• Advertising takes money - We already foot 50% of the production cost out of our salary therefore, cannot afford the $5000+ charges to advertise anywhere. It's been slowly growing but nicely and steadily growing - we had a Toronto prelim and it wasn't worth it. It is now in Ottawa to stay - a national pageant in the national capital and we are truly welcomed here (unlike Toronto) since we are the only national pageant here.   • That was the worst swimsuit competition I have ever seen on a Miss Universe pageant. The judges were hashing out 7s like there's no tomorrow, and they were right EVERY SINGLE TIME.       • My heart went out to her - it's as if there's a curse on Miss USA. I think that if Crystle got into the top 5, she could have taken it. Venezuela was second all night, but her answer was better than Colombia's. Crystle is a motivational speaker, so I think she would have done really well in the interview.   • I beg you pardon? Alice, Inga, and Samantha were not molded after Natalie. They all have different looks and Alice and Sam have different ethnicities than Natalie's. If anything Natalie was molded to look like a Latina (her natural hair is not dark) All of them represented Canada well, the level of dificulty in placing was higher for Alice, Inga and Samantha because their country has won so recently and because MU 2006, 2007, and 2008 were a lot more competive than 2005 (the number and the qaulity of the contestants in 06, 07, and 08 was higher than in 2005) Nevertheless we are proud of all of them! • okay whoever thinks that canada doesn't have attractive girls is ridiculous.......being so multicultural we have one of the widest variety of beautiful women to choose from. as stated above it all comes down to the fact that interest in canadian pageants is minimal at best and few women feel they will be respected for participating in beauty pageants. for a country that is very progressive, we still have an antiquated view on pageantry. I was in mwc this past year and i found myself constantly defending my choice to participate in a pageant. Which is why we need to choose good quality queens that will represent our country well in international competition but also give a good name to pageants at home, so that the Canadian public can get behind them. • I believe, that controversy started here with the statement "Born and bred Canadian". That is just ridiculous. I agree that we should not blame MUC for non-placement at Miss Universe. Remember, MUC is just one person – national director, who does not personally select a national winner, he selects candidates to participate in the pageant. The panel of Canadian judges makes a choice for the winner and they failed to make a right choice in 2004 and 2007, but there was no choice for 2008 – now you can blame MUC for poor selection of candidates in 2008.       • I don't think our pageant fans are necessarily negative, as much as they are somewhat skeptical lately. There was no negativity when Natalie, Alice or Leanne were MUC. I think the appearance of impropriety on the part of the MUC Organization is fueling the flames. And I think it will continue if situations like that trip to Nicaragua, where certain girls were clearly invited along on the trip despite not being the new queen. And if any of these girls should win the title of MUC next year, then more speculation of "fixing" the outcome will again be raised.         • I agree with what you're saying, however, there is another misunderstanding. During MUC this past year, all contestants were notified (in a letter) that the top 5 would be going to Nicaragua on that trip. Sahar and Genita couldn't make it (due to work committments) so two other top 10 members (who were available to go) went in their place. Sadly, no matter who wins next year there will be claims of "fixing" - there will always be some "reason". When Natalie won, there were also claims of it being fixed, but that was forgotten after she won Miss Universe. And yes, those claims were made about Alice too. I understand people being skeptical, but instead of assuming negitave thoughts surrounding things like the Nicaragua trip, please look at the other possibilities too and the sincere purpose of that trip.           • Isabelle, I am a past pageant contestant and because this world is so small, a friend of mine actually knew by chance one of Alice's sponsors and this sponsor leaked before her crowning they Alice was promised by the organization she would win. This sponsor was bragging about his "MUC" before she even won.. and he knew this information from Alice herself. There is alot more information that I know but I wont share.. The girls that are from the Toronto area know what this pageant is about and how Denis runs his pageant. I would never recommend any girl pay an entry fee to this pageant.               • No. Alice was the winner from the beginning. She's was undeniably the most beautiful contestant and deserved her win, whether it was fixed or not. No one came close to Alice. In Natalie's year, many of us thought Gretel Montgomery was more beautiful and should have won. That was a competitive year and in retrospect it turned out right. Canada produced one of the most beautiful Miss Universes ever. In Leanne's year, I was surprised by her win, because she seemed to come out of nowhere. However, she was the most beautiful that year, and my very favorite Miss Canada ever. It all seemed to fall apart after Alice. If it was fixed, they forgot to choose beautiful. • A lot of girls were very upset with this parade. A select group were dressed in Ao Dais (the elegant Vietnamese dress) and put on special floats, while the rest wore pink t-shirts and rode on flat floats. Venezuela got to headline the whole thing. While the girls like Venezuela personally, they are disgusted with the favoritism she is getting. Apparently, some have refused to participate in events because of the favoritism. Vanessa, Leanne, Natalie, Alice, and even Inga all had very beautiful faces.. this girl does not. I have not seen her perform, but if she is amazing on stage, her body & performance might get her in the top 15.. But I don't think she will even come close to top 10-5... I've only had the opportunity to see the pictures people have posted here, and a few other, but she has no originality when it come to posing.   • She's actually very good on stage. Though she did trip a couple times over her evening gown, and her on stage interview came off as very ditzy. There still is no question that she has presence. That said, I expected her to be 1st RU. I think Sahar is much more elegant and sophisticated looking. That girl is truly beautiful. I found Samantha to be a bit "too much", and the lip injections unnatural.. Plus, if the BOC organization want her to do well at MU, a makeup artist needs to work on her eyebrows (did anyone see her on ET Canada monday night, yikes!).. As well, they need to work on her interviewing skills.. They were lacking as well. That said, I think she can make Top 10. But I doubt she will make Top 5, and definitely not win.
