Subject: On the Rebound?

You can't get any more speculative than this, but just the same I hope that the Temple coaching staff will be monitoring the power forward situation down at UVA this spring where rumors are circulating that freshman Elton Brown is a transfer candidate from among several players mentioned.

You'll remember Brown's decision came down to Temple and UVA, with the home state school winning out. Despite that Temple offered the playing time advantage Brown chose to take his chances with the crowded UVA frontcourt rotation that included fellow freshman PF Jason Clark, soph PF JC Mathis, junior PF Travis Watson and senior combo forward Chris Williams (UVA plays without a center). Brown has struggled with his conditioning and has lost out on playing time to both Clark and Mathis - both of whom will potentially be at UVA for another two or more seasons. Watson is expected to return next season also - and Cal- big man transfer Nick Vanderlaan is expected to make the UVA frontcourt situation that much more crowded.

Expectations are that either Mathis or Brown won't be around next season.

Should Temple be interested? Definitely! Brown would immediately become the biggest and best power forward on the Temple roster and would add a scoring dimension to nicely complement the defensive/rebounding game of Keith Butler.

The red flag with this situation is that Brown has been fingered as somewhat of an attitude problem and has been referred to as a "crybaby". Whether there's much more to this than "scapegoatism" in the wake of UVA's amazing collapse this season, I don't know. But if it's just a matter of playing time, then you'd have to expect that that wouldn't be a problem with the Owls.
