Subject: QOTD for Sunday, May 1, 2022 - William is having a Pity Party

The following quotation is from Written In my Own Heart’s Blood by Diana Gabaldon. Copyright 2014 All Rights Reserved. Chapter 50 The Good Shepherd

He looked back over his shoulder; The Endicotts were barely visible, now sitting in the grass in a companionable circle, sharing food of some kind. He felt a keen pang at the sight of their companionability. He’d never be part of a decent family, couldn’t even marry a woman of such modest origins as Anne Endicott.

Her father might well be ruined, might have lost his wealth and business, the family might descend into poverty - but they would remain who they were, firm in their courage and pride of their name. Not him. His name didn’t belong to him.

[> You’re right! Waaahhhh. I still have a hard time liking William. I think his spoiled upbringing hinders his view of the world, especially in the colonies. His British “pride of name” will truly not be worth much anyway shortly. -- Kathy in PA, Mon, May 02 2022, 4:55:59

[> [> I can appreciate your opinion about William. Now and then I've wanted to give him a little shake and say, "Hey, pity party time is over." However, I DO see where and why some of his disillusionment and unhappiness have come from. He THOUGHT he knew just who he was, his lineage, name, and title. Then, surprise!!! Nope, not a nobleman by blood after all, but the bastard son of a Jacobite traitor. It's easy for me to see why William and Bree have formed a bond, which I'm really enjoying seeing develop. -- DianaH, Mon, May 02 2022, 9:04:35

[> [> [> That was one of the biggest things I was looking forward to in Bees. Sophie Skelton helped me like Bri so maybe a live version of William will sit better than the one I read. -- Kathy in PA, Mon, May 02 2022, 17:37:10

[> [> [> [> I hope they cast that well. The young boy they had for 12 year old William was just not right. -- kgp, Mon, May 02 2022, 18:18:21
