The following quotation is from Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone by Diana Gabaldon. Copyright 2021 All Rights Reserved. Chapter 102 The Winds Of Winter

“I wanted a coward, you know,” she said. “A man who’d stay away from danger and blood and all those things.”

“And you thought I might be one?” He was curious, rather than offended.
“At first. Uncle John said you’d resigned your commission, and I could see that he and Father Pardloe were bothered that you did.”

“I expect they were,” he said, careful to let nothing show in his voice.

“But it didn’t take long to see what you were. What you still are.”

[> It's going to be very interesting to see just what William becomes - a rebel like Jamie, or Loyalist like John and the rest of the Greys. I don't see John joining the rebel cause. I think he's too honorable to "turn his coat." -- DianaH, Mon, May 08 2023, 14:00:26

[> [> Yes, it would be almost “fakey” to have him turn. Maybe if he were younger, like William. It’s interesting how she aimed and picked William and why. I kind of skipped over these parts so I’m enjoying looking at her more deeply. -- Kathy in PA, Mon, May 08 2023, 14:20:32
