You really can't compare gay marriage and abortion!

Gay marriage: I agree with you TOTALLY that marriage should not be a federal issue. In fact, what you point out is the difference between legal and lawful. Time was when a man and a woman wanted to marry, they made promises to each other... sometimes with a judge or preacher or justice of the peace... sometimes just made those promises in front of friends or family. There were no licenses to get... marriage was between a man, a woman, and God. Early frontier days in this country... often there was not anyone else around to marry them! Then some idiot in government figured out a good way to control people and make money... marriages licenses. "Legal" entered the picture, along with lawful. "Lawful" is those things which GOD has approved. They are Lawful. It is only the government that created legal. So-- now in the temple, we are told the law of chastity is to not have sexual relations with anyone who is not "Legally & Lawfully" our spouse. I wonder if there are any countries left who do not have such thing as LEGAL?? At any rate, because it is the custom and shows a proof of committment, we now do the Legal thing...

But I agree that Legal marriage should not even exist. Period.

However, it appears that we must deal with the realities of this world. If the church were to pretend that legal did not exist, that marriage truly still was only a covenant between a man, a woman, and God... with no government... would that make the government intrusion go away? No. So, since government HAS 'legalized' the whole issue... then the reality is that the government IS and WILL continue to do so... and therefore the valid question is... can we have some influence on what direction they take that legalization?

The fight is almost like a matter of fighting for right, even if you know it ain't gonna win on this planet. You still fight because you have to. You cannot just accept the rampant spread of wickedness, and the slide down this most slippery slope for our country and indeed our world.

Now abortion... can't compare. There is no grey area... not legally or lawfully. God told us clearly that murder is unlawful. The purpose of government is to protect life, liberty & property. So any government that allows abortion is acting in wickedness and against the powers vested in it by the people.
