Halloooo the House!

Senior sexuality wasn't my intended theme of the week. While I was searching for the quotes I wanted, it kept popping up. Not one to ignore Life when it hits me in the face, I could see that the angels who oversee Lallybroch were sending me a sign. So there you are.

DG and I are 2 months apart in age. I'm the elder. She and I have shared the same orthopedic issues, usually within a month or two of each other, so I KNOW how this not-a-20 year-old-any longer thing goes. One thing that has bothered me the last couple of years is how she portrays Claire's ability to bend easily. And her voracious sexual appetite. I'm tired. I sit down and Clonk. I fall asleep. There are times when I want too say "You're kidding, right?" Outside, under the bushes, at this point in my life, causes laughter more than groans.

I'm not disparaging the Joys of Sex after 50. Or 60. Or 70. But Lordy, Claire.... I love you, Woman, but you're a hard act to follow.

"It was a beautiful wedding, wasn't it?" She didn't resist as he took the glass from her hand and set it down with his own. "Quiet, but awfully nice."

"Aye, very nice." He kissed her, softly, and held her close against him. He could feel the back lacing of her gown, criss-crossed under the thin knitted shawl.

"Mmm. You taste good."

"Oh, aye, like sausages and wine. So do you." His hand twitched up the edge of her shawl, getting beneath and fumbling for the edge of the lace, somewhere down near the small of her back. She pressed against him, making it easier.

"Will we still want to make love, do you think, when we're as old as they are?" she murmered in his ear.

"I will," he assured her, getting hold of the small bow that secured the lace. "I hope you will, too; I shouldna like to do it alone."

[> I also know that I'm closer to Jocasta's age than Claire's. I do know when arthritis starts, though, and that unless you remain a cheerleader as you age, some muscles become less agile, even at Claire's age. -- Betsy BFS, Thu, February 23 2023, 6:15:49

[> I'm still fairly flexible at 64 thanks to dancing and stretch exercises but I need furniture and a bit of groaning to get up off the floor. Given the exigencies of mountain life with no modern amenities they should both be needing naps and a lot more willow bark and moonshine. -- kgp, Thu, February 23 2023, 9:05:55
