A young Okanagan woman is hoping to wear a crown this summer.

Christina O'Connor, 18, is in the running for the title of Miss B.C. She has spent the last several months preparing for the contest, which takes place in Fort Langley this July.

“I thought it would be a neat experience, plus the whole thing is a fundraiser for Cops For Cancer, so I can help out a good cause at the same time,” says O'Connor.

She says this is her first pageant and she is still finding her way around the world of pageantry.

“It's an interesting process, all the interviews. You have to have four outfits for the pageant, a business one, a sports one, a ball gown of course and an outfit provided by your main sponsor.”

O'Connor, who is studying to be a pharmacy tech at Okanagan College, is still searching for sponsors.

“Every contestant has to have $801 in order to be eligible to compete. I'm not sure why they have that amount, but that's what I need to get.”

The winner of the Miss B.C. title will be eligible to compete in upcoming pageants such as Miss World and Miss Earth.
