Chapter 31
MAIL CALL

His mother, Ellen, had planted the late-blooming rosebush by the door. Its faint, rich scent still wafted up the walls of the house to the bedroom window. It was as though she reached in herself, to touch him lightly in passing. To touch me, too, in welcome.

How are your gardens blooming? Red tulips are my childhood touchstone and they remind me of my Dad and his love of gardening every spring. On another nature note - did anyone else stay up last night to watch the meteor shower?
I set my alarm and got up at midnight and between then and 1:30 I saw 10. One was really neat like a reddish orange fire arrow. When the clouds cover came I was glad to go back to bed!

[> I just planted my flowers this past weekend, so those pops of color are brand new, though the peony I planted last year is heavy with buds. The pots by my front & back doors and on the deck are now cheerful and waiting for the bees and humming birds to discover them. Flowers make me happy. -- DianaH, Tue, May 31 2022, 8:32:04

[> [> Me too! And I love, love, love peonies. Just bury my face in them and don’t give a fig about the ants. I have some from a wonderful neighbor who died years ago and everyone in the neighborhood remembers her yelling , Stay away from my peenies! And she was so sweet and loved the kids did it without question. -- Kathy in PA, Tue, May 31 2022, 10:41:51

[> [> [> [> Will you keep posting? What are you cooking up these days? Were you here when we still had a Social Board? Or Polls & Surveys? All kinds of discussions going on. Things slowed down when FB started, although I still can’t find this group on there??? But they all kind of morphed into the QOTD but you know - we’ll talk about anything! -- Kathy in PA, Tue, May 31 2022, 18:24:51

[> I'm from Michigan, and we have had frustrating weather...we have one more night forcast for the 40's. I will be getting my planting done next weekend. My favorite flower is the dandelion, but everyone says I'm weird..... -- Janet, Tue, May 31 2022, 10:58:28

[> [> They have so many pretty phases! And I do try to eat some of the greens when they first come out. These cold nights have been weird. After losing them to frost on Mothers Day years ago, I never put out annuals until after Memorial Day. Except pansies, which I love too. About 64 years ago at the Mother Daughter Tea at the church, the favor was an individual pansy plant and I’ve loved them ever since. -- Kathy in PA, Tue, May 31 2022, 12:23:04
