinas was an experience that opened her eyes to self-evolution and betterment and is completely aware of what she needs to do, this time around. As you can see, Suzette has been training for this to the best of her ability, and damn! It shows!

In addition to her preparation, Suzette has always been well rounded in philanthropy, volunteering her time with fundraisers such as Habitat for Humanity, Dress for Success Vancouver and The Batangas Club of British Columbia throughout the years. More recently, Suzette had organized a successful “Fashion Charity Show” fundraising proceeds to the SOS Children’s Villages Nicaragua with a very successful outcome. At the end of the day, Suzette’s ambition is to continue to use her positive influence within her community and hopefully, if fortunate to be crowned MUC 2012, empower and make a difference in this world.

So why do I feel that Suzette is the ideal candidate to represent Miss Universe Canada 2012? In my honest opinion, I feel that a titleholder should embody not only the natural beauty, intelligence and the physicality of a well groomed, versatile “beauty queen”, but she must also possess a genuine and REAL personality. Time and time again, we’ve seen delegates represent their countries, or better yet, themselves, and come across as completely fake personified. The best qualities that any competitor should possess is a strong sense of confidence, focus, morality and sincerity. That is what makes her stand out from the rest of the competition. I’m not going to lie, beauty plays the most important role in a pageant , hence the title “beauty pageant” but add the above mentioned qualities and you have yourself a true winner.

From my perspective, Suzette undoubtedly embodies these qualities and much, much more. Through the eyes of her family and friends, she has EVERYTHING IT TAKES to be your next Miss Universe Canada, and she is more than prepared to do her best this coming Sunday, May 19th. I have no problems standing behind Suzette as her number one supporter, because I know how much this means to her. She really is a woman of substance and it is evident in everything she does in her life. Suzette is motivated, determined and fully prepared to represent the Beauties of Canada Organization this year, if she is given that opportunity.

I asked her this question: How will you persevere throughout the Miss Universe Canada Pageant and distinguish yourself to conquer the overall title?

Suzette: I will persevere and distinguish myself throughout the pageant to conquer the title, simply by continuing to be the positive role model that I have been all of my life. I believe that hard work and determination always pays off and in this case, I have been working very hard to prepare for this pageant. Canada, I am ready to demand that attention you so rightfully deserve and bring us back to the Miss Universe stage, if given this remarkable opportunity!

Winning answer, I must say

In conclusion, I just wanted to share with you why I believe in her so much. We all have our favorites for the title and everyone here will be bias to their opinions. I am proud to say that Suzette happens to be mine! She truly is someone that I can see making everyone in her life proud (regardless of whether or not she wins the title), but above all, bringing our country back to the Miss Universe semi-finals. In a bevy of exotic beauties competing at the pageant this year, Suzette will definitely stand out at the International level. Suze (as I call her), is more than ready to compete at MUC and once you see her in motion, you’ll “get it”.

Suzette Hernandez is my number one choice, she is my Miss Universe Canada 2012.

Subject: So I have been getting asked a lot lately why I quit….and why I stayed so long in the first place.

Author:
Christi
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 16:47:29 04/23/12 Mon

The answer is simple. I stayed and backed MCI and Sylvia for so long because A) I believed in what she was trying to accomplish and B) because I thought she was always honest with me (although now I have doubts). I always said I would stay until I felt that I was being misled or lied to and that is exactly what happened. Her boyfriend/business partner admitted to some activities that were an attempt at a direct sabotage of a competitor pageant. Unfortunately for him, he was completely wrong in his thought process so it didn’t work out for him, but the tactics he used to try to hurt someone else’s business showed me #1 he didn’t have faith in MCI’s ability to make it on its own merits, #2 he can’t be trusted and #3 he is not a decent human being and he lies very, very easily....and holy immature!!!!!
I feel I need to acknowledge where I was coming from in defending MCI and Sylvia for all these years, and a huge part of it was the negative ‘news’ articles that could be easily explained away. Every one of them was based on misinformation and media slant to vilify Sylvia using the wrong information or outright lies. It is easy to defend someone who is being lied about in the press. If the press would have just gotten their stories straight it wouldn’t have been so easy for her to convince myself and others that she was a victim of bad press and never really did anything wrong.
Press Lie #1 Helena Guergis sued Sylvia. Heather Davidson sued Miss Huronia Inc. in small claims court. Miss Huronia Inc. was a company Sylvia created, but Sylvia was never sued personally. Sylvia lost the case and Heather was awarded $500. Miss Huronia Inc. went bankrupt before Heather could collect and before Helena could file her suit. So when the press continually states that Sylvia was sued by Helena Guergis, it’s just a big fat lie to create interest because people know who Helena Guergis is, no one knows who Heather Davidson is.

Press Lie #2 Sylvia Assaulted a Teen Titleholder
I was not there when this supposedly happened but there was a bus full of delegates and not one girl witnessed Sylvia do anything. There were no police involved, no charges were filed, nothing….but the press ran stories about the ‘alleged’ assault, which didn’t take place….laying the groundwork for the organization to convince ppl that the press was just out to get her.

Press Lie #3 Girls suing MCI
Then there was the divorced single mother from Vaughn who went running to the press when she was denied entry into MCI after winning a local pageant (that was not in the control of MCI). She ran to the press talking about how she was going to sue MCI etc. etc. etc. when in reality she didn’t qualify for MCI and was simply told no. Her local pageant was to blame for allowing her in to their local, not MCI. Going to the press created a buzz again and some other disgruntled formers got together and told the press they were suing Sylvia….a lawsuit NEVER happened. They talked about it. They had a press conference, but a lawsuit never took place. I don’t even think they could find a lawyer to take the case and a few months later one of the girls involved got arrested for staging her own kidnapping, then breached probation to go to Disney lol. So bad reporting once again paved the way for Sylvia to look like the victim of bad press.

Press Lie #4 Miss PEI
A few years back, MCI contacted a pageant that was being run in Australia called Miss Teen WorldWide or something along that line. They were given the directorship by the international director, a guy named Gavin Dooley, who assured them that they were the only people sending from Canada and they were the national directors for Canada. This question came up in more than a few e-mails and every time he reassured them that they were the directors for Canada. Although MCI did not pay the fee right away, and were working to get sponsorship, they were still under the impression they were sending the Canadian delegate. Then all of a sudden another pageant laid claim to the Canadian directorship, awarded the title to a girl they were sending and went to the press, as any pageant would do when sending internationally. Then the confusion started. The girl MCI was sending didn't know what was going on, MCI didn't know what was going on and the new girl didn't know what was going on and the new directors didn't know there had already been a directorship awarded to someone else. The press of course ran with the story of Sylvia lied....when in fact the international pageant lied to both Sylvia and the new directors and the press. Their response to MCI was that they could do whatever they wanted because MCI hadn’t paid the fee yet...even though in more than 1 e-mail they stated that they had not even talked to anyone else from Canada. So the international pageant threw her under the bus BUT Sylvia did not show the press the proof that she had from the international pageant. Her 'no comment' stance has been a huge downfall, if you are not going to defend yourself how is anyone going to know the other side or....as the public sees it....no comment means 'I screwed up and I’m not going to talk about it'. So again the press prints a false story and she can claim to be the victim of bad press and a witch hunt.

Press Lie #5 Miss Teen NS
The teen from NS who went to the press a couple years ago claiming the pageant was cancelled and that she was then disqualified because of her age and wanted her money back, also claiming that she thought Teddy Bears of Hope was a charity and that she had collected bears that TBoH didn't want....just a total pack of lies. The pageant was postponed from its set date of October 2010, at the time it was postponed there were not enough delegates entered to run a pageant; I believe the number was less than 5. MCI had no choice but to cancel or postpone and they went with postpone to at least allow the girls who had entered the opportunity to compete the following year. Due to the fact the NS delegate turned 19 prior to the new date which would put her into the Miss division rather than the Teen division, she was given the option to compete as a Teen or a Miss, it was entirely her choice and she was never ever told she was not qualified, special circumstances called for special handling of the divisions. From the beginning, before the girl even sent in her entry application forms, long before a single penny was sent in, I personally had a discussion with her via Facebook, so I have transcripts to back this, regarding the status of TBoH and if it was or was not a charity. She was told and she acknowledged that she understood that it was not a charity and that there would be no receipts, people could not claim anything on income tax etc. She was also told that she had to fundraise for her entry fee and we discussed on a few occasions a fundraising dinner she was holding, the funds to go towards Teddy Bears of Hope, as required for her participation in the pageant. People came to her fundraisers and donated to Teddy Bears of Hope, she used the TBoH logo, and she promoted the TBoH platform. The funds raised were earmarked for TBoH. When the pageant was postponed and she decided she no longer wanted to participate she asked for the funds that she had raised through her community for Teddy Bears of Hope, to be returned to HER. MCI said no, so she ran straight to the press thinking she could force a refund....the money was not hers in the first place! Charity or not, it was raised for TBoH not her personally. The lame news story did not go into any detail regarding the police investigation of her and funds that were not turned over, or the teddy bears that she was made to turn over by the police and once again in the press Sylvia was vilified based on a story that was complete fabrication....and once again she was able to claim to be the victim of bad press and the Sylvia Witch Hunt.

There have been other controversies that have been ‘reported’ on by the press but done in such a way that if you are the least bit versed on pageants, which the general public is not, you would take her side on them. A girl from BC was married yet signed an affidavit stating she was single….she said Sylvia told her to lie….Sylvia denied it. It was all ‘she said/she said’, yet one person signed an affidavit, a legal document, in which she lied, so who looks like the person telling the truth? Another girl threw a fit in the press because she said she didn’t qualify for MCI because she was too old for Miss World. One had nothing to do with the other, but the press ran with it, and again left people who understood how pageants work rolling their eyes. The press even reported that the girls sued Sylvia and MCI and this never happened! The girl was still 100% eligible to compete and win at MCI she just would not have gone on to Miss World if she had of won, but the press again made it look like a witch hunt and gave more room for Sylvia to defend herself and look like a victim of bad press. Other girls dropped out of the pageant one year claiming they were not being fed or treated fairly; one of the girls was sponsored by her boss who took her to small claims court for the money he spent back. In court under oath, she testified that she was having fun, that she was being fed and well cared for but was pressured by a chaperone to quit with 2 other girls. She ended up having to pay her boss back the money he had sponsored her because there was no reason for her to have dropped out in the first place....that never made the press at all !

If the press would spend some time doing some actual investigative journalism instead of slapping a story together without researching or corroborating anything they may have some REAL facts to present and some REAL stories to tell. How about a story about 100, 000 bears sitting in storage instead of being shipped to Africa as promised.

Since the inception of Teddy Bears of Hope, which in and of itself is a cute concept, the pageant has taken a downward turn. Directors have all quit, and there is almost no interest in the pageant from delegates or sponsors. Delegate selection is always left until so late in the year and it is haphazard to say the least. In 2010 the pageant was originally slated for October and we were recruiting in August!!!!! I felt like I was constantly motivating someone who didn’t want to be motivated and then at the last minute, a bunch of girls would get accepted and none of them would pay because it was such short notice, so they would get in for discounted rates or free and then the pageant was being left in dire financial straits. Instead of countering this activity by recruiting delegates earlier and using better tactics to do so, the same scenario was repeated year after year. Instead of looking at correcting the mistakes and procrastination, fingers were pointed at everyone and everything else instead of at the person responsible for the actual delegate recruiting, and that is the CEO herself. She was letting herself and MCI down; no one else was responsible for the failures at delegate recruiting. That is the number one ‘failure’ of MCI and without delegates you don’t have a pageant! Or you have a pageant and are left with tens of thousands of dollars of debt and delegates are not given a quality experience which has been the case for MCI for the past few years. MCI teeters on the edge of bankruptcy, all I heard the last night I was there was how much in debt they were and all she wanted to do was close the company and then she would talk about starting it all up again under a new name…..woah!! That’s just wrong on SOOOO many levels!!
Instead of recruiting and being forthright with delegates, I found there to be more and more shady practices regarding cutting other pageants down blaming them for ‘stealing’ delegates (um, no one ‘owns’ these girls!) and simple misrepresentation of the truth about MCI and its history and background. Last summer when I was still managing the website, Sylvia’s boyfriend and new partner ‘director of operations’, Richard called me and told me to add the words ‘The Original’ to the website. I flat out refused and told him that I would resign before I would allow myself to be a part of something so misleading. His argument was that MCI is the Original Miss Canada International….knowing full well that it was actually misleading people who don't understand the concept of how titles work and they would think that ‘The Original’ meant they were The Original Miss Canada which we all know it is not. We argued about it at length and in the end I prevailed and I thought I had talked some sense into him. Apparently I had not though, since the website now claims that MCI and MTCI are ‘The Original’. This was done after I quit…I did NOT add that to the site and it was NOT on there when it was hosted with the company who redid the site last summer.
The website is another issue. I had talked a close friend of mine into creating and donating a new website, a site worth at minimum $20,000 which he designed, hosted and donated at my request. He even gave deeply discounted hosting rates and instead of paying the hosting fees, MCI switched companies and never gave them a cent …that was the thanks they got for their $20,000 donation! That is how they treat sponsors yet complain that it's someone else’s fault when a sponsor is lost.
The constant misrepresentation of their titles is another hot button issue with me. I was forever editing and amending things to add in ‘International’ to titles. If you look on their Facebook fan pages, it’s all over the place Miss Teen Canada….and guess what…all she does is blame other people. ‘Oh I didn’t write that, the titleholder did', or 'her mother did’ or one of the other site admins, it’s never Sylvia! Well guess what, she is an admin and has the power to edit and make it right if that was the case….however I highly doubt the teen is misrepresenting her title when she is actually proud of it. The signs on cars in parades that she organizes are almost always missing the word ‘International’. Sponsors are misled to believe they are getting Miss Canada or Miss Teen Canada at an event or are donating a prize to, the word International is rarely even mentioned in most of the correspondence. People are fooled and she never corrects them.
So if you constantly misrepresent the titles then you must not be very proud of them and it begs the question, how do you expect to promote them to potential delegates if you are not proud of them and your brand? It also leads to the question of credibility in all other aspects.
The Teddy Bears of Hope is a great concept, so sweet that the teen titleholder came up with it…however it really does suck that Sylvia is running around taking full credit for it and claiming to be the founder….what about Amanda….the titleholder who’s idea it was in the first place? I mean it is absolutely awesome that the organization worked with her so hard to make it a reality and have continued the project, but shouldn’t credit be given where credit is due? The girl is barely given a mention! The real founder of TBoH is Amanda, not Sylvia and although she may be the one putting her heart and soul into it now, Amanda should always be recognized as the founder.
The Teddy Bears have gone to several different countries and collecting them with a toonie makes it easier for the delegates to raise the $4000 required to participate in MCI, but the way that the program is being presented to delegates and to the ppl who donate to the program, is again, misleading.
In 2009 delegates were told to collect 2000 bears and 2000 toonies in order to participate in the pageant. Girls from all over Canada collected bears and brought them to the pageant. The premise of the bear coming from a child in Canada to be given to a child in an underdeveloped country who has nothing is very sweet. No one can say that there is not compassion behind the program, but the manner in which it is being implemented is in my opinion, less than honest, a grey area bordering on a clear breach of the law.
The delegates and benefactors are told that the toonie that is being collected is for cleaning, shipping and storage. However, in 2009 the delegates had to bring the bears to Toronto on their own dime! They were responsible for shipping the bears they had collected, to Toronto. They could not use any of the $4000 they had raised to pay for shipping the bears to Toronto either, they had to raise additional funds or pay for it themselves. They were told the toonies they collected were for shipping the bears to Africa, not from their hometowns to Toronto.
Well, those bears, almost 100,000 of them, STILL sit in a storage locker in Ontario (they did as of the day I quit in February 2012). A storage locker that according to Sylvia herself is being donated to TBoH! The bears are not cleaned, they are sorted and the dirty, ratty ones go in the garbage and the good ones are stored for future shipments, but none have been shipped since the Canadian Armed Forces took them to Afghanistan in 2007. Bridget did pass out some toys when she went to India. However the trip was sponsored and paid for by someone in India who brought several titleholders from all across the world to India for a promotion. It was not a TBoH trip, TBoH piggybacked onto that trip. Children did benefit and received toys, but it was not sponsored for or paid by TBoH or any of the toonies that were collected. This information came from Sylvia herself; she is the one who told me that the trip was sponsored by this Indian person and how great it was that it was not costing MCI anything.
MCI also held a yard sale and sold some of the toys in 2010. These toys were donated for other children, not to sell to pay the debts of MCI! This in itself makes the entire program, the premise of TBoH a big fat lie. Even if they only sold 1 bear, it made everything that happened up to that point a lie. The bears do not belong to MCI, Sylvia or TBoH, anymore than they belong to the girls who collected them. They belong to the children in the orphanages in Africa that we are being told they are being sent to.
So if the bears are sitting in a free storage locker, and are not being cleaned and are not being shipped to Africa, what are the toonies really being collected for? The toonies are to pay for the pageant to take place. The pageant is in deep financial debt, the bears for Africa from 2009 are still in Ontario and they are starting to collect bears for Haiti under the same plan, $2 with each bear to pay for cleaning, storage and shipping, all things they are not currently spending the money on. They even have a transport company willing to bring the bears from across Canada to Toronto. The justification for this is that the pageant crowns a winner to become the spokesperson for TBoH, which is fine, but none of the money that the girls are collecting from their communities is going for what they’re being told it is going for and that is just wrong! Just charge an entry fee and stop misleading people with the thinly veiled ‘charitable cause’ fluff. The toonies are being used to pay for years of bad business decisions and debt incurred by MCI for the pageant and pageant related expenses.
There are so many issues that are misrepresentations which are just enough inside of the grey area to keep them out of legal trouble. The ‘scholarship’ of ‘up to $10,000.00’ is in reality only a $1000 scholarship. In the past there was no guaranteed amount, in 2011 a guaranteed amount was written into the winners contracts and it is $1000. The amount awarded is actually whatever Sylvia decides to give based on how much she likes the titleholder and how much she feels they deserve. Although she always blames the ‘committee’ for the decision on how much but there really was never a ‘committee’ just a bunch of volunteers that she cc’s on e-mails and the last and final word and decision was ALWAYS hers and always way less than recommended when she did ask for an opinion. No MCI or MTCI titleholder has ever received the full $10,000.00 amount and a few of them have not received anything at all. This is going back quite a few years too. At least 3 teens have not received a single cent in scholarship funds, even though they are all going to or have completed college or university. 2 of the Miss have not received their entire scholarship they were promised and 3 have not received anything at all even though they also have completed or are going to college of university. All of the girls who are coming in expecting a $10,000 scholarship are all being misled by the wording of the scholarship commitment. The girls who are still owed scholarships….how can they ever expect to get paid off when the organization goes further and further into debt each year? The bad part is that they continue to promote and ‘produce’ the pageant….and claim the scholarship is being held in trust….there is no trust fund, if there were the scholarships would be paid and no one would be owed anything. The money goes into the general MCI bank account and is spent on MCI expenses, which is why the scholarships have not been paid, because there is simply no money.
They also claim to be the only scholarship based pageant yet both Miss Canada Globe, the biggest scam in pageantry, who I hate with every part of my being, gives a cash scholarship …cash meaning the winner can use it however she wants…..Miss Teen Canada World gives a cash scholarship….again cash so the girl can use it however she wants and as well a bursary for an optional category, so scholarships can be won by more than just the titleholder. Clearly MCI is not the ONLY one and they are not the first to do it either, the REAL original Miss Canada and Miss Teen Canada did that, but they mislead people with that statement or tell prospective delegates that the other pageants scholarships are for modeling or make up classes not real school, which is completely false.
I think my biggest peeve of this year is the treatment of the titleholders. Without going in to specifics, as much as I tried to protect one of the girls from realizing that her reign is not what it should be to protect her feelings, there is no denying that there is unbridled favoritism with the titleholders this year and in retrospect there is every year. Sylvia simply cannot get along with both the teen and the miss at the same time or in the same year. She has wanted to dethrone the last 3 Miss and 2 of the last 3 Teens just because she didn’t like them at various points of their reigns....and that goes for both the current Miss and the current Teen as well. Miraculously at the end she ‘loves them like daughters’ but the whole year she complained about how unprofessional and ungrateful they were and how dare they… blah blah blah. Clear jealousy over attention, prizes and treatment of the titleholder by the public over her gave her cause to become hateful towards each of them. Not necessarily to their faces, I am talking about long drawn out conversations with me on the phone. One of the reasons I became ‘liaison’ was to keep the peace so that she didn’t dethrone every girl she crowned! Every time I called a titleholder or e-mailed them a friendly ‘how are things, is there anything you need to or want to talk about I am always here for you’ e-mail it was because I had just received a phone call from Sylvia that the girl was about to be dethroned for one reason or another, and NONE of them were valid or rational reasons.
I got tired of being the only one in the organization to have a conscience, of feeling like I was the only one to actually give a crap about the feelings of the girls beyond the title. It felt more and more like delegates and titleholders alike were nothing more than an avenue for her to continue MCI in hopes that one day it will be this big spectacular amazing pageant that it will never be. It had potential when they had the Miss World directorship, but that fell apart too and they will never get it back, they will never rival Miss Canada Universe, or Miss Teen Canada World. They will never be ‘the most prestigious’ pageant in Canada, they will never be respected among the pageant community simply because they refuse to be forthcoming, honest and transparent.
It is a shame because like I said there was potential, the idea of MCI and MTCI and TBoH are all good ideas, they are just all being so badly mis-handled that it will eventually be its own undoing.
I am a huge pageant supporter but I am a huge supporter in honesty! The reason I do this is not for glory, or because I missed the chance for myself or because I want or get something out of it…I did this for 15 years for FREE. Everything I did was as a volunteer, I used my own money to fund trips to Toronto, pitching in here and there when needed with little things….because I love what pageantry does for the girls who participate. I love seeing a shy young girl blossom into a strong confident young woman over the period of a couple of weeks. I am amazed at the transformations during pageant week and their reigns and I deeply cherish the lifelong friends I have made. I love that girls still call me for advice or to chat and I love being their mentor or just someone to talk to when they aren’t sure who else to talk to. I will always be involved in pageantry in some aspect but I will never again support MCI MTCI or Teddy Bears of Hope and I will never encourage anyone else to participate. I won’t go out of my way to tell them not to…..but I sure as heck won’t recommend it to anyone LOL
I wanted to leave on a professional note but every day I think of the girls who want to participate and think they are getting into something amazing and they are being fooled and I just can't sit by and let other girls have their dreams turn into a nightmare. There are some good sweet honest hardworking young ladies out there who really do want to make a difference, there are so many other paths to take that can really make a difference, I just don't think MCI/MTCI/TBoH is the right one for most of them.
What sucks the absolute most of all of this is that for 15 years, someone whom I considered my friend is gone from my life for good. She was someone I had great times with, shared a lot of laughs, my god we would laugh until we cried sometimes. She seemed so genuine in those moments, like a good person, with a big heart. We would talk about her aging mom whom she is so close to, her personal life, things real girlfriends share, but the other things have overshadowed that and I look back now and wonder about the entire friendship. In retrospect it seems almost like there were 2 Sylvia’s, one was my friend and the other one ran a pageant, would say or do anything to achieve her goals….including being less than honest with me…and that I can’t forgive or forget.

Brockville's Danielle Murphy is competing for her second time in the Miss Universe Canada pageant coming up in May. This time around Murphy hopes to meet every contestant and be more confident on the stage.

Second try at crown for local beauty
By MEGAN BURKE The Recorder and Times

She wanted it even more after being sent home.

Brockville's Danielle Murphy, 21, is heading back for a second time to compete for the crown in the 2012 Miss Universe Canada pageant.

“When I was done and came home last year I just wanted to keep striving,” said Murphy, who recently graduated from Algonquin College.

“When I came home, I wanted it even more.”

Murphy took part in the 2011 pageant, ending her run following the preliminary round. Out of all the women who competed last year, only Murphy, and possibly one contestant from the Vancouver area, will return to try again.

Because of her past experience, she did not have to go through the rounds of interviews and was granted a pass to the finals.

“I know what I want to do better this year and improve on so I hope I can get to a better spot, we'll see,” Murphy said. “I want to be more confident on stage. Last year I was very nervous and my nerves were getting to me.”

A regret from competing last year for Murphy was not having the chance to meet everyone in the pageant – something she will make sure of this year.

“I want to embrace everything we're doing. If I come home with that I'll be happy. I'm happy already just to be able to experience it again,” she said, adding that ultimately her goal is to win.

With Murphy all the way is her supportive family who also attended the pageant last year.

“They loved going last year, especially my brother. He liked seeing all the other girls. My boyfriend's family was also very supportive.”

This year they remain in her corner having helped her find her pageant dress. Murphy didn't initially know what she was looking for in a gown but lucked out – her mom and boyfriend's mom picked the winner, even though Murphy said no to it at first glance.

“When I was in the changeroom they brought it to me. When I put it on I fell in love with it and wouldn't try on anything else.”

Her dress will be revealed during the pageant which takes place in the middle of May.

Coming out of the pageant last year, Murphy was contacted by top modelling agency MMG Canada who signed her to a contract. She has since been working on projects with them.

Other than the competition, Murphy returns for the charity aspect of the pageant as well, hoping she can work with the SOS Children's Fund for another year. This past weekend Murphy held a rock concert fundraiser in downtown Ottawa for the charity.

As with last year, Murphy is looking for her city's support to win the People's Choice Award, which would automatically send her to the top 20 finals. A person can vote for Murphy up to four times daily online at www.beautiesofcanada.com.

Murphy leaves for Toronto on May 11 to prepare. Preliminary competition runs May 17 with the finals scheduled for May 19.

I was not allowed to enter as the organization told me they were only accepting 20 entrants. I also found a press release online saying one of the finalists was honoured to be in the selected "20 finalists". Well I see there are 30 entrants now on their website. I wish they could just be honest with girls as opposed to being deceitful. They told me the entrance fee was $3000 but some of the girls I know who enquired were told $995, others paid $1495. One of my friends is going and they put her age as 23 when she is 25.

I just triped over the MUC 2004 pageant on YouTube - Here is the link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhP-pAhb8mM. I just have to say that production was the best MUC ever produced. We had Alan as the MC, A Miss Universe Appearance and the stage was incredible!

No only that, they had a welcome dinner with a stage that welcomed all the contestants one by one, really seemed as high caliber as Miss USA!

The last few years i dont think has the same quality in stage & production. I think the pageant itself is great! Just wish we had more glitz and glam!!

What do you guys think???

Subject: How is Miss Canada Globe still in 'business'???

Ok so besides the obvious issue that the director is a man who dresses and pretends she is a woman, pretends to have held titles he has never won and girls are dethroned and replaced every year, has anyone noticed anything strange about the newest version of the website? For example Mias (according to past versions of the website) was the first Miss Canada Globe crowned (and we all know this is not true, he bought himself a crown and sash and gave himself the title)…yet there are now 2 titleholders on the page listed as 2000 and 2001…AND this is the funny part, Miss Canada Globe 2001, Lillian Adessa, take your mouse and hover over her photo and see the tag that identifies the picture…it says ‘Lillian Pinsky’…interesting in itself that the names don’t match but if you plug the name Lillian Pinsky into facebook, you get the page of Lillian Pinsky, and it is the exact same photo as on the Miss Canada Globe page (now that Mias little screw up is public, it won’t be long before its changed, but I have it saved so he cant pretend it didn’t happen lol)…Lillian Pinsky graduated high school in 2010, which would put her at about 9 years old when she apparently held the title of Miss Canada Globe 2001…awesome!!! Also, Lillian Pinsky, according to her, has never entered a pageant, so the use of her photo is extremely interesting. I am not 100% sure of who the girl Mias has pretending to be Miss Canada Globe 2000 is but I do know its not Linda Strauss from Grande Prairie…and neither of those girls were delegates at Miss Globe International, and neither was Mias (it’s a girl pageant not a boy pageant!!)

So then the first real titleholder is Jessica Thibault, Miss Canada Globe 2004/2005, but there is no mention of 2003/2004…because there wasn’t one. Well there was, but she wasn’t a ‘Miss Canada Globe productions’ titleholder. Miss Canada Globe 2003 was Shenna Aperocho, selected by the now non-existent Miss International Canada. Shenna had no connection to Miss Canada Globe (lucky for her) and the first girl that Miss Canada Globe actually sent to the Miss Globe pageant was Jessica Thibault in 2005.

It would be hard to explain why Shenna Aperocho was Miss Canada Globe 2003, through a different pageant system when Mias is claiming that Canada Globe Productions has been the director since 2000. heh

So now on to the ‘international pageants’…the Miss Globe they claim to be the director for is the Albanian version, however the Turkish version has all the information on them on their site, even tho none of the girls were at their pageant, and the pageant has a horrible reputation on the international scene…maybe they should be working together LOL. They claim to send girls to Miss Petite International and Miss Petite Intercontinental, neither of which exists anymore and haven’t existed in a while, like since 2006, yet this is a new page, and they are still listed as pageants they send to...its not odd its downright fraudulant. They send to Miss Teen Worldwide, but Miss Teen Worldwide begs other pageants to take over the directorship, but no one wants to bother with it because it is such a small pageant with next to no reputation, so they stay with Mias out of desperation for delegates.

If you do some simple online searches, you will find that none of the names are trademarked, none of them are registered, the pageant name, the company name, nothing and the little r he is using isn’t even used in Canada to denote a registered trademark and none of the titles or business name are registered in the usa either…soooo it really seems that Miss Canada Globe, Canada Globe Productions isn’t even a legitimate business. They also claim to be non-profit, again, a simple online search proves this a lie. They gave out receipts last year and when ppl tried to use them to claim on their taxes, they were told no by Revenue Canada, so Canada Globe told them they were a school (?????) and to submit the receipts as school tuitions and again Revenue Canada said no they are not a school…Canada Globe Productions is neither non-profit or a school, nor a registered corporation or trademarked names, yet they run a 'national' business taking money from girls and sponsors across Canada....once again, doesnt this seem like fraud? How are they still operating???

Are there any reputable Canadian pageants for women over 30? In my younger days I competed in a few pageants and really had fun. I'd like to get back into it but I don't want to waste my time with scams. Any suggestions?

Hi,
I want to sponsor a local contestant for the Miss Universe Canada pageant but have heard rumours that she is married. For obvious reasons I have not listed where I live because I do not want to spread these claims. I investigated and she is, but the marriage took place in the United States. She has shown me documentation proving that she is a delegate, but I am unsure if Miss Universe Canada is aware of this marriage, and if it is, if contestants are still qualified if the marriage took place outside Canada. Basically, I am want to know your opinion on whether I should sponsor her or if there is a risk she will be disqualified, thus making my contributions fruitless.
Thank you kindly,
Jennifer

Have you ever had a pair of shoes that you wore so much that you didn't even realize they were worn out and out of style? And one day you put them on and realize that they don't even fit you! So you think about buying a new pair of awesome shoes and you feel guilty about getting rid of the old ones but then you start looking back and wondering why you kept them in the first place, they pinched your feet, the heel kept breaking, they let your feet get wet, people always laughed at how bad of condition they were in...but you couldn't see it then because they were your favourite pair and you loved them.
Well, I think its time for a new pair of shoes!

Does Sylvia Stark have issues parting with her past delegate Bridget Nickerson? My goodness she was MCI for two years in a row and most recently she invited her to Vancouver (along with another 2 past delegates) and Anna Dell current Miss Canada International. I can't help being a little buzzed that MCI's facebook group has a photo of 3 past delegates without Anna Dell included. The other girls have had their moment, let Anna Dell have hers!!! I understand it is great to reflect on the past delegates that have made MCI what it is, but for the love of pete, when we have already seen a delegate for 2 years in a row, it's a bit exaughsted.

I'm now hearing things like its fraud and a scam.

I'm unemployed, and have already put 350 of my own dollars into it, and they require I pay another 450 by Mon.

I'm planning on getting sponsors to cover the 3000 fee - but now am second guessing! Someone please contact me?!

Miss Collegiate Canada and Miss High School Canada is currently looking for Directors from the the 10 Provinces and 3 Territories to send a representitive to the National Pagent.

Or if you are looking to enter this pageant fell free to contact them.

There has been some confusion with this pageant. Brenda is no longer a director for MCI. She has stepped down.

This is an Academic pageant. NO Swimsuit and no Talent needed. There are a lot of girls out there that do not feel comfortiable in a bathing suit and do not have a talent but are great girls, like to participate in pageants and have some great goals in life. We are looking for you.

So, I was contacted by this pageant to send a girl...although Miss Canada Globe claims to be their national director LOL...I said sure let me look into things and we'll work something out. I know they dont have the best reputation or track record on the international front and have 5 or 6 girls in their pageant annually, but they are a young pageant so I thought I would give them a chance, I am not one to take to listening to rumours, I am a free thinker and form my own opinions. I also have a great many contacts in Trinidad & Tobago which is the host country so I thought, great time to go and network and the girls would be safe if anything went weird because I would be there, so no harm, no foul right?

I asked for a directorship agreement, license contract, some sort of documentation that clarifies me as the director especially since MCG is claiming to be the director and I know that in the past this pageant has awarded national directorships to more than 1 person and caused a lot of grief (they blame everyone but themselves for this). They told me they couldn't send me anything until I sent them a name and photo of the delgate. Ok, well usually there is an agreement as to the directorship before the delegate is chosen however I sent them a name and photo, with the express instruction that it not appear on their website until documentation is in place and asked again for a contract, paperwork, something to show she was going to be the exclusive delegate and that the Canadian directorship would be exclusively mine...they said they can't provide it. What!?!?! Its your pageant but you cant provide an agreement to national directors? I asked for an entry form....they can't even provide that!!! Really????

They email everyone begging for delegates and this year the pageant is apparently free (the main reason I was following up with it lol) but they want $1500 from each person to come and participate (so they want directors to pay to chaperone their own girls...any decent pageant supplies chaperones and doesnt charge them!!!!) Last year it was $2000 USD but they postponed the pageant, they said it was due to the 'state of emergency in trinidad & tobago'....the state of emergency is limited to high crime areas and in direct relation to drug/gang activity...ummm where were they planning on taking these girls!?!?! i think its a convenient lie because they actually had no delegates entered. There are a bunch of pictures on their website (that looks like it was made by an 8 year old) but no names of delegates, no info on them, the photos could have come from anywhere and dont mean that the girls depicted were ever really registered!

This year they are claiming that the entry fee is free due to government sponsorship....but they won't tell me what branch of government is sponsoring it, nothing on the website either, if a government is sponsoring an event like this there will be a ton of press and a lot of media attention both good and bad, so I call BS on that too. There are too many red flags so I am pulling the plug on any sort of participation or connection to it. They can continue to deal with MCG since they both seem to be in the same category of lame and bogus pageants.

So be warned....if you are offered the chance to go to Miss Teen Worldwide....if I were you I would stay far away, there are far more legit and reputable pageants out there!

This website has been down since like November or something, they stated they were ‘hacked’ when a simple search showed that the domain name had in fact expired. They promised a new website was being built over the holidays, well not sure what holidays they were talking about because we are now at the end of February and still no website, there is just a photo of last years winners and nothing else. No contact info, let alone a date for the 2011 pageant, no information on how to enter, nothing. Last week even that page was down, and the page you were directed to stated that the page was removed due to ‘billing issues’. The single page is back up now but again no further information other than the photo of the girls from last year. Rumours all over the messageboards are that the Miss Galaxy pageant is not taking place this year. All sorts of rumblings about no date, no communication from the international pageant to directors, prizes, crowns, videos etc from last year have not been given out yet and we are 2 months into 2011. If the girls from 2010 prelims do not get to go to the 2011 pageant how will this reflect on the Canadian Galaxy group since it is one of the selling points for girls going into the pageant? If the Galaxy International pageant is defunct it goes without saying that the Canadian version will also be defunct, but would it not be the responsible thing to do to let people know so that they can make alternate arrangements to compete in other pageants if they want to compete in 2011? There are a few directors from Canada Galaxy that this affects also, if they are promising their winner to go to Miss Canada Galaxy and there is no Miss Canada Galaxy, it puts a lot of liability on the preliminary pageant directors. I know if I was a delegate paying to go into a prelim that promises the winner to go to a certain national pageant and the national pageant doesn’t take place I am going to be pretty pissed off and start asking for refunds since the selling point of the prelim is the national pageant. Its just really bad business and it affects people all the way down the line.

So I just noticed that Miss Canada Globe is charging people $1 to vote for the people's choice award. I've never seen this before and frankly, it seems a bit dodgy. Anyone know why they would choose to do this? Maybe the money is going to charity...any ideas?

In 2009 Kristen Jackson won Miss Teen Canada Galaxy. I attended the pageant, Witch was An Amazing Production. They Did have a Runner up named Tianna Baran, I thought she was amazing.. But it all comes down to the judges I guess. About A month later I had heard from a pass Canadian Title holder that Jackson had been Engaged and fairly Ill and would not be competing At the Miss Teen Galaxy Pageant. I had done some research and the young lady had not even passed the crown down to the next Teen title holder.. What is the point of having a runner up. Doesn't that mean that Baran should have competed and passed the crown down? I had speaked to Tianna Over Facebook and she was never informed or contacted to take her place in the Galaxy pageant.

So Miss Universe 2011, is pretty much just around the corner. With a little less than 35 countries left to be crowned....at this point of the game, we can already expect a FIERCE battle for the title.

Just in case, Chelsae reads this forum (I'm pretty sure she does), what would you suggest she start preparing herself for, in order to stand out in Sao Paulo?

Top 5 Things I Would Recommend:
1. Working on a balance between being sweet, outgoing and FIERCE!
2. Catwalk Walk Training
3. Speech & Interview Sessions
4. Toning and physical training
5. Distinguishing her game plan as to how she's going to stand out from the rest.

Chelsae, you are beautiful....show them what Canadians are made of! I want to see CANADA back in the semis!!!

So Went to prelims great show! Impressive. Natalie G Stunning, and i agree she does outshine the girls.... but in the girls defense she has had years of grooming and training. First of all the Stage was gorgeous very impressive. I was thinking how they were going to do it because I thought the stage was too small but it worked.... ( MTTC is closed this year for reno’s forcing MUC and myself to seek out another venue)
So my selection for the top 15 ( I only have 13 ) are
NO ORDER
Brooke Boyle, Celine LaFlamme - Danielle Murphy
Emily Kiss - Kim Savard -Linda Wang - Michelle Kwan
Sonia Judge - Chelsae Durocher -Victoria Volkova - Daena Pisio - Michelle De Sousa - Blerta Mahmuti

I also think Cristine is very beautiful but she seems not to care much, and I thought Valerie was cute but she was talking to herself on stage ( I was right up front) Literally mouthing stuff and it looked weird. Some of the girls are also much shorter than their listed height and I feel they are too short to make the cut. Lindsay – I believe if she was not on CNTM there would be no notice of her. She tripped on stage slouches and does strange poses and does not smile and I felt of out of shape. I thought Linda Wang was beautiful and so elegant had a great walk. Celine is stunning on stage. Sonia is also very beautiful nice figure. Danielle Murphy is very tall and looks beautiful on stage. I found many girls did strange things on stage..not really pageant stuff weird poses and turns. Not sure if this is what is the new trend...or they just made it up. Got to watch more pageants.. maybe I am old school lol
I think it will come down to Elishia And Chelsae in the end. Both have it all... but To list the pros and cons of each girl and compare them to one another I feel - Elishia has a better body and walk then Chelsae but Chelsae is much more facially beautiful. Chelsae I also feel has a much stronger personality she is more likable which makes her stand out. She is much more social and very funny and I know she is an amazing title holder She wold make an excellent MUC and people ( public) would love her. I find while stunning people are not intimidated by her they feel they can go up to her because she is very warm. Watching the interviews Chelsae smiles and is sweet Elishia kinda strikes me as stuck up ( may be nerves) She just needs more energy in her talk ( she has it in her walk though) Elishia photographs beautifully but at times is harsh. I think Chelsae though may be more popular in Brazil then Elishia I know they all went crazy for her the last time she was there, and many international MU directors/trainers were there and loved her and commented on how beautiful she is ( Owners of Global Beauties included) But it is time for another province to win.... But should it be based on provinces? But its anyone game Both girls are deserving. Obviously I vote Chelsae lol but Elisha is not a wrong choice either. The one thing I feel is all the hype is over photos and I think that it might change if people saw them in person.
We will see tomorrow.
Good Luck to all the girls

Last night was Prelim night here in Toronto to select the new MUC 2011. As usual it was a sensational show. The MUC organization also celebrated the 60th anniversary of Miss Canada pageants with a wonderful video montage showcasing the 59 Miss Canada's that represented our great country. It was great to acknowledge and recognize these woman for their participation in Canadian pageantry.
On to the show. Miss Universe 2005, our very own Miss Canada - Natalie Glebova, co-hosted the Prelims, and she looked amazing. I even dare to say that she was actually superior to all the delegates that were on stage. I realize that seems harsh, but Natalie is truly a Miss Universe in every sense of the word, she is spectacularly gorgeous and gets better looking each and every year. But there was indeed a show, and the girls strutted across the stage in swimsuits and evening gowns. No one tripped and fell or tumbled off the stage, so that was a bonus. Miss Canada 2010 - Elena, looked extremely beautiful, as always; it is still a head scratcher for me why Elena was not selected as a semi-finalist at Miss Universe this past year. So from what I saw last night, and this is strictly my opinion, there were several outstanding delegates that got my attention, and may even be selected as our new Miss Universe Canada. The following impressed me alot: Alyshea, Brooke, Cristine, Elishia, Emily K, Linda, Linsay, Michelle K, Sonia, Valerie, Venessa & Victoria. The most outstanding of the group in my opinion is Elishia, she 'rocked' it. I was impressed with her composure, her presence on stage, and her wow-wow-wow gown! And speaking of gowns, there were many that made some incredible choices and some that were I am sorry to say - just horrid. But I will give props to the following who were outstanding in the evening gown competition: Alyshea, Elishia, Linda, Mariah, Maxine, Sonia & Valerie.
This year there will 20 semi-finalists selected to compete for the crown of MUC 2011. Last night 5 delegates were given fast-track honours as semi-finalists to compete at MUC 2011 on Saturday night. The fast-track honours went to Linsay - People's Choice recipient; Anastasia - Best Body recipient; Mannu - SOS Children's Charity Humanitarian Award; Elishia - Runway Model recipient; Sarah - Audience Favorite. Congratulations and good luck to the 5 fast-track winners.
Who will win this year's title? I am not really sure. Based on last night's Prelims, I have a few favorites, but one never knows until you see who actually makes the semi-finals; and even then, there is always the on-stage interview. There is nothing like a 'dreaded' final question that sways the mind of a judge to determine who is the winner and takes home the title of Miss Universe Canada. I think that it really is a wide open field this year, I really do not assess a clear cut favorite as a winner, so it will be very interesting to see who makes the cut and who eventually is selected as our new Miss Universe Canada. Good luck to all the delegates, I am looking forward to Finals night. I am looking forward to an entertaining show (they always are) and maybe a few surprises. Hopefully a few of our previous Miss Canada's will be in attendance to celebrate the 60th anniversary, that would be amazing, fantastic and wonderul! And if I am correct in my count, this will be my 28th Miss Canada Finals I have attended over several decades.

First of all, can anyone tell me if there is going to be an online webcast available of either the prelims or the actual coronation night? If so, please let me know when to tune in (BC time). It sucks that this pageant is not even, at least televised on CTV or something. Canada is so not pageant friendly! Anwyays, Based on their photos on the website, here are my top 5 contenders for the title:

4th Runner Up: EMILY KISS
So as we know, Emily has already represented Canada at Miss International. Although, she wasn't successful there, she may do much better here now since she has the taste of what it's like to compete in an international pageant. She's a pretty girl, but I don't think she will stand out at Miss Universe in comparison to the other girls that have been elected so far. And some of her competition at Canada, are fierce. Nonetheless, I think she's a lock in the top 5 for Canada.

3rd Runner Up: LINSAY WILLIER
Linsay has a very modelesque look that can either work in her favor or against her. She possesses the height, the physique and the beauty, but I am concerned as to how she will stand out in comparison to the other women at Universe, provided that she is the chosen one. Will her short hair distinguish her from the rest? Definitely….but how much of an impact can she make. Her experience at Canada's Next Top Model is also an asset and I definitely think that she too, will be in the Top 5.

2nd Runner Up: BROOKE BOYLE
I love Brooke. She looks much better than her stint a few years back, where she also made the Top 20. This year, she's back and stronger than ever. Facially and physically, she's one of the best in the bunch. I think that she could potentially stand out at Miss Universe, but it all depends on what the judges are looking for. She is very girl-next-door pretty, and I would love to see her sex appeal in a stronger way.

1st Runner Up: CHELSAE DUROCHER
I had a difficult time placing Chelsae as my first runner up, because I think that she is absolutely gorgeous. Yes, she's from Tecumseh, Ontario….but the good thing is, she's not Eastern European (atleast I think she isn't), and she is drop dead gorgeous. With a face like hers, a body to die for, and a stylish wardrobe, Chelsae could potenitally bring Canada back into the semis….but for there's only one thing standing in her way, and that is…….

MISS UNIVERSE CANADA 2011: ELISHIA SAHOTA
I absolutely ADORE this girl. For one, she is so exotic. Yes, she may look a little harsh at times, but in her candid photos, she's actually quite beautiful. Second, she's from BC!!!!!! It's been such a long time since someone from my neck of the woods has been crowned (I think the last one being Renette Cruz from Richmond, BC). Thirdly, her being of Indian descent makes her stand out, she looks amazing in different photos, she's tall, has an amazing body, and great style. I love this girl and I really hope that she is the winning candidate! It's a close call between her and Chelsae, but I do think that Elishia edges her out, just a little bit more.

Honourable Mentions that could pull a surprise:
Michelle de Sousa, Victoria Valkova, Natalia Solis, Sarah Geisari and Rana Khaled.

I am soooo looking forward to see who wins it all! Will she be a match for Alyssa Campanella? We shall find out!

The girls are short, some are definitely not thin enough, a couple are bordering homely. Whoever took these girls money and gave them a glimmer of hope that they could be Miss World Canada completely stole from them. I'm sorry about half those girls should not be in a national pageant they do not stand a chance of winning at all. Out of 23 girls there isnt 1 worthy of any international stage, most are just stage fillers and extra income for MWC. sheesh.

Where are pictures of Denise, the outgoing titleholder? There are pictures of the director but not the reigning queen???? And did someone grease the railing? That is the most retarded pose I have ever seen!

I cant believe ppl bitch year after year about Denis Davilas girls being predominantly eastern European and mostly from the East, yet the MWC girls are almost exclusively Asian/South Asian and from BC and no one says a thing!! At least Denis gets 90% quality girls with only a handful of average girls who are wasting thier time and money, the majority of MUC girls are tall, thin and traffic stoppingly gorgeous!

I may sound 'mean' but I tell the truth that no one else seems willing to :P

The Miss BC pageant is a program for young women to learn new skills while developing their self-esteem. Last year's winner, Miss BC 2010 Tara Teng, has been doing amazing work with her title, including organizing BC's very first "Freedom Week" to bring awareness to the issue of human trafficking, meeting with Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and heading to Montreal where she won the title of Miss Canada!

Check out all the amazing press that the Miss BC pageant garners every year, including front page spreads on some of the province's most widely distributed media!http://www.missbc.ca/Press.aspx

If you know anyone who wants to get involved in this truly memorable event where they will make everlasting friends, give back to the community, and get amazing opportunities, then make sure they apply now to be part of Miss BC!!!

TEENS WHO WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE NEEDED NOW!!!!

The Top Teen of North America competition is inviting youth from all across North America to represent their communities in a continent-wide competition to determine who will be North America's most outstanding teenager, to be televised later this fall.

Selected candidates will come to Vancouver, BC, for a week this July where they will attend professional workshops on issues directly related to youth, receive training in a variety of genres ranging from interview skills, media relations, modelling training, health and much more. They
will interact with youth from all corners of North America and tour various sites of Vancouver and the surrounding area. A judging panel will view each contestant in a variety of settings and competitions, including a speech presentation, various interviews, a personal showcase and
attitude and deportment to determine who will be the leading Teen of North America.

There is over $5000.00 in cash scholarships to be awarded during this competition, the top prize of $3000.00 to go directly to the overall Top Teen of North America winner. This will be the third year of the competition, which begun as Top Teen of Canada in 2008 and has now grown to invite contestants from the US and Mexico. The final event will be filmed for television.

Each contestant will take part in fundraising for the Canadian and American Cancer Societies. The winner will represent teenage interests and issues during the upcoming year and will serve as a role model of leadership and community involvement across the continent.

Interested teenagers are encouraged to apply on the website http://www.topteenofnorthamerica.com

Looks like the finalists for MUC are posted!

I guess Canada's Next Top Model finalist Linsay is competing...with a couple other familiar faces, but not many I recognize. Either way, looks like a solid group!

With the help of Kelowna residents, a local teen is hoping to be crowned Miss World Canada.

Pooja Anand, Lady of the Lake 2009-10, is one of 60 delegates taking part in the national pageant in May.

At 19, Anand is one of the youngest delegates in the pageant, which is being held in Richmond.

"It's not the typical beauty pageant that you see. There is no judged score on your beauty. The Miss World Canada pageant has a huge emphasis on fund raising for Variety - The Children's Charity," says Anand.

Currently, Anand is leading the way amongst the delegates when it comes to raising funds.

"I've just hit the $1,500 mark from personal connections alone."

Anand hopes the community will help her reach her $5,000 goal.

"I think we can all do this together and help the children. We should be putting that extra sparkle in these children's lives. It's such a good cause, and it really hits home for me as I am studying cognitive psychology at UBC Okanagan."

On April 30, Anand will be hosting a fundraiser at Rosebuds Designer Consignment Boutique and Komatsu Japanese Market on Kirschner Road.

There will be 'fun for girls,' such as make up and eyebrow waxing, says Anand, as well more gender-neutral activities including snacks and Japanese drumming.

Those who can't make it, can donate online at http://variety.bc.ca/ by following the fund raising events link to the Miss World Canada page and clicking on 'Miss World 2011 Gifttool Page.'

Should Anand be crowned Queen, she would represent Canada at the Miss World Pageant.

Subject: Sun News Network’s newly minted morning host once wore Miss Canadian Universe crown

By Marc Weisblott | Daily Brew – Thu, 17 Mar, 2011 12:00 PM EDT
http://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/dailybrew/sun-news-network-newly-minted-morning-host-once-20110317-090017-895.html

The newest Sun News Network host got an early start at celebrity status when she scored the tiara of Miss Canadian Universe, a fact left out of the channel's press release.

Neelam Verma will assume the role as host on the early morning "First Look" show on the channel that launches across Canada on April 16.

But the Sun Media newspaper chain hasn't downplayed the fact Verma once held that title.

The existence of a national beauty pageant had become fairly obscure when Verma won in 2002, though. An item in Maclean's magazine noted the 26-year-old made it to the top 10 at the international Miss Universe competition in Puerto Rico, although Verma admitted she needed grooming help from consultants beforehand.

Still, there was something of a stigma attached to the pageants, which were considered a relic by the time the original Miss Canada contest ended its 44-year run in 1992. A smaller organization, Miss Canada International, launched three years later to pick up the slack.

The contest gained infamy after 1996 winner Danielle House of Daniel's Harbour, Nfld. was stripped of her crown for punching her ex-boyfriend's girlfriend in a bar. The following year she sported her tiara, a pair of boxing gloves, and nothing else, on the cover of Playboy magazine.

Some glamour returned to the pageant scene in 2003 when a new one was launched to send a Canadian representative to Miss Universe. Natalie Glebova, who won the international title in Thailand in 2005, earned global celebrity status while advocating for HIV and AIDS awareness.

When she returned to Toronto, though, she was barred from attending an event for the Thai community while wearing her sash, due to the enforcement of a bylaw designed to prevent the stereotyping of women at municipal events.

A couple of 2010 Miss Universe Canada candidates made news, however, for reasons that had nothing to do with congeniality.

Speaking to high school students about the pageant last year, Tiffany Munro of Edmonton mentioned how pageant organizers didn't want the competitors looking anorexic, "like some African child with the ribs going on."

And another hopeful, Sophie Froment of Ottawa, was evicted from the contest after it was revealed she posed in lingerie for a commercial for infidelity dating website Ashley Madison.

Sun News has emphasized its new hire graduated from York University's Schulich School of Business, four years before she won the pageant, and Verma's journalism career was initiated with an internship at CNN International in India.

By MELISSA DI COSTANZO

CORNWALL -- When she was a young girl, Sheri Cuillerier and her sister, Sarah, used to play dress-up with their aunt's scarves and hats.

"We would also sing into hairbrushes," Sheri recalls.

She pauses and smiles.

"You know those plastic high heels? I used to walk around the house in them," she laughs.

Sheri's mom, Connie, chimes in.

"She's always had an attraction to clothing and makeup," says Connie.

Sheri, 20, has modeled in two shows at Cornwall Square and danced for 12 years (and was an instructor for two of those years).

She's not a girlie girl, nor is she a glam girl, she says.

"I like wearing ball caps and jogging pants," says Cuillerier, who works as a waitress at East Side Mario's. "I work a lot, so a lot of the time, I'm in uniform."

What she never thought was that she would be a delegate for Miss Universe Canada 2011.

"For this to happen to me is huge," says the social service worker grad from St. Lawrence College. "If you told me I would be doing this, never, ever in a million years did I think I would be here, at this point. It's opened my mind to so many things I can do."

Connie is happy for her daughter, who is the baby of the family.

Sarah agrees.

"I hope she can get as far as she can go," she says.

Dad John is excited for Sheri. "I'm happy she's trying something different," he says.

***

Cuillerier was watching TV one day, when her attention was caught.

"Something came up about the delegates from (the pageant from) 2010," she explains.

So she went on the Internet and looked up the previous years' delegates. But they were not what she expected.

"They were just normal girls," she says. "I was like 'I can do that. They sound like me.'"

Cuillerier decided to fill out an application.

She applied to the pageant late last year and found out earlier this year she had been invited for auditions.

Auditions took place in February in Montreal. The day consisted of an interview, a lesson in pageant walking and questions from national director, Denis Davila.

A sampling of questions Cuillerier was asked include 'do athletes get paid too much?' and 'What is the difference between wisdom and intelligence?'

"They were intense questions," she says.

Cuillerier admits she wasn't sure she wanted to be a part of the process on the day of the auditions.

But with a little help and encouragement from her boyfriend, she pressed on.

"We were in a giant room, and they showed us poses; how to stand, how to walk," she says. "They told us to dress for an interview. So I wore a suit : a jacket, pants, a turtleneck and high heels. And all of the other girls wore heels, miniskirts and tight dresses. And I was like "OK. This should be interesting.'"

But Cuillerier thinks what separated her from the rest of the crowd was her honesty in answering questions.

"I wasn't intimidated at all," she says. "I thought : 'I'm just going to do this. I'm just going to be me,' and at that moment, I loved exactly who I was. I was very empowered at that point."

Following the day, Cuillerier says she was happy she went through the process.

"At least I did it," she says.

Within days following the auditions, she found out she had made the cut, along with roughly 60 to 70 other Canadian girls.

"Part of me wanted to see if I could make it," she says. "I wanted to do it for the people who didn't think they could do it and the small-town girls."

*** In the coming months, Cuillerier has a pile of preparation to complete. She has to research the background of the pageant and current events, fill out paperwork and raise funds to attend Miss Universe Canada.

By March 15, she has to raise $500. By March 30, she has to raise an additional $1,000. And by April 31, she has to raise another $1,000.

She's looking forward to the pageant, but says the idea that she has made it this far hasn't quite sunk in. Nevertheless, she is excited.

"I haven't left Cornwall at all. I went to Quebec City with the school in Grade 8 and Meaford," she says. "I think this will be a good life experience."

Cuillerier will be spending one week in Toronto in June, where Miss Universe Canada is taking place. In the meantime, she will be fundraising to cover costs of the pageant.

Delegates must purchase five cocktail dresses and one evening gown. In addition, they must pay $2,500 (this cost covers hotel, food, hair and makeup, a customized swim suit and evening gown and To ronto transportation fees) and Cuillerier will be paying for her own transportation.

She hopes her community will support her in this next chapter of her life.

"I was born and raised in this house," she says, from her parent's Ontario Street home. "I love Cornwall. This is my hometown."

In the end, she says even if she doesn't win, she'll be happy to have participated.

"I want to make my family and community proud," she says. "It's all a life experience I'm going to learn."

For more information or to sponsor Sheri, call her sister, Sarah, at 613-330-3349 or, visit the Facebook page called "Sheri Cuillerier for Miss Universe Canada 2011."

I received a package today in the mail with no return address and I would like to share with everyone what it had. 1) It has the legal documents from the law suit between Gaspar Cruz Miss Teen World and Miss World. There is a dispute about the use of the word world. I am aware of this.
Then on lovely Orange paper it stated this
MICHELLE WESWALDI " The Fraud" You have never been a Miss Canada You do not exist in their archives ITs Time you come out of the closet! Time you stop tarnishing the Pageant Industry. SEE YOU OUT WEST AT YOUR RECRUITING PAGEANTS

Then on another Orange paper
MISS TEEN CANADA WORLD Tarnishes the pageant Industry
Could you be the Next Pageant Victim
Does the pageant you are entering have the right to use the title they are portraying? Where is your money going?
Are you sure you are entering any pageant well informed?
The attached information may be important in your decision ( refering to the Miss Teen world law suit)
The outcome of this information will be decided in March 2011
Does this information bring any questions to your mind?
Does this give you enough time to inform yourself?
Does this give enough time to get your money back
are you making the right decision

I would like to state a couple of things - One my title was Miss Canadian World and I did go to Miss World umm get the video of 1996 it is on youtube you will see me there so not sure what this person is talking about. All of the info is on the internet Wikipedia There was not a national final held but instead a competition for Miss ONtario World then I was selected by application by Chan international. That is no secrete Secondly IF for what ever reason Miss World wins against me and I have to remove the word that is no issue we will rebrand with another title. How am I a fraud? How am I tarnishing the industry.
Furthermore I have contacted the police and there will now be a investigation. I hope you wore gloves and there are no finger prints on these papers.
How are girls a victim when they enter mtcw.

Saying you will see me out west - That narrows down to where it is coming from. MWC ? But I do not want to point blame and accuse anyone I will let the police do this.
Anyhow to the person who sent this - you do not scare me everything you wrote about me and my company has no truth only the law suit with Gaspar Cruz and Miss Teen World and that really has nothing to do with me. When Miss World comes after me ( if they do ) I will deal with that - but that does not mean in anyway that we are being shut down closed - that we are doing anything bad. You are a very uneducated person and you have really gone up against the wrong person. You should focus on your own competition because you are obviously one of the pageants that people are not impressed with. Jealous? Can't wait to find out who you are and I will.
If you know anything about me, my family you would never have sent that and you would know I will find out who you are

The board was recently attacked by a spammer posting dozens of junk messages and causing rotation of the older posts to the top.
Some preventive actions were taken including captcha verification.

We would like to ask posters to use their name or nickname consistently so we can distinguish from spammers.
Please do not sign with general text like "Fed up…", etc, it will no longer be approved.

If you post on this board for the first time please do not start with negativizm and rumors.
Here is an example of unapproved message from the first-comer (you know who you are):
"their choreogrpaher is an overstaying tourist who extorts money from the candidates. yay~! candidates pays him for makeup and recycled gowns and trainings for catwalks that makes the candidates walk like whores. It was such a shambles last year following the pageant with the director and judges ignoring the delegate who made it into the finals via fast track and ignoring audience members pointing out the error and not making any attempts to rectify it…a lot of ppl made statements on message boards and to the press etc that if Katherine Grefner were involved again they would not recommend anyone to go to it. We haven’t heard anything about the titleholder since her crowning. Have there been any appearances or is Miss World her only function? One thing I did notice is that there is a change on the website for the executive of MWC, it notes a new president and chairman and doesn’t mention Katherine except for a few thank yous on the website. Is Katherine still the franchise holder and if so why is she hiding behind a new 'president' and 'chair'?

And the biggest question, well besides my browser shutting down the page and warning me that the page is dangerous…is why is it when you click on the ‘enter 2011’ page there is no entry information? What IS going on? How can girls register for 2011 if there is no application form and no entry information? There is no information on the 2011 pageant which should be in a few months….where, when, how to enter, nothing! Or am I blind and missing it??? If it is there and I am missing it, imagine the delegates or potential delegates who are also missing it?

Venessa Facciotti of Aldergrove is aiming for the Miss Universe title.

A young Aldergrove woman has set her sights on representing Canada at this year's Miss Universe pageant in Brazil.

Venessa Facciotti has been selected as a finalist for the Miss Universe Canada 2011 Pageant that will be held in Toronto in May. If she is judged as Canada's best representative, Facciotti travels to Sao Paulo, Brazil for the Miss Universe pageant on Sept. 12.

Facciotti is currently a student at UBC in the real estate division with the goal of becoming a mortgage broker, and has already secured a position as a sub-mortgage broker for Dominion Lending, Langley office.

"I love this beautiful city and want to help promote local businesses which help make Langley the best place to be," said Facciotti.

"I have grown up here, I know all the streets, the best places to eat, and I know the most amazing people who live here. I enjoy organizing and participating in community events like charity runs and helping to coach basketball in the schools. In my free time I enjoy training my puppy right now so she will be able to work with me as a volunteer at the Langley Memorial Hospital. I enjoy working out and socializing, as well."

Facciotti is also currently seeking sponsors and supporters to help her defray the expenses involved in the Miss Universe competition. For information regarding sponsorships, contact Venessa Facciotti at email: venessafacciotti@hotmail.com

Contestants from more than 80 countries will travel to Brazil for almost a month of activities leading up to the live telecast. They will be judged in three categories — swimsuit, evening gown and interview — as they vie for the coveted title of Miss Universe 2011. This is first time in its 60-year history the Miss Universe contest will be held in Brazil.

Mexicana, Ximena Navarrete, Miss Universe 2010, will crown her successor at the conclusion of the telecast. During her reign, Navarrete has traveled the world as an advocate for HIV/AIDS education, research, and legislation. The next Miss Universe will continue this work.

Pageant owner Donald J. Trump, NBC Universal and Miss Universe Organization president Paula M. Shugart have announced that the glamorous live event, featuring the most beautiful women in the universe, will air on NBC in the United States, with a Spanish simulcast on Telemundo.

Trump said, "Brazil is rapidly becoming an economic powerhouse and is a great place to do business. This decade, Brazil is hosting three of the greatest and most-watched worldwide events: the World Cup, the Summer Olympic Games and now, to kick it all off, Miss Universe."

http://www.insidetoronto.com/news/local/article/955898--north-york-teen-to-represent-canada-at-international-pageant

Vanessa Muff is Miss Teen Canada International 2011.

Vanessa Muff's first taste of the beauty world came at age six when her mother entered her into a Sears fashion show.
It was at that show observers noted how well the youngster would fair in pageants.

And they were right. The North York girl won the very first pageant she entered in 2003.

"Canada doesn't have a lot of pageants," said the 15-year-old. "I tend to do international pageants. When I was younger I did a lot but now I do one major one a year, usually an international one or something big."

The next big competition the Newtonbrook Secondary School student is preparing for is the Miss Teen International Pageant, set for July 28 and 30 in Chicago.

After entering online, Vanessa was selected to represent Canada in the pageant, which is open to teens aged 13 to 18.

Categories include interviews with judges, fitness, evening gown and fashion wear.

Vanessa, who doesn't work with a coach, said she plans her own outfits, buys her own gowns and, most importantly, is her own boss when it comes to her pageant appearance.

While she doesn't have a team helping her prepare for the stage, The North York Mirror carrier signed up with Toastmasters International to become more at ease answering judges' questions.

"I just like being on stage," Vanessa said. "I'm very excited (about the Miss Teen International Pageant). I love going to different places. I'm trying to get sponsors and get myself out there. This is the biggest one yet I've been in."

Vanessa, who is toying with the idea of being a Miss Universe contestant one day, said her platform for the Miss Teen International Pageant is to promote the importance of volunteering and to encourage others to do the same.

A spokesperson and volunteer with the Sunshine Foundation of Canada, a charity that makes wishes come true for children with severe physical disabilities, Vanessa also spends her time teaching dance classes at Pleasant Public School, her former elementary school.

So I know the media writes the wrong stuff... They like to refer to all pageants as Miss Canada or Miss Teen Canada but usually will at some point write Miss Teen Canada World or once they said we raise money for feed the children but I know the girl made the mistake instead of Free the children but OMG this is retarded. Now, this is a Miss Canada globe contestant. It seems they spoke to Miss Canada Globe ppl or they went to their site because they have stuff they only say.. BUT OF COURSE they say the go to MISS TEEN WORLD lol cuz well rumor has it according the the girls they are told they do! and hahah at the end they have MY WEBSITE That is just funny. How did they even get my site I wonder. I just do not want to be affiliated with MCG though so it is kinda annoying. here is the article
http://www.bclocalnews.com/business/115731224.html

SOINTULA – Caitlind Camacho could be the next Miss Teen Canada.

Camacho, 14, is very excited to be a Miss Teen Canada Globe 2011 National Finalist representing Sointula.

Camacho is currently working hard to raise funds for her entrance fee and airfare to attend National Pageant Week in Toronto this summer. During pageant week delegates from all across Canada will go on various sightseeing tours, dine in different restaurants, make public appearances and paticipate in various fun activities and rehearse for the final event. They will also receive coaching on modeling, photography, health and fitness, public speaking, proper etiquette, personal appearance, wardrobe consultation and hair and make-up application.

All of this helps these women in their overall personal development, elevating confidence and self esteem, improving public-speaking skills and empowering them in many aspects of their lives.

Prizes of cash and scholarships are awarded to the top winners and the holder of the top crown qualifies to represent Canada at Miss Teen World.

The vision of the Miss Canada Globe Productions is "to promote inner beauty and confidence, as well as to provide Canadian women with opportunities to compete for a national title regardless of their height, size or creed," said the organization's website. Titleholders advance to international pageants with the opportunity represent Canada and be a role model.

"We believe that this national pageant would provide Canadian women with personal growth, valuable experiences, and a chance to move hearts," said Globe Productions. Titleholders may appear in their title to assist local charities or a non-profit fundraisers.

Camacho is raising funds through sponsorships and a 50/50 raffle, with tickets available at various Sointula locations. Also, as appreciation to the community, Camacho and her parents Nancy Ann and Dan Knapp are holding a fun free draw on a set of cedar planter boxes.

Ashley Brown has been selected to participate in Miss Universe Canada 2011.

At first glance, Ashley Brown might be judged as just another pretty face.

The 21-year-old does in fact seem flawless. Her skin is perfect, her eyes are perfect, her smile is perfect, even her confidence is perfect. She knows she's beautiful, but she also knows she has substance too.

"We all do," she said.

Brown is competing in this year's Miss Universe Canada competition. She was one of 16 B.C. contestants selected, one of 63 overall.

In the eight years of the Miss Universe Canada pageant, no B.C. girl has ever won the crown.

Brown hopes to change that.

And yet, while Brown has always taken pride in presenting herself nicely, and has a love for dresses and high-heeled shoes, she never watched or participated in beauty pageants, never fantasized about strutting down the catwalk, never imagined she'd be standing in front of a panel of judges wearing nothing but a bikini.

"I'm really nervous about that," she said.

"But I am what I am. I'm okay with how I look. I love myself no matter what."

And the humanitarian undertones of the competition have helped quell the nerves.

Miss Universe Canada is a launching pad for Miss Universe, the famed Donald Trump production. The winner of Miss Universe gets the opportunity to spend a year working with Trump and being an ambassador for the United Nations.

"That's the biggest thing for me," said Brown, who's in her second year of a political science degree at the University of the Fraser Valley.

"I'm very interested in humanitarian issues; that's what attracted me to the pageant in the first place."

Her history proves it.

Behind Brown's beautiful long-lashed eyes, is a young woman who strives to help those less fortunate.

At 18, fresh out of high school, Brown went on a six-month mission with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) to Australia and Vanuatu, a small island nation west of Fiji. There, she spent her days with the village people and started a youth sports program for impoverished children. She lived in shacks with thatched roofs; had no running hot water; and ate nothing but bread and rice for two straight months.

Last year, she was in England, again with YWAM, participating in the school of reconciliation and justice where she worked with representatives from around the world on how to achieve conflict mediation in war-torn countries.

And after graduation, she wants to work for a non-government agency, like Red Cross or Care International, that specializes in aiding women and children.

Not exactly the kind of person some would believe to be interested in beauty pageants. But pageants aren't what a lot of people make them out to be, said Brown, who balked at the negativities associated with pageants.

"I think the people making those comments are the people who have never been around a pageant before and they've bought into the misconceptions about what a pageant is about," she said. "You can only make judgements if you've been around pageants, but if you haven't you don't really know."

In the last few months, Brown's been getting a good picture of what they're all about.

She's been repeatedly interviewed by the regional and national directors; was put through etiquette classes; worked with a "flamboyant" professional runway coach to master her walk; was given guidelines on parts of her body that "should" be toned; has watched what she eats and spent hours working out.

"They promote healthy, toned, firm bodies, that's a fact," said Brown. "But they don't promote ultra-thin, they never told me to go on a diet."

And while the preparations have sometimes been America's Next Top Model-esque, they've never had the cattiness of the show.

"I was really nervous that I'd be among all these model-types, but they weren't like that, they were all normal girls," Brown said.

"They're gorgeous, but they're also ambitious, intelligent, welcoming, and warm."

Participating in the competition will cost Brown approximately $2,000 for travel expenses, pageant attire, hotel, etc. She hopes to attract local businesses as sponsors.

Anyone interested can contact her by email at ash.nicole.brown@gmail.com or by phone at 604-819-7821.

The Miss Universe Canada pageant is in June.

A Pitt Meadows teen killed in a car crash last October will be honoured by Miss World Canada.

The pageant and Variety Club of B.C. will hand out the Beckie Dyer Community Spirit Award for the first time this year to a contestant who emulates the late 19-year-old.

“A large portion of what makes a good Miss World candidate is their community service,” said Andrew Forshner, a special events coordinator with the Variety Club of B.C., a charity for which Dyer clocked countless hours as a volunteer.

“Beckie was one of the top young volunteers. We feel that we need to have Beckie be a symbol for our girls.”

The Miss World Canada pageant celebrates “Beauty with a Purpose” with delegates fundraising for Variety – The Children’s Charity as part of the competition.

Dyer and her boyfriend, Johnny De Oliveira, 21, were killed on Oct. 19 when a Toyota Paseo, heading east on Lougheed, skidded sideways over a concrete median near Harris Road.

The Toyota flipped over and slammed into the roof of the Suzuki Swift that Dyer and De Oliveira were travelling in.

Investigators allege the woman in the Toyota was driving aggressively when she crashed. She has yet to be charged.

As a teen, Beckie spent hours of her free time helping charities such as Variety, the Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation, Pitt Meadows Day and the Network for Animals.

She won the 2009 Lynn Papp Award for her volunteer work in the city and vied three times for the title of Miss Teen B.C.

Debbie Dyer said her daughter loved participating in the Miss Teen pageant because its mission was “Beauty with A Purpose.”

“Beckie was able to do amazing things within the community and has touched the lives of so many because of the growth, guidance and self confidence the pageant instilled in her,” added Debbie Dyer.

“I am deeply honoured that the Miss World Canada is promoting an award in her name.”

The award will be based on online voting, the contestant’s fundraising abilities, scrapbooking and their volunteer work in the community.

It will be given out on May 19.

First Person: Life of a beauty pageant contestant

News – The author with her Miss Universe Canada award. (Photo by Hazel Lorraine)

I never dreamed of becoming a beauty queen. But when opportunity knocks, sometimes you have to open the door and let it in.
In 2002, I had just finished my bachelor's degree in psychology and communications at York University. At the time, I worked as a model in Toronto when one of my trainers phoned to tell me about the audition for Miss Universe Canada. At first, I was shocked; I never thought of myself as beauty queen material -- after all, I am only 5'2".
But I decided to try my luck at the Miss Canada audition at the Primrose Hotel in Toronto. I can't lie: When I think about that day, I was extremely nervous. I had no idea what to expect, so when it was my turn to talk to the panel of judges, I was literally shaking in my high heels.
There were three women and two men on the panel of judges, and they just bombarded me with questions one after another. They weren't easy to answer, ranging from, "Where do you see yourself in five years?" to "If you were to become Miss Universe Canada, how would you represent your country?" I think I fumbled some of my answers, but when I was in doubt, I always said, "I would always promote world peace."
I guess that's how I won the judges over because a few weeks after the audition, I got a call from one of the judges -- Sally A -- who told me I was accepted as one of the 20 contestants to compete in the 2003 Miss Universe Canada, Toronto and southern Ontario regional finals. I was shocked -- but happy -- I was accepted.
The first meeting with other contestants was in September 2002 when the reigning Miss Universe, Oxana Fedorova, was in Toronto for her press conference. I met the other 19 ladies at the Windsor Arms Hotel and, most importantly, we met Oxana. It was exciting to meet her and see the media blitz surrounding Miss Universe. I felt more of a spectator, instead of a contestant, and seeing the countless amounts of photographers and journalists made it feel like a dream.

Physically exhausted -- with swollen feet in high heels
Our trainers told us if we weren't serious about committing to the pageant, we should get out. The following months of preparation were crucial. I didn't know pageant training was going to be hard work with long hours -- until your high-heeled feet are swollen and you're physically exhausted while worrying about hair and makeup. If you think that pageant contestants are just smiling models who prance around in their bikinis all day long, you got it totally wrong. We practiced every weekend for six weeks before the actual pageant on Nov. 3, 2002.

In between our weekend rehearsals, we had to go to fittings, individual rehearsals, training seminars on proper walking, how to answer interview questions, and personal style. I also physically trained by swimming 30 laps four times a week.
Training for Miss Universe Canada taught me self-discipline, and it was the most fun I ever had with other women. During rehearsals, I formed many new friendships and, contrary to popular belief, women in pageants do get along. There were times when some of the contestants took the competition very seriously, so when our trainers could sense that we were getting competitive with each other, Sally A told us, "Do not compete with each other. Only compete with yourself. Outdo what you did before."
Nervous before the curtain
The regional finals were held at the Toronto Centre For The Arts. Only the top 10 moved on to the national finals. When the final hour arrived and the audience started filing in, the sudden rush of excitement came over us -- and a lot of us started to behave strangely. One contestant was meditating alone and didn't want to be disturbed. Another contestant locked herself in the washroom and refused to come out right before the curtain call. I was hungry and trying to find leftover carrot sticks.
Once we heard the audience cheering us on, we applied what we learned during rehearsal. I had the best time of my life. The audience's reaction and their appreciation lifted our mood on stage, and we were naturally high on the audience's energy.
I didn't make the top 10, however. But I did receive a prize for "Most Improved Delegate." (It was so loud on stage, I didn't hear the host tell me I'd won this award; instead, I froze with the spotlight on me.)
The award in itself was a great achievement, so even if I didn't make the finals, I was grateful to the Miss Universe Organization for giving me this opportunity. I still apply pageant lessons in my life today (including overcoming a fear of public speaking). Despite not making nationals, I did walk away a winner.

Local off to Toronto in bid for Universe title

Mariah Dixon will be competing in the Miss Canada Universe pageant in Toronto in June.

Published: January 23, 2011 6:00 AM
She’s never been a model or participated in a pageant.

But that hasn’t stopped Mariah Dixon has been named a finalist in the Miss Universe Canada competition.

Dixon, 18, says she applied on little more than a whim after coming across the contest on the Internet.

“I told my mom about it, and she got all excited. She said ‘Mariah, you have to do this!’”

Dixon attended a day-long interview and training process last month in Vancouver with a roomful of women ages 18 to 27. They were given pointers on graceful walking and public speaking, and quizzed on current events.

For nearly all the others, it wasn’t a new experience.

“They had already been training for months,” she says. “I was the youngest there. Most were 21 and older. One girl already has her doctorate, while others have their own companies.”

Most were friendly, although some were “pretty competitive,” she says.

“They gave me tips and encouraged me, telling me ‘You kind of messed up on this, but don’t worry, you’ll get better.’”

Although she didn’t feel nervous going in, “I was nervous after I left. I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it, but everyone reassured me I would.”

The call soon came that she had.

“I started jumping up and down. I called my mom right away, and we were both jumping up and down on either side of the phone.”

Dixon, who graduated from high school in Nelson B.C. last year and has since been working in Duncan, where her grandparents live, says there’s a lot to do to prepare for the pageant in Toronto in June.

She’ll be hiring a personal trainer and seeking sponsorships to cover her expenses, including twice monthly visits to Vancouver.

“It will be lots of fun,” she says. “I’m going to work hard at it, but it’s just an experience.”

Mariah’s mother, Jen Bredl, says she’s thrilled for her daughter.

“My feminist side thinks hmmm, pageants. But when I read their platform, I don’t feel it’s objectifying girls. They’re just trying to show healthy, strong bodies.”

Physical appearance is not the only factor, she adds. She thinks participating in the pageant will be worthwhile no matter what the outcome.

“If Mariah were to come in even in the top 20, there could be all sorts of opportunities for her. You never know what this could lead to.”

Dixon has five brothers, who she says are happy for her, but have also been ribbing her. Friends were amazed to hear about it.

“They were like ‘Why didn’t you tell us about this? How come we didn’t know?’ Everyone from Nelson’s phoning up wanting the details.”

The winner of Miss Canada Universe goes on to compete for the Miss Universe title in Sao Paulo, Brazil next September.

Dixon is looking for sponsors, both major and minor. She can be reached at mariah-dixon@hotmail.ca.

Thought some of you may like to know this as many of you were fans of Ashley Cullingbull (MUC 2010 2nd runner up).

She stopped competing in pageants for a bit because she was offered a role on this TV Show after MUC and she was busy filming, along with other things I am sure.

Anyways the series is airing on TV tonight (either APTN or Showcase). Here is a link to info on the series.

On the recent acquisition of the Miss Teen International franchise for Canada! It seems that Michelle and her reputation for a quality pageant and quality delegates, high standards and class has gotten around in the iternational pageant circles! I believe this directorship locks her in to having all the international directorships for all teen pageants around the world with any sort of relevance. Good job Michelle!
