I've been reading all of the posts regarding Samantha Tajik not making the semis, and that she was plastic and it was no suprise not hearing her name called during the finals, re-creating Natalie clones...and how Canada doesn't have much to choose from, etc, etc, etc.
There is some truth to everyone's points. However, I think that Canada does have some truly gorgeous girls, but they just aren't interested in competing, or the pageant scene doesn't appeal to them.
With the disclusion of Samantha Tajik during the live telecast, it's true, there was no surprise there. She rocked the preliminaries and did her best. But there will always be other contestants that will do better. But I truly believe that she did have that international appeal as well....whether or not she made the finals, I think Sam did her best and that's all what we could ask for, when representing the country.
As for repeats in the next edition of Miss Universe Canada, there will definitely be a batch of girls who want to try again and win it. Lina Lombana, Aleksandra Malkin, Genida Prifti, Claudia Olejnik....I'm sure will re-enter. Will they win? 80% chance...but no guarantee.
Anyways, Miss Universe 2008 is over. Venezuela, who was my favorite for the crown won....just like when I called it for Canada in 2005. CONSISTENCY, presence, and confidence, the minute she steps in the host country is the main key.
Natalie had it, Alice had it, Zuleyka, Riyo, all of them....
and we need to find another girl that will do that!

Wow what a bunch of beautiful girls!
Looking at the prelim videos on the website I must say that this years televised show should be very interesting to watch!
Canada: Samantha did great.... she looks amazing on stage. She has the confidence to be there, and she looks awesome!
puerto rico: beautiful.... def. top 15.. probably top 10.
USA- amazing... the next Miss Universe? probably not but def. top 5.
venezuela: I think she is the next miss universe. Look at her in those video's. It looks as though she already is Miss Universe. She has what Natalie has on that stage, and she has what Zuleyka had on the stage when she won! Just my opinion... but she is for sure a crowd pleaser.. and she is on top of it!!
Mexico.. in the interview video i thought she was pretty... but during the prelim show - it looked as though she was good on stage too! Prob. top 5 I would say..
Anyway... this is just an opinion. what do you think?
I think Canada deserves to be in top 15.. top 10 and maybe even top 5 based on her performance.. however we all know how politics play out... some of us may feel there is politics with MUC so we should also know and remember that politics play a huge role at Miss Universe as well...
So if for some reason Sam doesnt make the finals... it will not be bc of her perfomance. I think she has done a great job representing canada so far and we should be proud!

Hi everyone,
I've been reading this forum for the past few weeks, and it seems that everybody has had a world of negative to say about the current Miss Universe Canada - Samantha Tajik.
While I'm not certain what the motives are behind the incessant attacks, this is the CANADIAN pageant fan's message forum, in SUPPORT of Canadian women in pageantry. Samantha is currently competing on what is one of, if not THE highest profile pageantry event in the entire world - like her or not, we need to RALLY AROUND our delegate, instead of taking every opportunity to drag her down through the floor.
Personally, I believe her to be a contender, and we as Canadian pageant fans need to stand behind her as she takes on a daunting task that requires a hell of a lot of courage - all eyes are gonna be on her next month and I find it sad the amount of unwillingness that exists to support her during this time.
I ask you all to take a moment and to place yourselves in her shoes - what would YOU want pageant fans back home to be doing? Encouraging, or degrading you? Before anybody says another word, please consider this. Months and years of preparation have gone into this - she is living a dream. Don't try and ruin it for her with nasty off-hand comments and discouragement.
Samantha - you are beautiful, and I believe in you - now, make Canada proud!! GO SAM! :)

What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?
I enjoy traveling, skating, keeping active, spending time with my puppies and dancing, but above all else, I enjoy making a difference in the lives of others. When I go to bed at the end of a day and can say that I have helped at least one person, than I've had a good day!
What is your career ambition?
My career ambition is to have my own business in the entertainment field. It is both my choices and my strive to achieve that will take me there. From helping out backstage at a Runway show, to being the center of attention, everything I do will help me explore and get me closer to my aspiration. With strict discipline and thoroughly taking each step towards my goal, one day my perseverance will be rewarded.
What is your proudest personal accomplishment?
Breaking down stereotypes and embracing changes in society is what fuels new ideas in progress. My ambition for modeling was blatant to my surroundings, and my deep desire was strong enough to break down any misconceived ideas. Therefore, my proudest accomplishment would be achieving that degree of positive attitude that helps me get through anything in life.
What is something unique that has happened to you; some interesting thing about you?
As Miss Universe Canada, I’ve had the opportunity to fulfill one of my deepest dreams – making a difference in the lives of others, especially through my work with S.O.S. Children’s Villages and the American-Nicaraguan Foundation. Words could never accurately describe what I feel inside, and it has truly been more fulfilling than I could have ever imagined. I will forever be grateful for these experiences, and I know this is something I will continue for the rest of my life.
What do you want the judges to know about you?
I believe that everyone is blessed with life and we should not take things for granted. But instead, savor the moments, and use our advantages to help others with disadvantages. I would like the judges to know that if I am chosen as Miss Universe 2008, I would be totally committed to the job and the organization behind it. I thrive on challenge and set very high standards for myself; and possess an intense desire to do my best in anything I get involved with.

"In the plane above, you can imagine 3 countries inside, Miss Japan, Miss Korea and Miss Canada. Miss Canada had a transfer in Tokyo and we met her at check in. She recognized me and called my name, also I was so surprised! In fact she was in Mexico last year when Riyo won, she was there with my friends Dennis the National Directors of Canada, and Miguel, her head coach.
"One of her suitcase, containing her evening gowns was lost and she was so worried because she has to take picture with the gown this Sunday. Hiroko told her that she can borrow one of her evening gown, and Sun proposed to lend her a pair of her shoes because they fit the same shoe size.
Miss Canada kindly also carried one of Hiroko carry-on suitcases to help us with the overweight charges. Sweet girl! She is beautiful, tall, slim and really smart."
