  • Not a good day, I've got a rotten cold, my DS just found out that somehow the local WaWa didn't cancel his gas transaction and evidentally the next car in liner got 62.00 worth of gas on DS's card, he is now overdrawn at the bank, had to cancel his debit card and wait for the dispute to go through the banking office. He's got to wait 7-10 days for the funds and overdraught charges to be deposited back in his acct. Oh bother! And he had to cancel his appt. to interview and tour the Art Institute because he has no money to get there or park. For my family a special Thank You to DH for his 26 yrs of Naval Service. For my brother whok served in the MD Army Natl Guard during Vietnam nam. A loving tribute to my Dad who was a WWII Naval Vet who served in the Atlantic and Pacific campaigns. He was at Utah Beach, then headed east to the Pacific until after the war was over. Both of his brothers were in the Navy too. My Uncle Bob was an Army Ssgt and was in Germany w/Elvis in the same company. He said Elvis wanted to be like all the others there. It's not all THAT time consuming but I'm quite busy at work and thought someone might be interested in taking on this project this year. Perhaps someone even has some new ideas about it all.   I know this seems early but I swear Walmart is already playing Christmas music so it must be time for the card exchange! For those who are new to the boards or have never participated in the Holiday Card exchange, I’ll give you a brief rundown of the details.
  
  Each year Hosers from all over the world exchange cards as a way to spread a little joy and celebrate our friendships. Last year we started an e-card exchange to help spread the Hoser Joy around the world without breaking the bank.
  
  In order to participate, all you need to do is send me a little information and I’ll get you on the list. I'd love to have as many Ladies/Lads participate as possible, so if you have any questions or concerns just email me. I'm here to help :)
  
  Here’s how it works:
  
  1. Decide if you want to do the traditional card exchange, e-card exchange, or both.
  
  2. If you want to participate in the regular card exchange, decide how many cards you would like to send. I will do like previous years and divide the list up into groups of 10. You can choose to send 10, 20, 30, 40, or you can do the whole list. Unfortunately I can't create a list of specific people for you or do only Canadian/UK/ International Hosers. We usually have about a dozen people from Outside the US participate and that's just not enough to do a separate list. I do try to accommodate requests if I can for those that live outside the US since I know postage can be a major expense but I can't make any promises.
  
  3. Send me an email to let me know which exchange you want to participate in. If you want to to do both please send me an email for each one (it makes keeping track of things easier on my end).
  
  4. For the traditional card exchange, please include the following information in your email: how many cards you would like to send, your full name, your board nickname, and your complete address (country too!). Please make sure the addresses is typed the way it must be written on the envelope according to your postal service. Ex:

  5. For the e-card exchange, send me the email address that you'd like the e-card sent to along with your board name.
  
  6. If you don’t want to receive religious themed cards, not a problem, just include that information under your address. Please respect your fellow Hosers wishes when it comes to non-religious cards.
  
  7. Send all the above information to lolrisab at yahoo dot com (take out the spaces) by November 21. That is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving for those of us that are US Hosers. I’ll email you your list a few days after that. Make sure add my email to your address book so you can receive my emails or check your spam boxes for the lists; this has been an issue in years past.
  
  5. After I receive your email, I will send you an email confirming that I've added you to the list. If you don't get a reply back or if you have any questions at all about the exchange, please either leave me a message on the Social Board or email me again.
  
  A few final F.A.Q's for the card exchange
  
  1- I can't break lists down to include specific countries or remove specific countries. It just takes too much time and causes much confusion in my brain.Sorry :(
  
  2- The e-card list will be not be broken down into smaller lists; so its all or nothing if you'd like to do that.
  
  3-Generally we have between 75-90 people participate in the exchange and about 15 or so of them are Hosers from outside the U.S. (I get asked this a bunch so I thought I'd let you know up front since postage keep going up and up!)
  
  4- If you've never participated, please think about doing the exchange. I love going to the mailbox everyday and finding stacks and stacks of cards from all over the world. It sure does beat the usual combination of bills and junk mail.

      • Hi Jayn, depending on where and when you sent things, many delivery services, including the USPS, UPS, and FEDEX are still backed up from Superstorm Sandy. Even if you haven't sent things specifically to the East coast, other warehouse and distribution centers in those areas are still struggling to get mail and other packages sorted and out, causing backups everywhere. It will probably be some weeks yet before everything is completely back to normal. Many areas in NY and the northeast also got their first real snowstorm yesterday, which won't help. My friends tear their hair out because their 11 y.o. sons pull this trick with the shower, in order to avoid taking one, or a bath, and they have to actually go into the bathroom and supervise the kid soaping up! My only experience with this is my dad and he had dementia! When we were told to take a bath we did it, period! And I loved, and still love baths.       • I used to hate the dentist, but I like this dentist. I just had crowns done to my front 4 upper teeth on Monday so I am still recovering from it. I too (being a displaced Canadian in the US) is very glad the election is now over - and I can stop receiving all those 'please vote' calls, or seeing the incessant ads on TV - which grew quite annoying. Oh, and if anyone wants to see what's happening with my bathroom renovation (mentoned it a few days back), I've posted pics on FB. Heading to see my GI doc today and find out if he'll okay some short term disability while I get used to the new meds he wants me to take - they're immunosuppressants and bound to mess up my system for a while until I get used to them - have not been very productive at work lately, and think I need some time away to get myself straightened out.
