If you had said U2, I'd have been all over you! My most hated album of all time was Joshua Tree. I almost dumped my fiance because he listened to it:-).
REM (Stand in the place that you are, now face right??) Deep! :-)
The Pixies were good, but certainly not in the greatest band ever category. Though I do really like "Here comes your Man".
Concrete Blonde only had one good album, and it wasn't good enough to put it in my greatest band ever category.
The Police never really did it for me--I preferred the Weird Al Yankovic versions of their songs.
The Beatles--most commercial popstars ever. I don't mind their music, but its really fluff for the most part. Though the White Album was cool.
My top contenders would be
Led Zeppelin--4 was the first album I ever owned, and it changed the course of my life. For better or worse:-),
Pink Floyd--Still gives me chills even though I've listened to every album hundreds of times.
Rolling Stones--Because of their longevity, and their ability to change with the times (though Tatoo You sounds SO dated now!))
Sex Pistols (They changed the face and future of music more than any other band I can think of).
The Doors--music that stands on its own nearly 4 decades after the band first formed
On a different but related note, right now my Dh is listening to Black Sabbath's Master of Reality. We haven't listened to Black Sabbath in quite a long time and sitting here listening to "Lord of this World" and "After Forever", I'm realizing that it sounds like a Christian rock album! How come I didn't get that when I was a kid--I thought he was being sarcastic! Why call yourself Black Sabbath if you are going to write songs that sound like Amy Grant could have sung them?
