The following quote is taken from Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone by Diana Gabaldon, Chapter 148, Not…Yet…. Copywrite 2021, All Rights Reserved.

“Can you hear me?” I said.

His face twitched briefly, fell into stillness, and then---after an agonizingly long moment---his eyes opened. Only a dark-blue, red-rimmed slit, but open.

“Aye,” he whispered.

“The battle’s over. You’re not dead.”

He regarded me for a long moment, his mouth slightly open.

“Not…yet,” he said, in what I thought was a rather grudging tone.

“We’re going home,” I said.

He breathed for a minute, then said, “Good,” and closed his eyes again.

Isn’t it amazing how Diana can write these characters so that we feel we are living with them, take us to the depths of despair, and then bring us back to joy?

[> Yes, yes and YES!!! That’s what always hits me - from 1991 on - the power of words she uses to pull us through this whole saga!!! And they’re so succinct and make me feel every sense. A six sentence dialogue with so few words but we were all there, breathing relief and joy of “home.” I really have to read this again. -- Kathy in PA, Sat, June 03 2023, 7:19:45

[> [> I know. Boring walks in the woods, churning butter, taking care of the kids and the animals, teaching the young boys to become young men - you know - life on the ridge. ………. Sigh -- Kathy in PA, Sun, June 04 2023, 9:35:11
